AMT Piranha Hemi Dragster Out Soon
Goose1957 replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think you may have forgotten about the one that crashed at York US 30 Dragway back in the day. I believe the parachutes failed to open at the end of the run and the car plummeted into the quarry at the end of the runway. Rumor has it that the remains of the car are still at the bottom of the hole alongside the remains of some old earth moving machinery. I'm gonna use Google satellite to look into the hole and see if I can find it. ? Jeff -
Yes, there is a protective covering that gets peeled off before use on the clear acetate to protect it during shipping. Jeff

The tires are the same as the original release as stated before. I think they feel softer than the originals though. Maybe my old ones have hardened with age.

I like the expanded decal sheet. Nice printing and I like all the extra sponsor decals and Scout license plates. The IH logos are a nice touch, but I don't think I'll use the marker light decals, just foil and translucent paint. Sorry for the light flash in the middle of the sheet.

Here's a pic of the glass. The one on the right is the glass from the hardtop kit showing how it's all molded as one with the taillights in the center to trim out. The new SS kit acetate and red molded taillights are on the upper left. I think it's a mistake to mold them in red, you need to paint the reverse lights now instead of leaving them clear and just painting the taillights red. The original SS release windshield is on the lower left.

Just picked up one of the kits today and here are some pics. As discussed, the basis for the kit is the same as the hardtop or stock kit from original release to the re-releases over the years, with the exception of the body and interior tub. The extra off road parts are on a seperate sprue. The windshield in the original release was molded as a separate piece from the taillights. When I built my original release one, I didn't like how thick the molded windshield glass was.so I cut sheet acetate to fit the windshield frame, which was rather crude itself(the frame). I think the new release with the included acetate is a step in the right direction, although they should have included a guide to trace the shape somehow. I had the original kit molded glass to use and I guess I'll use it to built my new one too. Here's some pics.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

I like it. One of those is on my bucket list to do. You did a nice job on that one. I wish someone would produce other versions of Jeep Cherokees. Jeff -
News of Revell molding preparing in US
Goose1957 replied to Jon Cole's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the info. I was getting ready for work this morning when I saw this and didn't have time to check the kit numbers. I thought it was too good to be true. Oh well, back to cutting and gluing. Jeff -

Hmmm, 04 Jeep Wrangler. I wonder if this is new, or the snap kit. I see the Wrangler Rubicon listed separate so I hope this is a stock version. I want to model my current 05 Wrangler and the Rubicon kit is too modified to use (non standard rollbar, backend diamondplate, oversized fender flares, etc.). The snap kit is a little too simple for my liking. I hope this is a new model. I was gonna hack and glue both kits to make mine, but now I might just wait. Jeff -

Beautiful model and photography. Jeff -
Yeah, that car's local to me. See him a couple times a year at shows. The trunk lid opens at an angle to the side instead of the conventional way. Pretty high dollar car, but very nicely done. Jeff

Scout Parts
Goose1957 replied to cargostar's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Cool, wish mine wasn't too far gone. I'd love to restore it and drive it daily like I did when I was younger. Guess I'll just stick to my Jeeps now. Sigh...... Jeff -
WoW! I bow to your Scout modeling! You and the other contributors to this thread have inspired me and gave me new ideas to build a new version of my beloved Scout. I hope Round2 re-releases the standard Scout model after the SS version comes out soon. Keep up the great work, I'll be watching this thread. Jeff

Scout Parts
Goose1957 replied to cargostar's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great! Sign me up! I had to kitbash and scratchbuild stuff for my Scouts. Looks good so far. Please, please, please do a correct radiator and fan shroud as I couldn't find anything I liked in my parts box. Let me know if you need any detail pics of the engine bay as I took dozens of pics of my 1:1 Scout to do my engine bay on my builds. Thanks and good work. Jeff -

If You Could Only Have One?
Goose1957 replied to jaxenro's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Probably AMT Double Dragster or Monogram Slingster kit. So many different ways to build these kits. The double dragster isn't the most detailed kit, but you can build 2 complete cars many different ways. The slingster kit only builds one rail, but the detail is much better and you still have lots of choices. Glad I stocked up on a few of each of these. I think I'll put down the SUV's for a while and crack one open. Hmmm, got me thinking, lol. Jeff -

That looks great! I've been working on one now on and off for about a year and I know what you mean about the kit being a pain. I finished swapping in a v-8 out of the CJ-7 kit and had to do some work to make it fit. I should get it finished soon and will post up some pics when done. Nice work on yours, I really like the custom base for it as well. Jeff -

Very nice. As others have said, just the right amount of rust and weathering to make it look real. Good job. Jeff -
How Many Do You Work On At Once?
Goose1957 replied to jaxenro's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I usually have 3 to 5 going too. I'll see something on this site and think "that's cool, I have one of those in my stash!" and I'll start in on it. Then I hit a roadblock, usually paint related, and it sits for awhile. Then it'll be something like an event or show coming up that'll get me motivated to start something else. It never ends. Every couple of years, I'll finish something, lol. Jeff -

Thats the rumor I heard. I saw the list of new releases from a dealer friend last week and it included the AMT Scout. Didn't say which one specifically, just a Scout kit. Rumor I heard is it is the SS version. Hope to find out soon. Jeff
