  6. Look what I got in the mail this morning. Holly double pumper from Fireball Modelworks. I got his carter carb that I originally was gonna use on the darts 440 power plant, but I think a little performance upgrade is in order. And after cutting it off the block with as closely as I could with a xacto saw blade and then sanding down the remainder of what the blade wouldnt get without messing it up, here it is paint detailed and waiting to go in the 440 intake. Some fuel and vacuum lines and linkage rods and she'll look nice on the engine.
  7. Harry I didnt know about everything your dealing with until I saw this thread today. Im so sorry to hear of all the things your dealing with. I want you to know that I can totally relate with you. My wife got diagnose 3 years ago with Splenic marginal zone lymphoma. Hers is not curable and is in her bone marrow. She had to go through 8 weeks of chemo treatments to start with and then went through 6 months of maintenance treatments after that. Then this past august her spleen re-enlarged and she had to go through it all over again. She is currently back on maintenance treatments and for now the doctor wants her on them every 3 months until further notice. When she started back on the Chemo this past August she had a major reaction to the Chemo and they had to bring in the crash cart because it was so bad. They used almost everything there was on the crash cart except the epee-pen and that would have been next had they not finally got her stable. She is doing fine now but we worry everyday with not knowing when her condition will take a turn for the worse. I told her about you as Im sitting here and both her and I send you our best wishes. If it weren't for me being with her, she too would be alone. All her family live a long way away and there is no one local that could be here to help her if it were needed. We also know how hard it is to get the insurance to help. When we were going through the diagnosis process the insurance we have wouldn't cover most of it so we had to pay most of it out of pocket. The hospital that did most of the testing, so far has been great. Even though we owe them alot of money they are allowing us to make small payments. The Lymphoma Society is covering a good part of her Chemo treatments because her insurance will only pay part of it. She is planning on applying for SSD this spring and we have talked to a lawyer who is willing to help us and will only get paid when and if we win. Though he seems to think that wont be a problem. The up side to all this for us, is that she is strong and handles her treatments fairly well. The Chemo does weaken her immune system so she gets sick with colds and things more easily and we have to be careful about that. But thankfully her heart is strong. We wish you all the very best Harry. I wish we were closer to you cuz if we were I would gladly come by and help in any way I could. I live in Northern Michigan but that's still just too far to be much help to you. You should not have to go through this alone not even for a day, thats the thing that bothers most of us here on the site the most I think. We know that you spend most of your days alone dealing with this and you should never have to do that. Keep your spirits up as best you can Harry and remember as long as you have breath the fight goes on. Its a hard fight but every morning you wake up is another day the good lord has given you.   8. Hi Tony, The best way to handle orange peel is to wet sand it out with a good polishing system. I use micro mesh sanding films starting at 3200 then 3600, 4000,6000, then 8000. then a polish and wax. You can get the sanding pads at most hobby stores. Orange peel is not all that uncommon and can be smoothed out but be gentled when wet sanding so you dont sand completely through the clear coat. I also do not apply BMF to my models before clear coating for just that reason. If I end up needing to wet sand out any orange peel it is really easy to end up sanding through to the BMF and ruining it. So I wait to apply Bare Metal Foil till after I have my paint and clear coats completely smooth and finished out. Hope this helps. And dont panic. Orange peel is a lot more common than you think. And like Snake said add a few extra coats of clear before starting the process.
  9. Steve I was a IT tech from 1987 until just 2 years ago when I retired. I started out with Chrysler many years ago when they were working to convert they're plants over to automated systems and eventually went out on my own working around the mid-west building servers and setting up networks for small and mid sized businesses. I too was Microsoft A+ certified as well as Sun Microsystems Certified. I worked with Microsoft Windows Server edition as well as Unix and several versions of Linux both server and desktop editions. I currently even have my sons home computer setup running Linux. I've also set up and ran my own social media websites on my own servers running Apache server with php and java scripting. So I am very well aware of how running a site like this works. I also know that with so many people on the site using so many different platforms that there are times when the site software script and the users browsers can have compatibility issues. But the site scripting software itself can also be the cause of some users issues. I know when I ran my sites I was always updating the server software as well as the scripting software to keep up with security issues and patches. Not all of those updates played nice with my users systems all the time. And I also know It wasnt fair for me to always blame it on my users computers everytime several of them had issues with my site after I did updates to my servers. Especially when so many of them ran different OS's and browsers. For the most part even the most recent java script version is backward compatible. You should know that. So just because a user is using a older java script version doesnt mean if they are having a issue on a site that is java script based that their system is the culprit that they should rush to update it. You and I we know enough to keep it updated. But I leaned along time ago most home users are slow at updates on their computers. I also know that keeping the system and the browser cache cleaned out is one of the first things to do when a user is having a issue with a site. But not all users do or will. And it is not always the answer for the issues a user may be having on a site. Sometimes a Server side update causes a compatibility issue between the server side script and different users browsers. The easy answer would be to inform the user of the site updates and ask them to update their user side java script or browser software. But their were times on my own sites, where if the server side updates caused enough wide spread user issues, the only real solution was to roll back the server updates. Sometimes those updates created more problems than they solved. Now for the issue at hand concerning the 404 error. I have had the issue off and on myself the past few days. And thats even after cleaning up my system and web browser and applying all the current updates for the system OS the browsers I use as well as the java end user script. So it is still a possibility that the issue is site server side. And no that does not mean that everyone would experience the problem if it were server side. Anyways just my two cents worth.

  15. This morning after letting everything cure over night I assembled all the pieces and parts onto the chassis. The next few set of pics are the result of how everything came together. One more set of pics below.
  16. Next I painted the entire shock assemblies with Tamiya yellow. Once dry I masked off the bottom of the shocks and painted the tops with model master light blue metallic. Once that dried I masked off the entire shocks and painted the shock mounts Tamiya semi-gloss black. Then I set the shock assemblies aside to cure over night. Then I moved on to detailing the rear end. I painted the rear end cover with metalizer aluminum plate and buffed it out. Once cured I glued it to the rear end. I then made e-brke pull arms from evergreen strip plastic with holes drilled in them and attached them to the inner areas of the wheel stops on the axle and then painted them metalizer brass. I made a brake T fitting out of thick evergreen plastic strip With holes drilled on three sides and then cut and shaped it into a T. I then used soft craft bead wire shaped to the rear end housing and added to the tee. I drilled holes on the back side of each wheel stop and glued the craft wire into it. This completed the axle brake lines. I then wrapped some more copper wire around piano wire to form pull cables and slid the cables on some more soft craft bead wire. These were CA glued to e-brake pull arms I added earlier. the rear end assembly was then set aside to cure over night.
  17. I love Model Master Metalizer paints especially the buffing metalizers. I have used them alot over the years since they first hit the hobby store shelves. The nice thing about them is they air brush right out of the bottles without thinning and I have never needed to prime a part first before applying them. And if applied right, they wont rub off over time. I applied buffing metalizer stainless steel and then let it dry for 10 minutes and buffed it out. I let it cure for a hour and then without even masking off the rest of the exhaust I applied burnt metal buffing metalizer on the mufflers. I let it dry for 10 minutes and then buffed the whole exhaust again. Once it cured for another hour I applied a mist coat of burnt metal near the area of the exhaust where the headers attache and also near the exhaust tail pipe tips and then buffed the whole exhaust out again. Then set the exhaust aside to cure over night.
  18. I finished the basic chassis work by adding the final brake line brackets and adding a rubber brake line hose that will tie into the rear housing brake lines later. I then made the e-brake pull cable. For the cable itself I used silver craft thread and for the pull spring, I made 2 brackets out of evergreen I-beam that was cut shaped and drilled. one bracket was painted black and glued to the chassis just in front of the rear frame and one was primed and glued to the rear frame rail. Then a piece of copper wire was wrapped around a piano wire to make a spring and then slid off the piano wire and onto a piece of soft craft bead wire and a small strip of evergreen strip plastic was cut and drilled and added to the end of the spring. This assembly was CA glued to the black bracket and a small piece of evergreen plastic tube was glued to the other side of the bracket and painted aluminum. A piece of silver craft thread was CA glued into the tube and a small hole drilled in the front frame rail and the thread was pulled through that and CA glued and painted light gun metal. Lastly the rear bumper brackets were reattached to the chassis.

  20. Im getting the 404 error today too when I try to post updates to my workbench thread. I have tred 2 times now in the past couple of hours and get a 404 -page cant be found error. Hope you guys get this figured out. This is the first time having this issue on the site for me.
  21. The line clamps are just pieces cut and bent from left over photo-etched trees and clued in place with CA glue.

  24. Nice work on manifolds Joe. I know what ya mean about pics not doing a project justice. Also you like that you figured out the hole in the oil pan. I do it the same way except mix the super glue with a little baking soda. It helps it dry even faster and makes it really easy to sand out. I got the same oil filter decals. Really nice decals and they go along way. So Im assuming your using the engine out of the AMT? You might have checked out the engine from the monogram 1/24th scale chevelle. Bet it would have matched up nicely scale wise. Just something to think about. Keep the progress posts coming my friend. Really enjoying watching it come together.
