old-hermit replied to Yad''s topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Hey Yad, those little guys talking in your head all the time don't distract you from building ? Heh Heh Heh. That bike is amazing. Excellent workmanship. -
Yes, ANOTHER Chopper

Neat, Clean, Good looking build. -
A little easier than plasticene is "Backer Rod" It is a tubular foam weather stripping and is sold at Lowe's and most home improvement stores. It comes in various sizes and will fit most large scale car and bike tires. 20 feet for about $5.00.

Saw some pics of this finished at NNL east 07 and just wanted to let you know you did a great job on it. -
Those are very similar to some RC wheels I've seen. Check the net or your local RC store and if you find a similar set all you will probably have to do is alter the center to match the Vette. A lot easier than creating a whole new wheel. I'm not sure but I think the 22mm will fit most 1/8th kit tires.

Looking great so far. You have got to tell me where you got the coffee cup and fishing pole.

Excelent work Harry. I like the subtle little changes you've done to all three, especially the Deuce.

This started as a Revell 1/8th California Hiway Patrol kit. I converted the frame into a ridgid, bent round aluminum tube for exhaust pipes, extended the kit front end, borrowed some parts from the junk box and turned it into an early 70's style chopper. Thanks for looking. Build pics here. http://s39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/old...torcycles/Loco/

Working Rear Shocks and Driveshaft with articulated U-joints
old-hermit replied to Scale-Master's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have been following this build silently but it's time to express my sheer amazement with your skill and talent. You have created a miniture car so close to real it is truly one of a kind. Kudo's on your work and look forward to seeing more. -
Excellent work and detail on the Camaro Craig. Plus great photos. Looks real.

Thanks Ken. I have the SD and sedan from Galaxie but have never opened them. Your build up of the 48 is neat. -

Looking good so far Big truck. I love SD's also. Built one awhile back using a resin rear half and the AMT Fleetline kit. Went for the "Gasser" look. -
R/M 1/12 H-D "Rat Bike"
old-hermit replied to k357's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Good looking build k357. I'm glad they are starting to issue some bikes even in 1/12. Keep looking on evil bay. Some glue bombs and parts lots come up every so often that you can get reasonable. -
This is a parts box, scratch and resin build. I cut the top frame rail from the steering head to the back axle out of an old Revell kit then replaced it with a scratch built stock section. The belt drive is scratch built and reproduced in resin with a real ribbed rubber belt. The pipes are aluminum tube with flared ends. The springer front end works. I robbed it from a diecast, disassembled it, stripped the disk brakes off, painted it and adapted a 19 inch kit wheel. I took a front fender from a 1/8 Triumph, split it down the middle and widened it to cover the rear wheel. The 3.5 gallon gas tanks and jockey top tranny are modified repops in resin I made myself. The clutch pedal is a modified kit piece and the chain and shifter are all scratch built with a horned skull shift knob I robbed from one of my son's games. The seat is also scratch built. Hope you like it.

I hate to burst yall's bubble but the "Fly Wheels" and the other sets of 4 are 1/10th scale. The are a close fit to the old Lindberg 1/8th tires but still a little loose. The wheels on my Chopped Deuce (in this forum) are the Rally wheels with Lindberg slicks on the rear and the original tires on the front. You can really tell the difference when you compare them side by side with any of the new 1/8th kit tires.
