I use 3M Scotch masking tape. I read somewhere here in this forum somebody said, "After I have the tape in place I brush on clear coat over the edge of the tape". I'll do just that when I get to that part. If you look at the part I painted for practice, I did not do that, so some black slipped under the tape. The main thing is to let the paint cure for at least a week so the tape won't lift the paint as you remove the tape. Nick, I posted this before I read your post and it's almost the same thing you said. Thanks!

I really like it. I have a Johnny Lightning version (1/64 scale) of this bus and also a MASH bus. But now you have given me an idea. I think I'll do a MASH version on this kit. I thought about buying this kit for some time now. Just paint it olive drab and some red crosses.

Forgot to mention. I avoid applying decals directly a over a flat color. I apply a clear coat first if I use a flat color. I read somewhere that they won't stick well over a flat color.

The left lane is for faster traffic only in the Interstates or big Highways. That's the only place you see the sign that says, "Slower Traffic Keep Right". And even there, if you tailgate anybody on the left lane you are wrong. Tailgating is wrong anywhere.

Peterbilt 359 Wrecker
angelo7 replied to model1:25th scale's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Free hand painting is fine for the details but for the body at least I recommend you use the little hobby spray cans. They are not expensive. -
It don't matter what you used before. Just my opinion. I once painted using a hobby spray red color and then used a Rustoleum Crystal Clear spray and had good results. The thing about big spray cans is that they will tend to be thicker and if you use too many coats you will start covering some of the small details. And big cans have a bigger nozzle and will spit out even more paint than a hobby spray.

I downloaded this very comic to my Kindle for 99 cents and can read it as many times as I want. In color.

Peterbilt 359 Wrecker
angelo7 replied to model1:25th scale's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This is a very expensive kit. I tried to buy one but the ones I found were way over my budget. But I managed to find a simpler and cheaper wrecker from AMT, which I'm currently working on. You say your airbrush gun has gone bad, but you can finish the project with the old regular hobby spray paints. That's all I use. -
You mean spray a complete clear coat or just paint brush around the edges of the tape?

You guys are artists here. Beautiful car.

Yet another Snap Pete 359
angelo7 replied to angelo7's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks! I'm leaning to a white frame now. -
I would choose the Tamiya clear.

I haven't got to that part yet but I did practice it on a piece of plastic I'm not using (the back of a truck sleeper) and I got good results. I painted the white first then taped over the white and painted black. My concern was removing the white paint when removing the masking tape but I removed it without any problem. The red stripes are automotive stripes.

I apply decals after I color paint, then I apply a high gloss clear coat or maybe two over the decals and paint. As mikemodeler says, I would use hobby paints only, anything else is too thick. I personally don't like primers. I use as few coats of paint or clear as possible.

How this tow truck works?
angelo7 replied to angelo7's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aren't the four hooks on the plate facing the wrong direction? In my first photo the hooks are facing the opposite direction. -
This is a great kit to modify and learn new tricks. The box shown is this kit. This is my third one. It will be a single axle , day cab rig. I'm planning to paint the chassis red also but looking at these pictures, I'm beginning to like the white color. I even thought about a blue chassis. Not sure yet. I removed about 1 1/2 inches from the frame. The back of the cab is part of the sleeper made to fit and filled around with putty. Will get back with more pictures as I progress.

Got it. Thanks. Then there is something wrong in this wrecker. Can you see what it is? -

So the chains will rub against the towed truck bumper, but not the lifting cable, right? -

Thank you guys. The kit does not show the chains so with these pictures it gives me a better idea of how it works now. Thanks for the link and photos Terry and the picture Tim. This kit brings me memories too. That's why I bought it. My best friend from when we were teenagers had it while I had a Mack Cruiseliner. We would work on these kits together. Hey Todd, why don't you post some photos of your trucks? -
I've been trying to figure out how this type of tow truck can hook up another truck behind.

Peterbilt Winslow Stripes
angelo7 replied to angelo7's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank You Tim. Hey, I have had your website on my Favorites for a long time. Go there all the time for reference or just to look at your models. That's where I learned of the Winslow name. You are a real Pro Builder. I admire your trucks very much. Angel
