I know what you mean. I've been having a few issues with my '67 Bonneville project going together as well. I did plenty of test fitting in the beginning and as I went along with the build, but it seems like no matter what I do, I always seem to have some fit issues when it comes down to final assembly. I'll work through them, but it sure can be aggravating! Steve

I suppose I could add these. A 1968 Charger 440 that I used in a '69 Coronet. A 1962 Pontiac 421 that I dropped into a '63 Bonneville. And a slightly modified '66 GTO engine that's going into my current '67 Bonneville project. Steve

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, I still do most of my engine & chassis parts this way, occasionally mixing in a few lacquers. This 440 was painted with a custom mix of flat Testors paints & clear coated with Testors lacquer. The black parts were done the same way except I used Duplicolor black primer as a base color. The metal parts were all shot with various colors from Alclad. Steve

If you're going to try enamels, my personal recommendation would be to use flat Testors enamels. I used to do it this way with pretty fair results. You can mix your own colors & thin it with lacquer thinner for faster curing times & then use one of the Testors Lacquer clear coats to make it shine. Flat paints will lay down much nicer & dry faster giving you less chance of orange peel, runs & sags. It works pretty well to do it this way. After the clear is applied, let it cure for a few days & then polish & you can achieve a pretty nice paint job with little fuss. This 1953 Ford was painted using this technique. Steve

You probably don't want my recommendations for just starting out & you want to be frugal. I'm anything but frugal with my paint, using upwards of a dozen coats of primer, paint & clear on my bodies. Besides that, I use virtually no acrylics or enamels on my bodies in favor of lacquers, & to top it off, I usually use fairly expensive colors from sources like MCW. I use a few enamels for interior work, & even fewer acrylics, mostly for detailing on occasion. Steve

I'd buy a '71 Polara.....if it was a 2 door! Otherwise, I wouldn't spend a nickel on any of them. Some late 60s or early 70s 2 door full sized Mopars would be sweet! Steve

Brings back memories of one of my very first cars. Wasn't my idea though! My dad bought a '72 Fury sedan instead of a '71 Dodge Demon! That experience may have clouded my opinion of the Fury, but as I remember it, it was one of the worst cars I ever drove!! Nice job Grzegorz! Steve

I agree with Bill, especially on his point about advice. You're much better off seeking advice from members of a forum like this, many of whom are real "experts" rather than the self proclaimed experts that you will find floating around on the net. Steve

Personally, I think that bright greens & purples have been extremely over done in recent years, but I like this one. It looks to be a little more on the blue side, which is refreshing. If I see another bright, "day glow" green on a classic car, I seriously think I'm going to puke!!! There were so many classy, interesting, rich, purples & greens back in the '50s & '60s, that, for the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would use those gaudy modern colors on a beautiful car. There's no faster way to completely destroy a work of art than wrapping it in layers of putrid paint! Sorry, I had to vent a little. I like your color choice John! Steve

Only 2 engine options on the '69 GP. Either the 428 in the Model SJ, or the 400 in the Model J. Steve

I've never seen them on a '69 either. Either the hubcaps or the rally wheels are all I've ever seen. Mine came with the rally wheels. Steve

Very nice John! I know that it's probably too late, but if you're going to re-plate the bumpers on this kit, another good idea is to saw off the tail light bezels & have them chromed at the same time. Foiling them is a real PITA! Steve

I really like this concept! I'm not into customs at all, but this one has really piqued my interest. I'll definitely be interested in watching! My only suggestion........please stay away from the giant chrome wheels, & for God's sake, no bright greens or purples!! It's been done to death!! Steve

Paint it black, put a landau bar on it & some graphics & you have a sweet custom hearse! Steve

I bought this kit sometime back & after a little messing around, I found that the glass from the AMT '62 Belair kit was probably the best fit. But don't expect it to drop right in! The castings on Flintstone's stuff is pretty thick & it took me quite a bit of careful grinding with a Dremel tool to get the glass to seat anywhere close to where it needs to be. While the castings are very nice & blemish free, expect to spend some time with the Dremel to get things to fit correctly. Steve

That's the way it goes dude. Until someone decides to revisit some of these old kits, you're going to have to pay whatever the market demands. If you think that a Johan '69 Road Runner is expensive, try scoring an MPC '68 Coronet! nobody is going to offer you a kit that's worth $80.00 for a ten spot. You have to pay to play in some instances. Steve

To be honest, my state is supposedly most famous for being the land of 10,000 lakes, & yes, my guess would be that there are that many. More realistically, if you live here, it's probably more well known for it's horrendously cold winters, oppressively hot, humid summers, & kajillions of blood thirsty mosquitoes! And yes, there are plenty of turkeys here as well. How else could we have elected people like Jesse Ventura & Al Franken! Jees! Come to think of it, I'm not exactly sure why I still live here!! I don't believe that I ever said anything about wrong or right. I wonder how many of us realize how many posts are submitted here on a daily basis. Couple that with your job, your family & everything else with daily life & then tell me how much time you want to dedicate to every whiny, petty gripe that pops up on a model building forum. It seems to me that people only get pissy about this sort of thing when they think they won't get as much "air time" in the "1:1 car reference pictures" section as they would in the "general" section. Boo-hoo! I do my best to post in appropriate sections, but if the moderators feel it belongs somewhere else......move it, or don't, I don't much care. My psyche is not that delicate that I feel that I need to raise a fuss because somebody might not get to read my valuable post. Steve
