  1. Thanks alot. If you notice a spot of the hood where the paint seems to be missing. I dropped the hood when setting it up for the pics. I plan to fix it in a few days. just got alot going on right now so time isnt allowing me to take care of it.
  2. Howdy Everyone. Wow has it seemed like forever since I've had a chance to get on the site. Let alone post a project in the works.I think the last projects I had time to post was my pair of 66 novas. Anyway. This is the subject Im starting on now. Im in the process of collecting all the aftermarket stuff I want and need for it. Also bare with me time wise as the wife and I are in the process of getting ready for retirement and hitting the road late this summer in our motor-home and I still have a ton of stuff to do come this spring to get things ready for it. But its still winter up here in Northern Michigan so while I have time I hope to spend as much as I can in the hobby room working on this project. Anyways about what my plans are for this one. I plan to give it more of a late 70s early 80s style hot rod look. Mostly because I was never a big fan of oversized rims or low in the weeds builds for my projects. That being said, it will also be a 440 (not the Hemi version. Im going with a black vinyl top version and the color will be sublime green with black interior. One thing about this kit that kinda sucked, the decal sheet was damaged so I had to order a new one from Revell and you all know how long they can take to get anything in the mail to ya. I ordered them 3 weeks ago and still waiting. In the mean time I'll get started on some of the mock ups and paint work. As part of my plan for this project, it will get a custom hood. I had a leftover hood from a revell 70 cuda kit that I plan to graft into the Hemi hood of this kit to get the look I want. I also plan to use the Hemi version rear end and leafs from this kit to get the stance I want. I will be scratch making a set of headers for the 440 and modifying the duel exhausts to mate to the headers. Anyways this will give you some idea of my plan for this build. I hope to have some progress pics to post in the next day or two. So if your interested, stay tuned.
  3. Howdy everyone. Been almost a year since I've had the chance to get on the site let alone post anything. This was a project I worked on last summer and fall in between wifes health issues, camping and doing some upgrade work on our motor-home to prep it for retirement traveling. I didn't detail it to the level I normally do but I did do a little detail work, mostly in the engine bay. I used the 72 long box version and the 69 short box version of the kit combined to get the look I was after. Sorry if some of the pics are a little blurry. Thanks For Look
  4. Always loved This year. Nice conversion.
  5. great work on getting rid of all the mold seams Joe. looking forward to seeing it all cleaned up lol.
  6. Very nice conversion on your 65. I agree with Carl, your diorama shop makes for a cool background for it.
  7. Hey there Joe. Surprise! Bet ya been wondering if Id ever get in here to check your build out. It's been a busy winter and spring around here. The wife and I are planing to hit the road and travel for a few years starting next summer after she retires, So we've been spending a lot of time trying to get years of household accumulation taken care of, That and getting all the odds and ends issues with our motor-home taken care of, after all its going to be our home on wheels for awhile. We may even come visit you when we finally hit the road. Sorry to here about you wife's issues, but glad she's doing better. My wife's cancer is now in remission and she is doing a lot better also. I spent the past few hours going through your entire build thread. I'm extremely impressed with the quality of your detailing buddy. I will do my best to keep up with you here. Sincerely Jim
  8. Good Morning and thanks for all the nice comments guys. It was a fun build. Took me most of the winter to build. It's my first truck build in many years. I hope to find time soon to get another project started this summer once all the honey do lists are out of the way and I get my hobby room cleaned up.
  9. Here is the last set of pics mostly chassis. Wish i would have taken the time to sand down the tire mold lines. Oh well. Thats pretty much it for the pics. Thanks for taking the time to look everyone.
  10. Here is the next set of pics. Just wanted to let you all know, sorry for the lack of interior pics. The top isnt removable so I cant take alot of detailed pic s of interior. One last post of pics coming.
  11. It's been awhile since I've had time to get on the site especially with all the personal spring projects I've had to get done. This is a project I worked on through the winter and just got completed a few weeks ago. I didn't take the time to document all the mods and details that went into it. And normally I would have done a workbench post, but I just didn't have the time this past winter to do my normal workbench posting. But I thought I would at least post it here in the under glass area. I did this Blazer project to be kinda what junior would have done with it back in the 80's after pop handed it down to him. Starting with the AMT reissue 72 K5 Blazer Kit. I combined it with a few parts from the Revell snowplow pickup kit. Also modified the front and rear seats from a revell 69 camaro convertible kit to give the interior the kind of customization junior would have wanted in his ride. I didn't want a full blown custom, just the kind of changes a just out of high school young man would have taken the summer to do. I modified the front bumper to add the correct turn signals by splicing in the turn signals from a left over 66 nova bumper. The exhaust is scratch made from aluminum tubing from the Local Hobby Store and aftermarket cherry bomb style mufflers. Normally I would fully detail the chassis with fuel and brake lines, but elected to go the simple route on this build. But I did take the time to add working front steering. I scratch made a radiator and fan shroud. and also modified the kit supplied heater core to give a a more proportional look. I also added some mild under the hood detailing. I've never been great at getting a black paint job to turn out very well. But this one didn't turn out to bad. I did adjust the height of the suspension. The stock suspension sat way to high for juniors taste so it was lowered and modified to give it a raised but not the high in the sky look it had with the kit suspension. Anyways It will take me a few posts here to get all the pics up. Thanks got looking everyone. More pics in next post.
  12. Nice turn out Joe. I like the end result. Might have been 10 months in the making, but well worth the effort. I was going to call you the other day, but lost your number. Jim
  13. Thanks a bunch Dave, all seems to be right with the posts again. Happy camper here.
  14. I was just wondering what is going on with the edit function on our posts. It seems that after posting, within a short period of time the edit function disappears. It does it at random periods from just a few hours of a post or reply to even a few days. This started about a week ago for me. I'm sure there are others that are having this same issue. Has anyone reported it? And if so is it being looked into?
  15. I just checked my posts in the cars workbench and underglass section and have the same issue. Looks like its across the the site. I checked a few other posts in other sections and no edit button for me anywhere. Hope they get it fixed.
  16. I picked up one of these kits the other day. I had so many builds going on that I didnt take the time to get one when they were first reissued. It's a great kit for it's age. One thing I noticed that I havent seen anyone talk about yet... I thought it was a little odd that none of the original or reissues of this kit ever came with the turn signals in the front bumper. The bumper would be right for the GMC Jimmy but not the Blazer. I plan to do something about that problem for my build. I'll cut out the correct locations for them in the bumper and then graft in some turn signals that i will cut out of a left over 66 chevy nova bumper. Might not be 100% accurate, but should be better than none at all, that and I wont have to try to make a bumper from the amt chevy truck kit fit lol.
  17. Here are a few pics of Both Nova Builds Together. Thanks For Looking Guys
  18. Finally got this one finished. It was the second of a two part build. The first part was a replica stock 66 nova ss I called Pop's Toy. I wanted to do something a little different with this one. I wanted a stock looking grocery getter with a attitude. So I built it with a beefed up 283 mouse motor backed up with a 350 turbo automatic trans, give it four wheel power boosted disc brakes, modified the front suspension with tubular A arms and rack-n-pinion steering, and to put the power to the ground, it got a late 60's corvette rear suspension. The body is one I ordered from Bandit Resins. I'm posting quite a few pics so it will take a bit to get them all up. The last few sets with be of Both the SS and the Wagon reunited now that both builds are complete. Here is a link to the build for the Wagon.. Mom's Toy (66 Wagon workbench build) Pop"s Toy (66 Nova SS Workbench Build) Next set of Pics will be of both the SS and Wagon together.
  19. Hey thanks a lot for the kind words guys.I finally got Mom's Toy finished this past week. I will try to get it posted in the under glass section of the site later this evening. Tomorrow morning at the latest.
  20. Mine is a 10x12 room the wife and I built in my garage. It's insulate and heated using a electric heater that works great. I built two work stations using counter tops bought at Menard's as well as some unfinished cabinets that we painted and installed for hobby supply storage. The floor used to look pretty good, but wear and tear has taken it's toll. We plan to redo the floor in the spring. I still need to build a spray booth yet as well, For now I use a large cardboard box I keep outside the entry door in the main garage. This is my secondary workbench The tall cabinet is were I store a few of my unbuilt models. The heater you see heats the entire room. Even when it got below zero last winter it kept the room right around 70 degrees. This is my primary work station where I do most of my work and where eventually I plan to add a spray booth. This section I call my wifes corner where she hangs out when she comes out to see what I'm working on. It is the area of the room directly opposite my main work station. And yes those are batteries in the corner. They belong to our motorhome. It's where I store them for the winter months. The brown dresser houses my scratch building plastics and a few hobby tools as well as a drawer I use for my extra pieces and parts. The file cabinet is where I keep all my spare rags as well as thinners. The upper cabinet houses parts kits as well as extra odds and ends supplies. The room is a work in progress and is always being added onto as I need more storage for the hobby.
  21. Mom's Toy (66 nova wagon) is almost done. I got the rest of the photo-etched script on it this morning. I also got the windshield wipers and door handles cleaned up and painted gloss black, I just got to shoot them with some Alclad Chrome and then install them. Then a couple of odds and ends in the engine bay and the license plates and side view mirror and she will finally be complete. Here are a few final pics before I finish it up. Thanks for looking everyone.
  22. Got the rest of the exhaust completed on the wagon chassis today. That pretty much wraps up the chassis work so now maybe I can keep it on all fours while I work on the rest of the model LOL. Thanks for looking and as always, comments always welcome. More coming as I get it done.
  23. Your interior is really looking nice Geoff. Been a while since I was on the site to check out your updates, but glade I got the chance to check out your progress. Nice work all around buddy.
  24. Hey thanks a lot guys. Got a little bit more done on Mom's Toy (66 nova wagon) this weekend. I decided to add the chrome side molding to the wagon after all. Instead of using BMF I elected to go with the photo-etched molding provided with the 66 nova script kit from the Model Car Garage. I had to modify it a little since the body is a 4 door. but that didn't take much work. I just cut the piece that would have went on the rear quarter panel to fit on the doors area and then used the section that was intended for the SS door on the rear quarter panel. It worked out just fine.I glued it in place using Testors Clear gloss Lacquer carefully brushed onto the area of the body, and then placed the script on and let it dry. Still got the passenger side to do yet though. I also mounted the rear bumper and tail lights and the tailgate molding from the photo-etched kit. The tailgate trim did have to be shortened up a little to fit right, but that too did not take a lot of work. I just trimmed the ends of it off with photo-etched cutters and saved the end pieces, then shortened the tailgate piece up and, using CA glue on a toothpick, I re-attached the end pieces and then attached the hole thing to the tailgate. The tail lights were then detail painted with Tamiya clear red for the stop lights and Testors Perl white for the back up lights. I scratch made new rocker panel chrome trim using evergreen plastic strips covered with MBF, since the kit supplied rocker chrome pieces were made for the SS version. I still have more work to do, including completing the exhaust system and lots more exterior bits and pieces to add, as well as a few odds and ends in the engine bay. But I think it's starting to look like I envisioned it when I started it. I'll post more when I get more done. Thanks for looking and as always, comments always welcome.
