  1. Hi Ron. The carb, for the most part is all aluminum, I did paint the top of the bowl area lite titanium gold to simulate the bowl ring where the air filter housing sits, I suppose I could have painted that area a flat gunmetal to simulate a ring gasket that some had, but it just highlighted the detail better in gold. but other that that the only other area I used a little highlight color was on the butterfly over the front 2 barrels (which was usually brass anyway), the linkage, and on the little nub caps on the front and back of the carb all of which was done in metalizer brass.
  2. Nice work on polishing out the glass Geoff.
  3. Evening guys, if your wondering why no updates today.... WEEELLLLLLL...... I had the engine almost completely detailed then realized I forgot to cement the front engine cover in place. You can see the gap in the front cover in the pics I posted last night. Apparently when I had test fitted it, I got distracted with something else and when I got back to it, it was fitting so tightly, I thought I had already glued it on... Boy was I wrong and when I found out today, I already had it almost completely detail. Had to take a bunch of stuff off, glue down the front cover and then redo a bunch of detailing lol. But I saved it. Once I finish up the last of the detailing on the engine, I'll post some more pics.. Hopefully tomorrw evening. Tomorrow I have to go with the wife for her maintenance Chemo treatment. It usually takes most of the day, so wont be back in the hobby room till late afternoon or evening.
  4. Been there done that myself a time or two Joe. But I know you'll get it looking like it should.
  5. ok as promised. Here is a few pics of the engine detail work that I have done as of tonight. I hope to get the majority of the engine detailing done by tomorrow or at least before the weekend. Sorry some if the pics may be slightly blurry, I didn't have my camera on it's tri-pod tonight. The small black line that is hanging near the distributor base is for the vacuum advance when I get that far. The blue line is the manual choke cable. The large black line on the back of the manifold is the vacuum line for the brake booster. and the two small black lines you see off the linkage is the throttle cable and passing gear kick down cable. It will all make sense in the car. I still got tons more detail work to do in the engine yet.. More to come as I get it done. Thanks for stopping by.
  6. finally got started on the engine detail work late last night and most of today. Still got a lot more detail work on the engine to do, but it's coming along. I'll post pics of the progress so far, later this evening.
  7. Well done on the BMF work Geoff. Your build is really coming along nicely. I really like how cleanly everything is turning out, especially the interior and engine.
  8. Great start. Nice color choice
  9. Welcome Eric, Northern Mi here. Up just north of Traverse City. By Shanty Creek Schuss Mountain. Happy modeling. Lots of great people on here.
  10. really nice but would love to see some chassis pics of all the mods you did.
  11. Nice work
  12. Nice work
  13. Nice work. It looks to me like the center section of the real car's grill also slants in at the bottom in the center just a little bit. So it looks like revell got it right. I had this kit when it first came out years ago and always thought it was a well done kit by revell.
  14. Love the color. Looking forward to following along on your build.
  15. Vinyl top and BMF work completed on the dart last night and this morning. I also drilled out the gas tank cap and replaced it with a scratched made one I made from evergreen sheet plastic I punched out with a hole punch and BMF covered it and added a small strip of plastic painted semi-gloss black to make the raised area. Then epoxied it into the hole I drilled out for it on the body. For now the body is ready to go other than the glass and photo-etched script I will add when I get closer to final assembly. The vinyl on the top will lay down even tighter over time. My hobby room is pretty warm, which is good for the top material as it sits it tends to suck down. That and I do re-brandish it with a cotton cloth every so often as well, especially the seam areas. More as I get it done. Thanks for looking
  16. It turned out really cool Pat.
  17. I built one of these years ago when they first came out. I didnt have a single issue building the kit and as a matter of fact I detailed it out quite a bit and it was a dream to build. I dont remember any version of this kit being a vinyl top version. At least the first release one I had didnt. But there may have been something after it. But I got out of the hobby in the mid 90s for a while.
  18. The wing might not rust, but the paint sure would peel off em.
  19. nice looking forward to seeing the chassis come together
  20. Nice I always loved the duster. yours turned out really nice.
  21. Very nice build. Really love that era of police cars.
  22. It is finicky and yes self adhesive. Its more of a true vinyl and that's why I like using it. Have fun with the spring break stuff. I'll be working on the dart and a if I get time have to put a new set of shocks on the third axle of my ole class A motor-home. We got a lot to do to it this spring to get it ready for travel. That and we got to get the house ready to sell before hitting the road hopefully by july.
  23. Thanks TIm I did just get done getting the vinyl top done. The materiel from the model car garage is a little difficult to peel from its backing, but working slow and steady with it does get it off. Also it cuts about as easy as BMF when trimming off the excess, which is nice. On this one, I got one side of the center just a too wide on the overlap in the front driver side. But Im gonna live with it. I would have to rework a whole new center piece to fix it since if you try to peel it off and reuse it, it wont brandish all the new wrinkles out of it. I try to post more pics of it later, but I want to start working on some BMF work with it first.
  24. Thanks James and yes I used model masters air brush bottle Lacquer thinned with good ole fashioned hardware store lacquer thinner thinned 50/50. It did apply a coat of Tamiya TS13 clear over the model masters clear that I decanted into a container and shot through the air brush after the model masters clear dried. I did that because the Tamiya dries just a little bit harder and is a little easier to wet sand the flaws out of.
  25. Got the body wet sanded and polished out this weekend and the hood this morning. The hood was a little bit of a pain wet sanding especially with all the contours in it. But With a little patience I got it done. After creating molding for the vinyl top from evergreen plastic strips, I masked off the body and painted the whole top Tamiya Semi-gloss black. when that dried, I masked off the side areas of the top and gave the center area of the top a few more coats of semi-gloss black. Doing it like this creates guide lines for the Vinyl Top material I will be applying that I ordered from the Model Car Garage and the Vinyl Top material sticks down better to Tamiya's semi-gloss based paints. Its good stuff and looks better than a painted top when it goes on right but can be a bear to work with. Here is a few pics of the body wet sanded and polished.... Can you say Shiny LMAO I'LL post more as I get things done. The grill is just mocked into place for the pics. I hope to start working on getting the top done and then some BMF applied today and tomorrow. Thanks for looking guys.
