Repainting a Diecast 1:18
Hemified71 replied to GeeTeePee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
GTP... I'm actually in the process of stripping/re-painting a 1:24 2013 Viper. I've done this kinda stuff before & it's pretty easy. I used ordinary paint stripper to strip off the baked on paint... Cleaned up the body/parts... Sanded back with 600-1000 (wet ) then used some etch-primer to seal it up... Because I have it in my paint stash, I'll be using 2Pk Urethane Clear coat... IMO the best clear-coating for any model... Metal or plastic. Try your local auto paint shop or maybe you have a mate that has some? Cheers -
I think you'll be fine with 800-1000 grit ( wet or dry, wet being the better alternative ?) The issue, BEFORE, you start/add colour coats, would be to seal your final primer coats, after sanding ) From experience, putties, any type really, tend to shrink over time & in some cases become visible through the colour coats, especially true for "ghosting"... Areas where mold lines or emblems etc have been sanded off. Sealing will ensure that none of these problems will become visible through your colour coats, especially if you're using any type of automotive paints ( Duplicolor etc ) Hope this helps ??

Curved Masking Tape
Hemified71 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't say I wouldn't but Martinfan has already mentioned HLJ has none in stock. I'm not worried about the actual price of the tape more so the price they want to charge to ship/post or Internationally!! -
Curved Masking Tape

I wish it was that cheap! There's 2-3 sellers on eBay right now asking for between $20-31us per roll! Yes just 1 roll! The cheapest seller wants nearly $30au to ship it!! The other 2 want $30-40us to ship to Australia??!! WTF!? -
Not really, no. They're for lexan bodies not really meant for resin or plastic ( kits ) .

TDR 3D Parts Pictures
Hemified71 replied to Quick GMC's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hi guys, this seems like the right place to ask, as you guys seem to know quite a bit about all this 3D scanning/making stuff & this Shapeways company? I'm not overly familiar myself & I'm not able to do any of this stuff for myself, so I'm hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction...? I'm really keen on getting some custom ( pro-touring styled ) wheels made in 1/24-1/25 scale for some future projects. There are at least 4-5 designs I'm keen on & would like them in a series of different sizes, 19/20/21 & possibly 22' inch. Getting at least 1 set each in all sizes. I'd like to know who would be able to do the scanning? Or is it programming? That I can then have made by Shapeways. I'd also like to know, roughly, how much it would cost per set? Also I have a friend that would be able to mold/cast them in resin, so is it possible to use the 3D sets to cast in resin, if I wanted more sets? Any & all help , regarding my query, would be very much appreciated ?? Thanks guys, Rod
