Yeah I'm pretty bad at hoarding VW kits. I like most styles of kit but VW's are the cars my dad had when i was growing up so i have loads of VW mags and pics. I'm looking forward to the Revell Germany mk1 Golf kits coming out so I can build an 80's version of the same dealership. I look forward to seeing your models, is there a build thread? Thankyou for your reply, my shopping list would seem to be never ending when it comes to kits. My next build isn't a VW though, its a big mash up of spares and old built kits that have fallen apart, and now I've almost finished my current build I'm getting excited about it. It will have a build thread from the start and may be a bit unusual with its mixed scales and styles but thats the beauty of models i suppose.

Looks like a fun project. I can remember Custom Car magazine(UK) building a similar car in the early 70's out of a 46! bug. Well i say remember but i mean i have the magazine cos i wasn't born then. Just wondering if the Revell Beetle will fit on the Tamiya 66 chassis. I'm pretty financially embarassed so buying both kits to find out isn't an option. I have a vague idea to build a VW Showroom diorama in the future and since there are so many 60's VW kits out there now i thought it may be time to start collecting. I already have the Revell Split Screen Camper and a Hasegawa pick up is on back order. Also was it Hasegawa who did the Split Crew Cab pick up? I intend to get a few Tamiya beetles as i think the engine is about the best version i have seen. I built both Tamiya beetle and Karmann Ghia more than 10 years ago and feel its about time i built them again and this diorama seems like the perfect setting for them.

Well this is my first build for ten years (maybe even longer) and now its nearly finished i thought I would share some pics. All I have left to do is paint the lights, fit the grille which will be a photo etch one and paint and fit the bumpers and exterior mirrors. I plan to get another of this kit so I would like some constructive criticism. I made my own plug wires from an old telly and while they are too big scale, I am quite pleased with how they turned out. I have used a lot of tips from this forum and others and gotten really frustrated at times, particularly with the suspension which just did not line up ( dry build before paint next time) and with the primer which just would not harden on the body but did everywhere else(twice from 2 different rattle tins so i changed to Holts acrylic with Holts clear plastic primer) I will write a longer bit when i post the finished pics, which i hope my mate will do cos i just cant take a decent pics of models. hope to have finished pics up by wednesday. I look forward to your advice and comments. Thanks for looking

I thought i was doing well building a box kit slightly differently! Definitely following this one.

It's painted with Humbrol enamel over the plastic with no primer. I think your right, re-attaching the wheel would make it display better, but i don't think I'll wash it. I kinda like it dirty. I just need to practice getting that effect for another build i have planned in my head. I have another of the kit built as a low Overhaulin style build on Torque Thrust style wheels but its going in the rebuild pile. It hasn't aged too well as I built it before i knew to remove the paint where I'm glueing. Ah well you live and learn

Hi there folks, this is one of my old builds that i recently found in the loft/attic. I built this about 14 years ago and it is box stock. I must point out it is not deliberately weathered, just really dirty after so long in an open box. The pictures are just as it came out of the box and i do have the snapped off wheel and hood but i'm not sure if i want to re-attach it or not. I may leave it as is for now, because it was the first model that i was pleased with when i was last building.I know its not perfect but even as is it reminds me of a time in my life when building models was therapy for me more than a hobby. I would like constructive criticism on it though as it will help me with my future models.

Welcome i'm new to the forum too, but i used to build models years ago but not to the level of those on here. I think you'll find loads of inspiration and hints and tips on here

Nice build, I like the colour choices you've made. How did you find building the kit? i have built the Tamiya 66 version and since VW's are my favourite cars i may have to get this kit. Does it have a detailed engine? And i like the fact it's built right hand drive, but i live in the UK where we drive on the right side of the road, lol!!!

At the moment i am building a revell germany mk2 escort rally car into the type of car i saw around when i was a kid. You know the type being fixed up on the road for not much cash, in the uk they were descibed as "beer and cigarettes budget". I dont really have a build style other than if its a car or truck i'll build something out of it or use it for parts. My next build is going to be a 1/24 Italeri kenworth chassis with a heavily reworked 1/25 scale AMT chevy pick up cab. Once i get started on it i'll make a build thread for it. I dont expect it to be easy due to the amount of cutting, glueing and filling that is going to be needed but at the same time i have a lot of free time through the week so i'm just going to go for it. I think one of my biggest problems with this build may be that both kits are already built and painted, so my first question is should i strip the paint before i start or leave it to use as a guide? i intend to widen the fenders on the front of the pick up to fit the chassis and have a bit of a kustom/lowrider style to it. The escort i'm currently building is about 3 or 4 days from finished now so when its completed i will write a short note about what i've done to it and hopefully you'll help me to improve my models in the future. i look forward to interacting with you all and happy modelling dudes

hi steve, i'm new to the forum as well. i live on the orkney islands at the top of scotland. i look forward to seeing your builds and sharing tips and advice. i find ebay is not too bad for sourcing kits in the uk and some of the sellers from hong kong seem to have a pretty varied selection of kits.

Hi folks, my name is Les and i like to build models. Ok that sounded like A.A. Who would have thought styrene could be that adictive. Lol. I live in the far North of Scotland on the Orkney Islands.I generally build cars and trucks in 1/24 and 1/25 scale. It has been about ten years since i built any models. Its only in the last week i thought to look for modelling forums as opposed to searching plastic models on google, and some of the suggested links for that were eye opening to say the least, but the less of them the better. Lol. Anyway i hope to make some friends and get tips from the forum and look forward to interacting with you all.
