Hobby Room/Workbench questions
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to AMT4EVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My vision is not has good as it use to be so I have one of those lights with a magnifier glass....It has allowed me to keep building in the 1:24 and 1:25 scale like when I was young. I like the peg board idea I've always wanted a way to have my favorite items "tools" easy to find and use....Still after endless try's with trays, drawers, boxes and organizers....what ever tool you need ends cleverly disguised as itself at the bottom just out of view...or "Fallen of the edge of the floor"....Murphy's law I guess. One of the "Builders" Suggested organizing your spare in "Like Groups" in containers such as all wheel and tiers together, all clear plastic and transparent red together...Engine parts. chassis stuff. ect..... Great idea....I need to do that one of these days. -
I think your engine looks great...maybe building a cool muscle car from 1970 is just the thing, some how your pal will be right there with you...I will be looking forward to see the love you guys put in to this one...I built the 70 chevelle it was the old Monogram kit 1:24 scale molded in blue with the 454....I bought it at an antique store my wife and I went to...Best antiquing trip yet...the kit was rough windows scratched, Chrome not so great. I did my best to make it look right....It was a joy to build. I think these car are Kindred spirits both being GM products...You can see my Chevy in the General Topics the one about Muscle Cars. Enjoy your "Build"

You have built a really keen Yellow Ford....Some of my Pals are Car Guys and Hot Rod Builders....We got on the topic of Rear Ends....The '57 Ford "Smooth Back". Was mentioned by my Pal Russ Roth...I can't remember the details.

I like your Chevy...I think you captured the Low Rider Vibe really well... -
I have had something like this...on my mind for a while...I like your build a lot...The plates and road signs are just right..In fact I think everything you did on this one is "Right On"

I like your diorama. I also like the "Rustic look" you gave the car...

Detailing vs Disability
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Carl you are a talented Builder and a really neat guy...You always find the good in everybody and have something nice to say about their work. I think the things to remember are "Be thankful for what you have while you have it" also "Be a Fluid Warrior Adapt and Overcome".... I really like this one "Building Model Cars this is Art not a Competition, Building should bring joy to the Builder as well the people beholding it" Your Cars will always make me happy with or with out the trim. Because of time my hands are not as study, my eyes are not as good...I have adjusted my building to more of a "Rugged Look"...You can give 'em a shave and a hair cut...Sometimes this brings out the natural lines and you get a better look..I have just a few more words for you to remember.."In nature things are never perfect revel in the imperfections"..."Looks arn't everything"..."Some times trim is stainless steel...Metalic paint will Buff". Be of Good Cher. -
'64 Riviera winner
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to Baugher Garage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for ..posting the pics. Mike...I enjoyed looking....Some how I think this body style of the Riviera evokes a lot of emotion from GM guys...For me it is the "Boat Tail" and the "Styling Queues" that carried over to the 'Vette. I like looking at "Kustoms" and man what a "Yellow Paint Job"....I am a little more "Old School" so for me the "Jury is still out"....Fascinating how the rear end of a car can effect a guy. -
A Recap of Most of My Older Builds
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in Model Cars
The link worked. Fun looking at your builds, Love the "Kustom" stuff...Nice paint jobs, And the Woody's are "Really Keen". -
So I got the windows put in the 66 GTO...I Painted the area around the tail lights silver and back deck area between the tail lights Flat Black....I'm building these 2 to please myself. I hope these slight mods will be enough to go with a "No Door Handles" shave....Comments welcome. I did some ageing on the bumpers...and grill, did a little work on the fire wall and put the radiator on....Next I am going to put up a head liner using "Funny Fur"...The Sun Visors are flat black. I think I might use the Garnet flocking, I used on the carpet and interior back or flat black...Again comments welcome.

Unbilt kits
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to alangarber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With all it potential for problems, Vintage plastic is fun...A lot of these troubles can be addressed...Warping of bodies and chassis can be corrected with 2 dish pans one with warm/hot water and one with cold water...Submerge the part in the hot water let the plastic warm, reform it back to original position, hold it that shape and submerge it in the cold water to set it. Clear plastic parts can be polished with a micro polish kit...I have had good results using buffing metalize paint "Stainless or Aluminum plate" duplicate Chrome pretty well. Remove plating and prime first. I am a Wheel/Tire swap guy...You end up with a lot of these Look for AMT 3 in one style kits...Normally they are good to give extras. -
what color dominates your builds?
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks like a lot of my cars are blue. I like hot colors orange, reds, yellow....Sometimes the color just comes to you while your building the car. My older brother had opinions about the color of cars...He said that there are exceptions to every rule...He felt that Green was not a good color for a "Race Car"....I pressed him on this, and found that it was opinion passed down from Dad....My brother and I agreed that there are a lot of really cool green cars....and maybe it was just a Marv Tannehill thing. Over the years many of my Pals said that their Dads told them that "Green Race Cars are Bad Luck"....Has Anybody else heard this? -
definition of a rat rod
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to retroguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From the pics they look like art work....I guess I am glad they exist, I have had this idea of building one from all the "Good Junk" parts from the "Bone Yard"...I like the idea of using old license plate decals for a door panel....Still trying to develop a concept...Maybe a pick up truck... -
Definition of muscle car.
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to om617's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was "kid'n around" when I suggested calling 'em all Hot Rods....In 1955 Chevy coined the phrase "The Hot One"...Then in 57 the 283 came out and the phrase became "The Hot One Just Got Hotter." And that was the "One to have."....Small Block Chevy's ended up going into a lot of really fast Hot Rods. Gregory Thanks for posting the Pics. of the motors...I think in its most strict definition the 64 GTO was one of the first "Muscle Cars"....But the 57 Chevy was sure a "Hot" car...And then the "Legendary 61 SS with a 409"....I guess my point is like the term "Hot Rod" has strict interpretation...In our "Hearts and Minds" the term is "Ever Expanding" to include all the cars we love....Maybe the same can be said for "Muscle Cars".....Still I think a top 20 list would be fun. -
