Removing Chrome from Italeri
stitchdup replied to Warren D's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I put the parts in a zip lock baggie and spray with mr muscle oven cleaner (I think its called easy off in the US) and give it a rinse and wash about 10 mins later and it comes off. It's not very nice on the lungs though, but the baggie keeps the fumes down until you open it and allows you to see if its cleaned off. -
I come here because I like model cars. The inspiration from here and other sites I use to challenge myself to improve and I dont have the option to find any of this local to me (I live on an island in scotland and "models are for kids/toys/pointless" is the attitude I get when I talk to my friends(delete as appropriate)) If it wasn't for the forums I would probably have given up by now. I have to say though, I have made some good friends from the forums which probably is the most important part of the hobby to me and the models are now just a bonus

Dune Buggy Aftermarket Engine Kits?
stitchdup replied to BDSchindler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The revell gypsy kit has some empi parts that could be used on a dune buggy such as the exhaust and carbs, and I think it has a corvair engine option (been a while since I looked at mine) the tyres are horrid 2 part things though and the tamiya beetle has a really nice chassis and engine but it's 1/24. There was some resin empi wheels on ebay early last year but I havent seen them in a while. If you want a later vw engine the 1/25 camper/magnum pi bus has a type 4 engine but you will need to scratch up some heads and get the carbs from some other kit as most of it is hidden in the bus so they didn't do the whole engine. If you're after an earlier engine the hasagawa kubelwagen has a nice engine and sand tyres that would maybe work but it's not very common and pricey when you find one. -
I had a tamiya ford mustang which the tyres seem to have dried out and split around the edges, and also the imax caddy I just built the tyres seemed to be covered in a mould, I washed it off in dish soap and dried them and within a day they were mouldy again. Bit annoying cos I wanted to use them on the rear of a hot rod

Well just to confuse things a little more, what you guys in the US call french fries (and are actually Belgian) are chips this side of the pond, but your chips we call crisps which I'm led to believe is what you call salad greens -

Nah mate, it's still a mud flap here, a mud guard is what you get on your push bikes. One of my friends was in the US a few years ago and managed to offend a lot of people, and almost got arrested on a night out for saying he was going for a cigarette, he did word it as he would this side of the pond though "I'm going to smoke a fag" -
I've seen some guys spray from further away so the paint is drying as it hits the plastic, lots of dust coats instead of going for a smooth finish. I've never dome it myself though,

There is a WIP, but it's on another forum. The roof was laced by placing some lace on the top of it and dusting on some paint (I use spray cans so it's a little thick) the seats are sewing thread on double sided tape which was then cut to fit, and the chrome is a mix of the kit supplied bits and BMF ultrabrite
-
Finished this today. It's the Imax kit with revell corvette wheels. Made up some airbags to replace the kit springs, used thread to do a mexican blanket interior, lace paint on the roof, lowered until the tyres hit the tops of the fenders and wired the engine. The roof and glass dont fit very well on this kit, and to even get the top on the interior tub needed to be trimmed a bit on the sides and rear.

Truck Kits You've Scored Recently
stitchdup replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm looking to start one of these this year, most likely the daf. The mercedes was on sale for about half price Some beacons, spotlights and chain from kfs The daf was 15 quid because half the front bumper is missing but shouldn't be a problem. Planning to put a hi-ab behind the cab on this and have it dechromed and pulling the dumper trailer Trailer for the daf And these tyres are for an old fridge trailer I already have that is being made into a flat bed -
Nicest 4 banger; your thoughts.

I gotta agree on that one, I had one in a four door euro mk2 escort and it just would not die no matter how much it was beat on, but then that may be why it was the same block used in the cosworth turbos. I also like the vauxhall/opel/holden 2lirtes from the early til late 90's, especially when they have the saab conversion, and the honda vtec is pretty cool too. I don't have any experience of the nissan or toyota 2 litres but given they're popular with the import guys they must be pretty good too. But being being a vw fan boy their 1.8 mk3 golf gti is my fav, I had one bored to around 2l on twin carbs and it just seemed to have power for days. I didn't do any of the engine work other than add the carbs but I suspect it had other work done before I got it but it was still a strong engine and I am still harrasing the guy that has it now to sell it back (I think he's starting to get sick of me now, lol) -

kit form services do tiger print and stripey ones, and I've seen others. What style are you looking for? -
1937 Ford Woodie - aka Carbon14
stitchdup replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just an option but I have the amt woody mentioned already and the revell 48 woody and the revell seems to have a slightly wider front window area (just going from memory since I have neither easy to get to just now) which may fit the 37 better. For the roof a simple pie cut along the front line of the door post/b pillar may save some work and if it was continued into/close the flat of the roof may save some work. After all that scratching up the lower rear panel to suit the 37 fender might be a walk in the park -
Cool, I think this could be the first build of this kit I've seen. I like your colour choices too, like something from the h2o show n shine
