Trade school enrollment is way up...
stitchdup replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
i see what your saying but i also see whos paying for it and i'm just not hopeful about it given who they are. i'm not a conspiracy theorist but when the same people get richer when we lose our jobs it doesn't inspire confidence. look at human history -

i dont want to see that world. everything will end up purely functional and the art will be gone. sure we'll have an easy life but wheres the joy in monotony. its flaws that give us what we have today as much as function and ai powered robots will never manage that. take a thatched roof for example, its the lack of repetition as much as the actual repetition that make them look nice. ai just cant understand the 2 can be combined for something better and still be functional -
if you have a printer you can do your own. just find a plate sales site with a preview generator and save the image. any photo or image program can be used to scale it to suit, then print on photo paper and its job done. i recommend filling the sheet of paper though to save on the photo paper.

Don, for an early build it looks good. Paint is one of the harder parts of modelling and it takes practise. You might just need to clean paint from the joining surfaces to get a better fit. i've had parts look way off just from paint thickness but after a little cleaning they fitted great. And the kit you started with is a great kit, but like all kits they have finnicky bits. Honestly, you came to the right place for your questions and didn't just bulder through it. You did it right and now its practise. I think your being too hard on yourself

the hankerchiefs work great. if you soak them in pva and let it dry its much easier to work and will hold its shape on edges. it prevents the edges fraying too. this tarp is a hanky and pva -
starbucks stirrers work great. it only takes a soggy teabag to stain them darker and a soak in white vinegar to age them. this is just duplicolour clear over mud stained stirrers

I think buying and selling needs to be premium to prevent scammers. they are less likelly to show up if it costs them money and their payments can be traced back to them. instead of thinking of it as pay to play, think of it as a virus blocker on your computer. For it to work for us honest folk we need them to go away. we dont want anyone being robbed and if a fee prevents that it might be the only option but nothings set in stone yet and its early days

At the moment the advertisers pay google, who then pay us something. I believe part of the aim with having a paid option on the forum is so we can sell our own ads which would be relevant to us. What i'd like to see is it being successful for the advertisers, our members and ourselves so that we could possibly have special deals for members in the future. I'd also like to see any advertisers have their own news section for new supplies or products so they can become part of our community too. it can only benefit us all if we get it right.

Ferarri 365GTB/4 Engine question

I've done that before but i used files and sandpaper. i find some resin prints can shatter if you use too much pressure on a motor tool. -

Cool build, it reminds me off the unfinished trucks at lone star reunion i've seen online and could easily be a future trucking mag style feature. Any plans to do the finished version too? -

Ferarri 365GTB/4 Engine question

if you run the print under quite hot water the supports are much easier to remove and it can reduce any marks from the where the supports were too -
No worries mate. I hope the MIL is ok. We all look at our models and sometimes only see what we did wrong, and I'm as guilty of it as anybody else. What we need to do is look for the parts we are happy with more often. For example, when i look at this one all i see are the flaws (and they are many including poor paint)

are you deliberatelly being antagonistic to other members? many of your recent posts have not been in the spirit we try to have here and some seem more like trolling. go back and read the forum rules please. we can place you on moderation if it continues

if your printing it yourself you can usually resize in your slicer. just measure the size of the part you are replacing and transfer them to the new part. if they are scaled correctly they should fit and if not you can adjust the next print. your biggest issue might be the profile shape as thats where any discrepancies will show up most but adding some depth to it can give you extra materiel to reshape with files and sandpaper

Dumb median design - anyone else see this?

Leith walk in edinburgh is laid out awfully. It has a pavement (sidewalk to you guys) with a cycle lane in the middle of the footpath, then the bus stops on the gap between the cycle lane and the road/tramway which you have to cross to catch a bus, then to catch a tram you have to stand in the middle of the road, and the same on the other side. There is no signage to say who has right of way, every junction now crosses over the stupidly designed pavement and the cycle lane has no speed limit so just eats and those guys are doing 40 and 50mph through an area full of tourists that are used to common sense streets, not this mess that seems to have been designed by a drunken toddler with anger issues. At some points of the street you have to cross 4 different roads just to cross one road because its so badly laid out. -
Not new here just can't get back on my old account.

It would be Dave that fixes your account. If you send him a pm with your old account name and new one he can do some computer wizardry and make the 2 accounts into one. -
Just home from AC/DC and it was great. They played for over 2 hours and included a couple of songs they only play in scotland (the Young brothers and original singer bon scott were from scotland before emmigrating to the Australia) and we have a statue of Bon Scott in a Dumfrieshire town. I dont think Angus ever stopped playing apart from swapping guitars. If you get the chance take it as they wont be touring again I believe

while wandering around edinburgh yesterday i found a small railway shop with some models. the kits were expensive (near double the price of the same kits i can get locally so i bought some woodland scenics briar patch to add to my dioramas. i only realised today i'm flying so will have to go through security and its looks very like a decent amount of weed so i'm going to get searched. the citadel spray stick i bought will also look suspicious on the scanners (i know this because i was janitor at my local airport for a while so i know what they can see on their screens) I also got some more brushes and a set of paintmarkers from "the works" so if you are in the uk i'd have a look as 10 good brushes are only £3 and they are good quality. i think i'll go to the airport fairly early the morn, lol pics from the internet, my box of the plantlife is packed full compared to this one
