  1. The hood in mine was a stock '69 hood, just with the scoop holes in it. Fill those and you're golden. What are the differences between a '68 and '69? IIIRC the '68 was a mid-year introduction and I don't think there were many if ANY differences for '69. The Modelhaus site is down so I can't check but I know they do have SOME '68-'70 Javelin and AMX stuff. I think the only hood they offer is the '70 AMX, with the scoop.
  2. Rumor has it that the molds still exist for the Monogram Airpower set, but the hangup is the wire stands. Depending on the story, (1) those can't be economically produced today, or (2) they constitute too much of a "consumer hazard" for something that could find its way into the hands of children. Who knows.
  3. Dunno, but she had bigger hits with several than the original artists. One that comes immediately to mind is Poor Poor Pitiful Me. To this day most people don't know that was written and originally recorded by Warren Zevon. Her recording of Hasten Down the Wind might have been released before Zevon's own version of it--I'd have to check the album release dates to see.
  4. Tighten up, do the Tighten Up!
  5. If anyone is interested, Welly does a 1/25 (ish) diecast '65 GTO that's reasonably priced. I have two (gold and dark green) and bought them because they were cheap ($10-$15) and looked more like a '65 GTO than the AMT kit.
  6. Very nice build indeed! I wish all my 1/72 stuff looked this good.
  7. How does one post You2be links here so that they're "live," not just clickable links? I haven't been able to figger that out yet.
  8. Here's one posted elsewhere. (The builder is registered and has posted here.) I hope this doesn't violate any forum rules. If it does, moderator, just delete this post and accept my apologies in advance. http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/29/p/118689/1102138.aspx#1102138
  9. And thank heavens they weren't or there would be none of them around today. I can't afford mint unbuilt rare kits, but I've been able to score a number of restorable glue bombs and "distressed" promos on ePay for reasonable prices. It's actually more fun to bring one of those back from the dead than to build the best new kit on the market. Still kinda odd to pay 10X or more for one what the kit originally sold for new, though.
  10. No idea, but I've found that if you guess "Sammy Hagar" to questions like that, you run a good chance of being right.
  11. I never had an original body (I DO have an original white "vinyl" hardtop I'll use on something someday), but the ends of the rear fenders of the current ones look more like '64s than '65s. When I build mine, I'll file those back and reshape them.
  12. First was a '62 VW sunroof, followed after one year by a '65 Buick Special 2-door sedan. I wish I had THAT one back. #3 was a '69 SS/RS Camaro. Wish I had that one back, too.
  13. If you were doing a standard USAAC P-40, you could just shoot your olive drab and be done with it. Your primer is very close in color to underside "Neutral Gray."
  14. Get the Modelhaus front bumper/headlight piece. It's made from an original 1st-issue and fits and works great. There is NOTHING else you can do to this kit that will make it look better than the Modelhaus unit.
  15. Very nice writeup, Vince. Thanks for taking the time!
  16. Revell currently has a series of 1/32 scale snappers in Walmart and elsewhere. I wonder if at least some of these might fit into that line. (Could they be converted to snap construction?)
  17. Chassis is basically the same as the old mid-'60s '55 Nomad. Kinda cool for what it is. The major complaint about this kit seems to be that the hood is too narrow; that is, it leaves noticeable gaps on either side when placed on/in the body.
  18. I hear you knocking, Dave Edmunds.
  19. That Fiat is way cool. In fact, it's much more typical of the early/mid '60s Fiat altered than the AMT Double Dragster kit is.
  20. Beatles, There's a Place.
  21. No idea, but doesn't read like The Carpenters or Donnie & Marie...I'm gonna guess White Stripes?
  22. Jay Leno, is that you?
  23. This sounds weird but it works: For gloss enamels, after they're fully dry, rub them with a pencil eraser. Flattens em right out. (I routinely use this trick on the front sights of handguns.)
