1972 Jeep Commando
Goose1957 replied to Goose1957's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice ride! ? If it was mine, I'd half to build the model like the real one. Really nice Jeepster. Hope you wheel it. Jeff -
1972 Jeep Commando

Thanks for the comments guys. The Jeepster grill is included in the reissue kit, but as stated by others, you would half to modify the front fenders and hood to make one of the earlier Jeepster versions. There are several threads on here that show and tell how to do this conversion. I can't seem to link them on here, I'm on my phone at work, but a search of Jeep Commando on here will find them. I was going to try one but I was lucky enough to find a built up original at my model club swap meet. It was missing a few pieces but luckly, they were among the left over parts from this build and I could restore it. Hope to see your builds when they're done. Jeff -

Great looking truck. Nice custom touches and paint. I don't see how you have time to build all these cool looking projects. Great inspiration though. Jeff -

Looks really good. I like it a lot. All you need is Fred Astaire delivering letters to Santa and telling children the tale of Christmas. Merry Christmas to all, Jeff -
Engine Question
Goose1957 replied to George Bojaciuk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looks like the engine out of the MPC 57 Chevy gasser kit thats just been rereleased by Round 2 as the Spirit of 57 kit. Its the infamous big block/small block engine (big block heads and small block valve covers) Jeff -
Jeep rudbicon roof
Goose1957 replied to Mr mopar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In theroy, yes. I have not tried it yet, but I have several of both kits to try and do as you are asking. I want to build a model of my real 05 Wrangler and it has both a hardtop and softtop with full steel doors. I could just use the snap kit as it is just like my Jeep, but I think the detail is lacking too much for my taste. The grill on the snap kit is filled in and the undercarriage is too simple for me. Plus, I would like to be able to remove the hardtop if I want to. The Rubicon body is too modified to match my Jeep, so I'll not use it for the build. I have too many projects to finish up now, so it will have to wait. But I'll get to it someday and hope to have a build photo thread for it. Have fun trying, I'll follow along if you do it. Jeff -

Great looking truck. Customs aren't my style, but I can appreciate the craftsmanship that you put into building it. Beautiful paint job. Keep up the great work. Jeff -

Dodge A100 pickup

That turned out very nice. I was following your build and saw how much kitbashing and scratchbuilding you had to do to make it more stock appearing. Very good job on your Dodge build. I might have to try that one someday. Jeff -

They may have come with bias ply tires when new, but I'll take my radials anyday on my Bel Air. I have a set of bias tires on steel wheels I'll throw on every once in a while when I want to backdate the look. I'll tell you, there's nothing more thrilling than changing lanes on the highway at 60 without turning the steering wheel. Real white knuckle driving. Of course PA's well rutted roads don't help matters. Jeff -
Ok, has anyone else dressed their car up for halloween? I admit it, I'm guilty of it. I dunno, sometimes it's just too much fun. (Yea, my wife calls me crazy) Sometimes for the local halloween parade, other times for October car shows. This year, did the daily driver for fun for a couple of days (Yea, I breathed in toooooo many paint fumes, lol). Ok, lets see those costumes! Jeff My 57 at the October car show many years ago. I call it, the true nature of the beast. Next is my daily driver. Have some fun, life's too short.

Thanks for the nice comments. I just wish I could paint as nice as a lot of the members on here. I really need to practice wet sanding and polishing more. Jeff -

Cool! The v-16 was definitely the way to go. I like the 50's style fins on the back too. Nice build. Jeff -
I finally finished this one. Been working on it for well over a year now, kept hitting roadblocks that would derail me and make me set it aside for a while to cool down. I'm still not happy with the paint on it but I wanted it done, and nothing's perfect anyway. I used Krylon metalizers spray that they used to make, to paint it. First put down a silver coat, followed by the translucent color coat. I've used this paint before with good results, but just couldn't get it to work this time. I think it's because I used a different silver base this time. Oh well. I can't find it in stores anymore so might as well use up whats left over. I used the kit decals (built the Stevens International Mount N Goat version) to try to hide some of the imperfections. I can live with it, after all, it is a Jeep, lol. To make it more prototypical, I shoehorned in an AMC 304 V-8 from a CJ-7 kit I had for parts. I had to move the front crossmember and radiator forward so that the transmission and transfer case would still fit in the frame with the interior tub. I had to hog out the interior tub for clearance and use the shifter console from the kit to cover it up. I then had to make custom driveshafts out of aluminum tubing front and rear so they matched up with the axles and transfer case . When I started building it, I wasn't happy with the off road wheels and tires, I thought they looked too big and toylike. I saw on other threads that some think they are 1/20 scale, which makes sense, they just look "off" to me for some reason. I liked the Jeep Rubicon wheels and tires and used them. I also wasn't sold on the kit rollbar, so out came the Rubicon box again. I had to cut the Rubicon rollbar down a little to fit in the Commando tub, but I think this one looks good on it. Using photos of a Commando I took at the PA Jeep show in York, PA this summer, I detailed the interior the best I could. I shaved off the trim piece that runs around the exterior as my research found this was on eariler Jeepster models with the CJ style front end. I couldn't find any pictures of the later Commandos with the square front ends with this trim piece. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Somebody more knowledgeable may be able to help. I added some partsbox items in the interior, some KC Hilite offroad lights to the front, and a winch fairlead and hylift jack to the front bumper to give it that weekend warrior look. I'd like to add some more detail to the.engine bay, battery and cables, brake lines, wiring, and more. But for now, I'm done. I'm a little disappointed with the paint, but happy with the rest of the model. Ok, enough blabbering, on with the pics. Ad as always, thanks for looking and comments are welcome. Jeff
