  1. Couldn't have said it better. Yeah......What he said! Steve
  2. Yes, I agree with you there. But my guess is if they don't do a stock version rather quickly, I guarantee you that you will see a ton of "how can I build this stock" questions, or possibly some resin casters jumping into the void quite soon. Steve
  3. Depends a lot on what type of clear you're using. I use nearly nothing but Duplicolor clear in a spray can & routinely use 5 coats. I don't have issues with burying trim until you go beyond that. I use as many as 5 coats of primer, usually 3 or 4 color coats & up to 5 clear coats. Still not a problem. Steve
  4. I don't have any problem with anyone producing whatever they want. My only point was that every time I see a "closeout" table somewhere, it's covered with NASCAR kits. I'm not sure who's selling out of them, but I don't think you would have much problem finding nearly any NASCAR kit produced. Steve
  5. agreed. I'm a little surprised that anyone would start a new venture with NASCAR kits. You just about can't give them away any place that they're sold. Something older like this might garner a little more interest, but my guess is that a factory stock version would way outsell it. Steve
  6. Ditto. I use as much as 4 or 5 coats of clear before polishing. Better safe than sorry. Steve
  7. Ditto. If I thin it at all, it's very slightly. If I may make a suggestion to the OP, nix on the flocking. Embossing powder will give you a much more realistic looking carpet. It's relatively easy to touch up thin spots as well. Dab a little more glue on the thin spot & shake some more powder over the top. Fixed! Steve
  8. Then you have also read the follow up to the first article stating that the sea level rise on those islands has been twice as much as the rest of the world. Hmm, funny......how could that be? Well, of course the author still attributes it partially to global warming, but there are other factors a well. Just another example of how everything depends on what you read, & how you "choose" to interpret it. I'm never going to convince you Bill that your position is incorrect, just as you will not convince me that mine is wrong. I know that the climate change believers like to belittle those who are skeptical by insinuating that we are all a bunch of pea brained, knuckle dragging troglodytes, but that's ok with me. When the planet spirals into Al Gore's vision of an un-inhabitable toaster oven with boiling seas, then I will admit I was wrong. Until then, I will not lose even one wink of sleep over the issue. Steve
  9. We're basing all of this hysteria on what has happened in the past 50 or so years. A tiny blink of an eye in historical terms. I concede that there were probably some changes in the climate over the past 100 years. & there were most definitely changes in the 100 years before that, & the 100 before that, & there will absolutely be changes in the next 100, but to get the entire population of the planet all worked up over something that we have no control over & cannot change is ridiculous in my mind. Governments all over the world are clamoring to "save our planet" & all of the "fixes" require us, the little guy, to give up our freedoms & our money. They like to claim that they can "fix" our climate issues if we just offer up our lives for them to control. Really? This coming from the same people who can't even come close to figuring out how to fix the more relevant & immediate issues that face all of us today? Bullocks!! Steve
  10. I got that information from one of the other Nasa videos posted on the same page that "afx" posted. Question for anyone who lives on the coast. Anybody seen these "rising sea levels? I can never understand how people can voice their disdain for government, claiming that they're all crooks & idiots, but when it comes to government backed researchers, they're absolute geniuses. I believe we all know where these "genius" researchers get their funding to do their research & then we believe that they're somehow supposed to be unbiased? When you have leftist governments providing funding & expecting certain outcomes in order to receive continued funding, can we really expect anything other than flawed outcomes. You can believe these researchers if you want Bill, but just because they have a PHD next to their name & are all looking for outcomes to meet their & their bosses expectations, it doesn't mean they're correct. I've seen these types of issues hyped into a frenzy before, only to turn into a big "nothing burger" down the road. I find it a little disturbing that spokespersons like Al Gore can get filthy rich selling worthless "carbon offsets" so he can fly around to his global warming conferences in private jets & live in extravagant houses & then tell me that I need to get rid of my SUV & buy an electric car because "I'm" destroying the planet. Bugger off Al Gore!! Steve
  11. And you will notice that they put much less emphasis on, & offer fairly vague explanations as to why over the same period of time, the Antarctic has accumulated a record amount of ice. "It's a bit of a mystery" they say. Hmm, couldn't be that your theory needs a little more scrutinization before you claim that we are all going to be charcoal briquettes in the next 10 years, could it? Steve
  12. Have you ever heard the phrase, "you can't believe everything you read"? That applies to "science" that has all kinds of opportunities to become corrupted as well. I know the climate change advocates like to look down their nose at people that don't necessarily agree with their science, but you have to concede that scientific "theories" are just that.....theories, & they are proven wrong & change all of the time. Seems to me, it wasn't all that long ago, the big bang theory was all but settled science..........Hmm, guess not! Steve
  13. Well, the weather sure becomes the focus of the climate change debate when it advances the advocates position! Every time a weather event happens, it's all due to global "climate change", (which had to be changed from "global warming" because it no longer adhered to the game plan) You'll never convince me that climate change is a problem, let alone whether it exists or not. As far as I'm concerned, it's just the latest hysteria that the dooms day crowd exhumes every 20 or 30 years. A few decades ago, it was the next coming ice age, followed by the freak out over the deterioration of the ozone layer, & now this. 30 years from now it will be something else. I know, call me a "climate denier", I just call them how I see them. Steve
  14. I think it would be interesting to require everyone who posts what they would like to see kitted in a thread like this, to add a poll to their post. Would you, or would you not buy one. That might actually give us a general idea what sorts of kits would be successful. It might also give me an idea as to whether or not I should basically give up on the modern kit manufacturers to produce what I would like to see & just continue to seek out vintage annuals to build. Steve
  15. I would spend $70.00 on the right kit. Hell, I sometimes spend quite a bit more than that right now on a nice vintage kit. Unfortunately, I wouldn't give a plug nickel on 90% of the ideas put forward on this thread. That's the million dollar question, isn't it? What kits would "ALL" of us, or at least most of us buy? Steve
  16. Very possible. I just stumbled across it while looking for a suitable piece for this build. I retained the basic air cleaner "body" then shaved off the straight "stumpy" original snorkel & replaced it with a scratch built one which has a slight "taper" & is angled downward like the '67 Pontiac piece. Steve
  17. Let's just say it beats the hell out of 98% of the garbage that is on the tube normally! Even my wife, who is not an old car person at all, enjoys watching these auto auction shows. Steve
  18. I watch it. I just love seeing all of those beautiful old cars. Mecum this week, Barrett Jackson next week. Steve
  19. Still plugging along slowly, but making progress. Finished the engine this afternoon. This is a combination of the Revell '66 GTO engine with added parts from an MPC '69 Firebird kit, as well as a modified air cleaner from some old annual kit. I also added a couple of better interior pics to this post after setting up the photo studio. Steve
  20. Here's a photo of the 4 ft. drift outside of my patio door. One of the shorter ones! Steve
  21. There you go! I had forgotten that Scale Motorsports had those "Elephant Hide" decals. Yes, they are very thin, but with care they will lay down better than a standard decal. Steve
  22. Winter is back in west central Minnesota! Don't know what the wind speed is, but it's obviously gusting in excess of 50 mph. A few new inches of snow along with the couple of feet that was already on the ground is translating into 5 foot drifts in my back yard! I can just barely see my neighbors house across the street from my front window through the blowing snow, but I have rescued his garbage can & most of his trash from my back yard! Temps are hovering around 4 below at the moment & dropping. I'm amused at the description of the local weather. -4 degrees & "breezy"! Steve
  23. Are you building a hardtop or a convertible? The seat inserts are different between the two. The convertible had a relatively smooth monotone insert, but the hardtop had a more deeply textured upholstery. I think painting would give a more realistic look to the hardtop inserts. Personally, I would try painting the inserts a darker shade of the overall seat color & then give them a fairly heavy black wash. That seems to be the basic look of the seats that I'm seeing. Steve
  24. Depends on the trim level. Some were equipped with backup lights, others were not. Steve
  25. Unfortunately, Johan did this with a lot of their later "USA Oldies" re-releases. There are several of the USA Oldies kits that have the wrong interiors due to lost or damaged molds Steve
