  1. It's an old modeling trick, and some may find it a little gross, but it works to get a leather/vinyl sheen on enamel paint: Towards the end of the day, take your index finger and run it over the sides of your nose, and across the bridge, where the skin gets the oiliest, then rub that finger over the surfaces that you want to take on a vinyl sheen. It will add a dull shine to flat paints, and dull out gloss paint to just about the right finish. I've always been happy with the final result.
  2. Classy! That's a lot of rubber for that little motor to spin, but it looks great.
  3. I'm raising the bed floor a bit more than I intend to channel the chassis so that I have room to install hydraulic cylinders above the spring pockets, and for clearance for the rear axle "pumpkin" at full drop. A straight guideline for trimming the sides was made by laying the masking tape edge at the appropriate height, misting a light coat of paint over the surface, and peeling the tape. As you can see, one side has been trimmed, and one is yet to be cut.
  4. Thanks. I think swapping out the front tires for a pair from the Revell Tuner series Integra helped a whole lot - and they fit like they were made for these wheels.
  5. Bobby, this thing is great! Definitely bookmarking this build for reference.
  6. And now, you get a little better idea of what I'm shooting for. Next step: cutting the fleetside skins loose from the inner truck bed sidewalls so that I can raise the bed floor to accomodate the impending channel job. (You minitruck guys call it a body drop.)
  7. I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying watching this come together. I remember a series of articles on Dean Milano making one from a Vanagon body, but I think you're miles beyond that build at this point.
  8. Not much to show yet, but I just started today on my '60 Chevrolet pickup. My first order of business to narrow up my AMT Parts Pack '60 Mercury grille to fit the width of the pickup's opening, and to clearance the opening so the grille will nestle back into it. I removed six grille bars per side, and you can see the grille opening modified on one side. When it goes back together, the inner headlights should hide the seams.
  9. This Model A just reminded me of a half-completed Riley-powered bellypan T roadster that I should pull out of mothballs and finish. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.
  10. I get that. If I was going to build a bug in 1:1, I'd run something more vintage. Since I wanted to build a model to look like many current bugs I see in my Tumblr feed, I went with the bigger wheels that look similar in style to the vintage EMPI/BRM's.
  11. Just a beater '57 Beetle with 17"-ish wheels from Revell's '41 Chevrolet Pickup.
  12. Killer stuff. Love those patina builds.
  13. This is the stuff that I love to see done. Keep up the great work!
  14. I've had this previously-built 4-Banger Dragster for a few years now, but the OHC-converted B motor was pretty severely glue-damaged. The "Offy" from a Monogram Indy Roadster gave me the impetus to pull it back out, and scavenge through a Monogram Slingster Dragster for front wheels and a few other details. Since then, I've changed gears again - ordered an Offy 270 from American Racing Miniatures - hope to have more progress soon.
  15. Love the interior details... very lived-in!
  16. Thanks for the kind words. I guess that I should point out that the figure is a styrene 1/20 Welder Girl from Industria Mechanica with a resin head swap from Brick Works. Saving the welding gear for another project... coming soon.
  17. One of Roth's cars that I've always wanted to build, but just haven't gotten to. That chassis looks great. Nothing for it but to eave the body removable.
  18. So, in some dark future, they got a little more serious about the rules in the bumper-car attraction. That's where War Pig comes in. So I started with a 1/20 Laputa (Castle in the Sky) Flaptter. For those not well-versed in the animated works of Hayao Miyazaki, it's a little one-two man ornithopter (flapping-winged flying machine) that is nearly a snap kit - pretty simple. I cut the bottom away, and built a rubber "bumper" skirt from Super Sculpey. I also added some aluminum miniguns that were meant to upgrade some cartoony tank kits, and a leftover seat from a Wallace and Grommit sidecar. The rest was all paint and minor scratchbuilding.
  19. I've had this one on the back burner for a bit. I have a candy base down, but I want to mask and shoot panels/scallops on it before I move forward.
  20. Sounds like a good reason to come visit my SFV friends, right?
  21. Truthfully, I can't remember ever seeing a real Cheetah (excepting a couple of over-restored examples) with anything approaching even body panel gaps.
  22. A quick, loose mock-up on Miss Deal suspension. It's taking on that '70s street freak stance that I was hoping for.
