Finished this one up last Saturday just in time for the MAMA meeting! Painted Testors "Da Ja" blue with wet look clear. This is my second "Itasha" model I've built. It was really fun to do and I did not have very many problems getting it together. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed :-)

Oh, BTW, the anime series is pretty cool as well (and I'm 59 years old!) It is called "The Devil is a part-timer." You can get more info on it from Wikipedia if interested. (So yes, I've built the car and bought the DVD!)

Funny, that is exactly how I felt when I first saw them. But the more I looked at them the more I wanted to try and build one. It took me a couple of years to get one but after I got started on it, it turned out to be quite fun :-) I do tend to stretch my modeling window so to speak, I've built 18 wheelers, customs, low riders, and even a "Donk" 94 Impala! Thank you very much for the complement!

Yes this is an Aoshima kit with the decals. It may not be currently available right now but here is the box Thank you for the great complements everyone! I feel humbled.

"Itasha" means Pain car in Japanese. This could refer to the pain you feel when looking at it or the cost to your wallet after building it :-) Basically an Itasha car is one that is covered in pictures of Anime, Manga, and Pop star decals. Some look really cool. I think the one I built does. Thanks for looking!

Great looking kit, but you are not quite done with the BMF. Along the top of the fins at the rear where the color separation is are some chrome trim. They can be seen in the picture below. The kit actually does have some very slight indications of this chrome molding on the rear.

With the vast majority of these kits being done in green or blue, I wanted a different color for mine. So I picked Tamiya Gunmetal. From what I understand it was a factory summer color for Ford back in 1957 so that worked out well since I was debating on whether to build it stock or not. The final build will be something like a "day one" or "week one" car. Chrome reverse wheels are from the AMT 36 Ford kit while the tires are from the AMT parts pack, L60s on the rear while the F60s are on the front. Intake is from the Revell 57 Tudor kit. Interior is a mix of Tamiya greys, German grey on the door and seat panels, medium sea grey carpet, and light aircraft grey inserts on the door panels. The top of the door panels, rear floor, and wheel wells are painted body color, along with the dash. I still need to paint the white part of the seats the light aircraft grey. I might put some blue dots and some pin stripping on the tail gate, not sure yet. Thanks for looking :-)

This one was started from the original kit when Revell first released it. I originally built the stock 4 bbl engine for it and was really impressed with how the engine looked when built. But then I went to paint it, and the original body reacted badly to the paint. After trying numerous things to get the body cleaned up I stuck it in a box until I could get a replacement body. A replacement body came a few months later in the form of the Fireball Roberts race car. I was interested in the body & supercharged engine and the race car was cheaper than the stock Tudor kit anyway :-) BTW, the original engine from the Revell kit fits really well inside the engine compartment of the AMT 57 Fairlane 500 kit. All that needs to be done is a little trimming on the transmission mount to get it to fit. I removed the chrome plating from the supercharger and painted it Tamiya bright aluminum. I really like the look of this engine. I painted the model Tamiya TS-15 blue and then detailed the interior for a stock look. I did deviate a bit from stock by painting the steering column & wheel Tamiya Light gunmetal instead of black. I discovered the Revell "Ford" hubcap decals will fit great on the AMT full wheel covers that I'm using on this build. I still need to paint the white lines on these hubcaps, like I did on my AMT build (still in progress BTW). Of course I picked this one up a month or so ago and started it as well. For the wagon I'm saving the supercharger setup and instead using the 2-4bbl intake from the original Tudor kit. I have an AMT Fairlane 500 steering wheel for it and I am debating between chrome reverse wheels or full wheel covers. Well, that's it for now, look for some updates later when I get some BMF on these bodies and some pictures taken of the Del Rio.

Since the snap-tite kit was delayed by about 2 months, I decided not to wait for the "in theory" Sept release of the full(er) detailed kit. I started to paint it yellow but had some problems so I sanded it down and prepped it with Tamiya Silver leaf. Then I shot Tamiya Mica Silver as a base coat for the Tamiya TS-50 blue final color. Model has a few coats of Tamiya TS-13 clear over it. I got some chipping around the headlight area when I put the covers on, I am hoping I can touch this up with some Tamiya clear blue brush paint. I am going to use the chrome wheels from the Revell 2006 ZO6 kit along with it's stock brakes since the 2014 kit basically has washers for the brake system. Tail lights have been detail painted and installed . All and all not a bad little kit for a snap together, but watch out for those headlight covers!

WOW! So cool! This could be your first "Parts Pack!." Put a set of 5 in a box and sell them separately, you could probably sell about a million of them!

New Revell 1/25 2013 Camaro ZL-1 (pre-painted)
RDean58 replied to Brett Barrow's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great comments Tim! I agree completely. When we all first started building these things I very much doubt we started out removing mold lines, putting on a perfect paint job, etc.. If I remember correctly, I built a lot of them right out of the box in plain white plastic, mold lines and all! For new kids stating out, getting one already painted in a cool color and that is easy to put together is a great way to introduce new "members" into the modeling community! Heck, I'm getting one myself as it fills a blank spot in my collection of new Camaros, (I have the Rev 2010 & Round2 2011 convertible). I'll build it with the pre-painted body but will detail paint the engine compartment, I can live with mold lines as long as they are not too bad and I think the case here is that they are not. I'm getting the 2014 Corvette as well and will build it OOB as well. I kind of like pre-paints because they are easy to assemble and I don't have to allocate time to paint the body (married guy here, with lots of honey-dos :-)) -
The New Round2 66 Mustang kit comes with 2 F60-15 tires, and they are pad printed. So all ya need to do is to get 2 of the 66 Mustang kits for a set of F60-15 tires. I am using the firestone tires from the AMT 66 Oldsmobile Hardtop kit for my build of the 442.

Started March of 2007, I stopped working on this because I could not figure out how to mask off the door panels for the red paint that needs to be done on it. But I have some silly putty now and I hear that works great so I'm hoping to get back to this one. It is painted with Paintscratch.com 1995 Rosso corso touchup paint. It still needs a clear coat. This one has also been painted with the touch up Rosso Corso, but needs another coat plus clear. The pic here was taken before the first coats of paint were applied. This one is actually quite farther along than what the picture above suggests, I am hoping to get this one finally finished in 2012, it was started in March of 2007!

I've been working on a set of Revell of Germany/Revell Ferraris for awhile. Here is the lineup. I'm liking this in white plastic, I was going to paint it red but I might have to shoot it Testors White Lightening instead. This one is destined to be painted black. A pic of the engine, I used BMF on the details then, painted over it, then wiped it off. Turned out not too bad. California Up Top. Not sure what color for this one yet. This one will be painted a brigh red, perhaps Tamiya Mica Red or the new Bright Ferrari Red from Tamiya, I think it is TS-85 or something like that. I'm working on this one that I started back in 09, trying to get it done. Another one started in 2009, if what you can call what I have got done stated, this one will be black. No pictures of these, but I also have a Revell of Germany Superamerica and Fujimi Superamerica started and a Fujimi 348 TS and F355 Barlinatta going as well.

Buying kits from Japan
RDean58 replied to Kit Basher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I ordered my kits from Hobby Search Japan. Excellent service and they have (had) a bonus where you could earn "points" to reduce the price of other models. I went to their website and used my CC, the bank took care of the currency exchange. A few years ago, (before the banking mess, home mortgage mess, stock market crash, etc..) I found that I could buy kits from Japan and get them shipped to me cheaper than what I could order them for from places like Dragon USA or Tower hobbies. Now, with the dollar value in the sink and the yen at a very high price, that is not the case. You can end up spending a lot more for kits directly from Japan. On the other hand, you can get kits from Japan that are never sold in the states, so if you want them then Japan is the only place to get them from. Other online model shops in UK and Australia for example will be more expensive that stuff from Japan. I would usually receive my shipments within 10 days after ordering. One time I even got them within 3 days! As far as payment, use a credit card or debit card. No checks, check at the site for PayPal, but I never used it. I always just used the website to order from, never called them. Although I did GET a call from Japan once, from an online hobby shop associated with Asoshima (since closed). The lady had a problem with my card and called me up to get it straightened out. I thought that was excellent customer service and ordered all my kits from them until they closed up shop. I have used Hobby Link Japan but they do seem to be a bit slower on shipping. The last time I ordered from Japan was late 2010. -
Excellent looking Cuda! BTW, that problem you had with the scoop not fitting on the engine was 'engineered at the factory!" None of them fit correctly without thinning down the baseplate.

MAN Trucks in the USA?
RDean58 replied to RDean58's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It was badged as a MAN. At first I couldn't believe it so I had to look at the badging again to make sure. -
I was driving home last week on the Washington D.C.beltway when I saw this on the other side heading south! I was quite shocked to see it to be honest, as I know these trucks are European. The truck & trailer were grey and the trailer had a swoopy looking car outline on the back. I didn't see any lettering so I can't tell you what it was carrying. I did just learn that Volkswagen has bought up 30% of MAN trucks, so maybe there is some type of promotion going on where they would want to use one of their new MAN trucks in the states. Anyone care to guess?

No, not metalflacke, solid color.

Painted Tamiya Italian Red, Crazy Modeler Ferrari Badges, Mr. Modeler SF Decals While this kit is a curbside, it has a complete engine in it, strange. Thanks for looking.

Thought I'd share some pics of my California, color is Testors Mystic Emerald, Interior, Tamiya Brown Linoleum/Painters Touch Satin Ivory. Aftermarket shields & scripts I'll have to build the California with the up top next. I had a bit of problems getting the frame sitting inside the body correctly on this one, so lessons learned for the up top version. Thanks for looking.

Car hauler question .
RDean58 replied to hotrod59f100's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I have this car trailer as well. My plan is to use it along with the Ford 600 (900?) to haul collector cars, as such, the Ford will use all the chrome with a bright paint job, custom interior (carpeting, high back buckets, etc.) while the trailer will be painted to match the cab. Another on my "to do" list.
