The mixing ratio with ANY Testor paint is variable. I've seen the stuff darn near ready to airbrush right from the bottle, and I've had other bottles that oozed out like maple syrup. Put in the right amount of lacquer thinner and it all works, though. Knowing how MUCH thinner to use comes with experience.

Thanks! I asked because some time ago, I read something to the effect that starting in the mid '60s, "everybody" was running 1965 Ford frames--presumably full-size/Galaxie frames, presumably modified to fit shorter wheelbases as necessary. I wasn't sure if the comment was a joke, or had some basis in truth, and if so, was it mandated by NASCAR, or just something everyone did, or what. I'd never really thought about it before, and that at that time, all the intermediate cars except GM's (which wasn't a big force in NASCAR by then) were unibodies.

Yes you can! Points awarded!

It also wandered off. No wonder!

Apparently at some point you wanted to build a supercharged '33-'34 Ford.

Didn't confuse me at all. Model on!

So that's why it was flat. As to the lumps, flat paints can sometimes do that if not thoroughly mixed. Shake, then manually stir, then shake some more. It's also possible you got a bad bottle. Testor no longer turns out a consistent product, as they did for decades. I've seen all kinds of quality issues. It's also possible your lacquer thinner didn't like the paint (or vice versa). 30 PSI shouldn't have done that. I've sprayed lots of models at 30 with no problems. Unless I'm trying to airbrush a fine line or feather-edge camouflage, I don't find air pressure all that critical--almost anywhere in the 20 to 35 PSI range works fine and I don't pay that much attention to it. In other words, turning the PSI from 24 to 27--or vice versa--isn't going to have a big effect on your paint job.

And their parents hated the "swing" music. I think it's just a generational thing, not racial. I seem to recall reading somewhere a quote that went something like, "The young people today don't know anything, don't respect their elders, and their music is just noise"--from one of the noted ancient Greek philosophers.

I've never seen those anywhere around me, just gray Plastruct and lovely white Evergreen.

It's not just modelers, as I can testify from seeing the same thing on message boards of many topics. There are some people who just have to talk about themselves and/or whatever is on their mind at the moment, regardless of the stated topic at hand. Sometimes I respond with "Thanks for sharing." or, if I'm feeling particularly snarky, "Thanks for your unvaluable contribution." (I figure half of them will read it as Invaluable and feel good.)

Two things to fix on this body: 1. The "cuts" for the taillights in the body are sharper than the taillight bezels. The lower forward corners have to be filled in a little. (Test-fit the parts and you'll see what I mean.) 2. The frames in the long rear windows are about twice as wide as they should be. I've never seen anyone thin or replace these, but I'm going to on the one I'm building. If you're not going to use the front bumper, the front end needs some fixing, but that's another story. Oh, also, the headlight rims/bezels are about twice as wide/thick/fat as they need to be. Few if any modelers I've seen actually fix these things, but you look like you want to do a nice job, so I'm just layin' this stuff out there if you're interested. If not, just drive on.

Hobby Lobby re-opening
Snake45 replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Hobby Lobby website has a Store Locator section. Click on it and put in your zip code and it will show you the status of "your" stores. The three closest to me show "Temporarily Closed." -
Cloudy, Dull Paint Finish Problem
Snake45 replied to PeterB's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
No. I've had paints change color a little on polishing (that's when you know you need to use a clearcoat), but never anything that dramatic. I've never used that paint so don't know what to tell you. Maybe someone else can be of more help. -
I probably saw every one of them. They were a favorite, along with Alan King and George Carlin. (Not that big a fan of Myron Cohen or Henny Youngman.)

Back on topic:

I remember him from Stiller & Meara on Ed Sullivan. Of course I loved him on Seinfeld.

The term "rock and roll" itself is of rather bawdy origins. No wonder there was initial resistance to "rock and roll music."

AGAIN with the politics. Ironically, what followed was perfectly fine and not really political at all. Not sure why you felt it necessary to introduce politics again.

Can I get a AY-men from the choir?

I don't. Too hard to cement. I do have loads of Evergreen styrene, though.
-
Very clean, shiny build! Those wheelie bars won't do much but protect the lower edge of the back bumper, though.

Since writing that, I've managed to acquire several original AMT '66 Impala annuals--both promos and kits--and they actually seemed to have gotten the roof right on that one, or darn close to it. It actually looks better than the roof on the Revell '65-'66 Impalas. It's WAY better than the roofs on the AMT '65 Impala and Bonneville.

I'm not a fan of custom Mercs--actively dislike them, in fact--but I thought the one in the Cobra movie came darn close to cool looking (probably due to its complete lack of rococo fru-fru). Your model captures it well! Model on, my friend!
