Does anyone offer these wheels in 1/24 or 1/25?
stitchdup replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm guessing you mean the rims on Billsj black car as they were the only enkei rims i saw on the thread. If aoshima dont do them as a wheel set look at the hasegawa tuner kits of 70s and 80s japanese cars. They will be available in 3d also. Enkei or rota wheels seem to be the most common rims but given how popular they are with tuners thats not a surprise. I'm sure i've seen those rims in a 80s civic kit though. -
it makes them more difficult to get looking right, the molded in lights tend to be soft on details and edges of trim aren't defined as clear as they could be

Thats cool, now youjust need one of those colourful hawaiian flower garlands around the roof to finish it off Pat. -
Start by thinning out the inside of the body. It will save you a lot of work in that small space. I would get it down to between 3-5mm where you are removing material, then start from the outside. Did you give the body a good wash in hottish soapy water too? if not go and do it now before any more work is done as the jimmy flintstone bodies always have mold release on them and it will cause problems later when you get to paint. You should fix the damage after its washed and 2 part auto filler should work, though you may want to put some masking tape behind it so it has something to set up against. Dont try and rush it as thats when it goes wrong i find

How many models are you working on at one time?
stitchdup replied to rossfox's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tend to have about a dozen on the go at a time. My tastes vary and some days i'll feel like something 30s and the next might be modern japenese or 70s saloon. I find having more than one on the go lets me switch as the mood takes me. For example I have a model a phaeton, a 37 lincoln, a 49 merc, a 55 ford pick up, a vw brasilia, a vw type 3 notch, a vw bay window pick up, a 75 ford escort, a t3 vw custom pick up, a holden hq, a 86 monte carlo, a r32 skyine and a r36 gtr liberty walk in various states of play and some others i might pick up for a day now and then. Only the model a is anywhere close to box stock -

he started it. and now since china was prepared, hes lost. china is the only place we can get tech made as they are the only place with 300,000 specialist engineers and 90% of the rare earth minerals needed to make them. even the rare earth minerals mined in the usa get sent to china for processing because it is very dangerous to do, with massive amounts of toxic waste leftover, hence china does it. they have engineers, we have a generation of baristas and drug addict tech (this micro dosing they talk about is what addicts do every day) moguls being idolised for a new colour of phone. china was ready for this, nobody else was and its us that have to pay more for everything as usual.

divert the boats to europe, we'll buy it if its at usa prices instead of the current near double prices. its a win for the company as they get direct distribution in europe and can sell their made in china stock without tariffs and a win for modellers as we wont be paying 2 or 3 lots of import duty like we do currently with american kits since we pay usa imports tax, usa state sales tax (if bought on ebay froma usa seller) and then local import duty when it arrives in europe. The model companies could find ways around the tariffs that actually help them get new markets and if they choose one with a trade deal you guys can mail order from there with the only real difference being the extra 2 weeks delivery

tamiya tape used to be good but in the last few years its gotten worse. the thinners in aerosols seem to change its make up from glue that sticks to glue from post it notes that somehow doesn't stick yet pulls the shine off where the tape has been. I've been using 1" frog (green lid) tape since. its like tamiya used to be but the tape itself is thicker. theres also low tack 2" rolls of purple tape that is pretty thin and slightly transparent that work pretty good. both these can be cut to any width and are cheaer than tamiya and the transparency of the purple tape make is ideal for graphics

theres a few bodies but they all have the lights molded in. the proportions look decent on them though

The downside of the hobby - what annoys you?
stitchdup replied to Mike C's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
the problem with scaling is you could have 2 engine blocks from different designers that are the same size in one scale but when you rescale them they end up different. this is due to the original 3d drawing being drawn to different decimal places. Just 0.005 is nothing at 1/24 but when you rescale is that can be another 3 or 4mm as an average block is 1200 layers with that extra 0.005mm on every layer. you wouldn't get if its drawn to 2 decimal places. -
how do they scale for kit bashing? I like the revell undies better but neither really captures the rear axle well with both losing a lot of what makes it look so good under a car. there was a great aftermarket axle but the maker recently shut down unfortunately
