Getting closer. I still need to hinge the hood, attach the bumper, add mirrors, cab lights, horns, the stack, and a few hoses.

I have had good success with a polishing kit which consists of different grades of sandpaper up to 12000 grit.

Looks like the real thing!

I usually try to replicate the real thing. Here you can see the hinge assembly. In the second photo you can see the rear cab rests. If you are using the big grille, you may have more trouble getting it to tilt in scale due to clearance. If you are going to make it non-tilt, the front mount isn’t going to be seen, so it doesn’t matter much. I use Evergreen and Plastruct. I also use brass and aluminum tube as well as doll house hinges for tilting sometimes.

This is another actual truck from my past. It is going to be a model of a truck that I knocked down a wash shed with. That’s right, I could of been on bonehead truckers. This was many years ago, but I will tell the story when this one makes it to the Under Glass section. This was about an 85 model with a twin stick 6 speed. This model will only be a close representation, as I won’t be making the cab air ride, and I am building only from memory. So far, I have shortened the wheelbase. Added 2 hole Budds and resin rubber tires. A wet line kit is being added. Model Car Garage grill will be on this one. I think that the tanks were from A.I.T.M.. The cab and hood are sitting on the frame for mock up.

Excellent work on these! Looks great! I like the wheel upgrade on the Western Star. The hoods don’t fit great on the 1:1 Road Bosses either. They advertised the hood as having limited contact points to the cab to cut down on vibration. A great way to market hoods that don’t fit too well.?

Wow! And I thought that the Peterbilt looked amazing! This thing is incredible. The cab work is excellent!! Your body work looks perfect! I really like the paint scheme! The undercab insulation is a nice touch! This is one of the best looking Freightliners that I have seen! Excellent work!

Man that is one beautiful rig! I like your a/c unit! I like your modifications to the Cat as well. I have one of those coolers that think that I am going to put on a B motor. Your paint scheme looks amazing. The grill and the work around the headlights go along way in making this one look real. Excellent work all around.

I agree 100% He said that he was riding the brakes continuously to hold the car back because it wouldn’t idle down. That is why they were smelling them. He overheated the brakes and lost pedal. All of the brake inspections in the world and most upgrades wouldn’t have helped in this instance. That is why I like a good old fashioned cable operated emergency brake. Fixing the sticky throttle however would have went a long way.
