  1. Very clean build Harry. A couple of questions. I notice the dash only has two gauges and some custom switches. I'm working on one of the original kits and it has four gauges. Did the repop come like that or did you make a new dash ? Also how did you yellow the headers or is that just shadowing in the pic. I stole a seat from the new Lindy Tall T because the kit seat just doesn't cut it.
  2. Decided a diaphram fuel pump just wouldn't cut it so I made a high volume, belt driven one out of old kit parts.
  3. US Constitution amendment 10 The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. Excuse me Harry, Abe Lincoln owned slaves as did most wealthy Northeners. Emancipation Proclamation Main articles: Abraham Lincoln on slavery and Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln met with his cabinet for the first reading of the Emancipation Proclamation draft on July 22, 1862. L-R: Edwin M. Stanton, Salmon P. Chase, Abraham Lincoln, Gideon Welles, Caleb B. Smith, William H. Seward, Montgomery Blair and Edward BatesIn July 1862, Congress moved to free the slaves by passing the Second Confiscation Act. The goal was to weaken the rebellion, which was led and controlled by slave owners. While it did not abolish the legal institution of slavery (the Thirteenth Amendment did that), the Act showed that Lincoln had the support of Congress in liberating slaves owned by rebels. This new law was implemented with Lincoln's "Emancipation Proclamation." Lincoln is well known for ending slavery in the United States. In 1861 – 1862, however, he made it clear that the North was fighting the war to preserve the Union, not to abolish slavery. Freeing the slaves became, in late 1862, a war measure to weaken the rebellion by destroying the economic base of its leadership class. Abolitionists criticized Lincoln for his sluggishness over slavery per se, but on August 22, 1862, Lincoln explained: “ I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." ... My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.[22] †The Emancipation Proclamation, announced on September 22 and put into effect on January 1, 1863, freed slaves in territories not under Union control. As Union armies advanced south, more slaves were liberated until all of them in Confederate hands (over three million) were freed. Lincoln later said: "I never, in my life, felt more certain that I was doing right, than I do in signing this paper." The proclamation made the abolition of slavery in the rebel states an official war goal. Lincoln then threw his energies into passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to permanently abolish slavery throughout the nation.[23] In September 1862, thirteen northern governors met in Altoona, Pennsylvania, at the Loyal War Governors' Conference to discuss the Proclamation and Union war effort. In the end, the state executives fully supported the president's Proclamation and also suggested the removal of General George B. McClellan as commander of the Union's Army of the Potomac.[24] For some time, Lincoln continued earlier plans to set up colonies for the newly freed slaves. He commented favorably on colonization in the Emancipation Proclamation, but all attempts at such a massive undertaking failed. As Frederick Douglass observed, Lincoln was, "The first great man that I talked with in the United States freely who in no single instance reminded me of the difference between himself and myself, of the difference of color."[25] Y'all will be glad to hear that this is my last post on the subject. Arguing is like wrestling with a pig in the mud. Sooner or later you realise the pig enjoys it.
  4. No resentment Harry. Most people, even in the South don't know or care about history. That's why I put a link to fact's. The seeds of Southern secession were planted in the 1790's when the Union put tariffs on cotton. It wasn't about slavery, it was about a government telling it's citizens what they could and could not do in their own state. That is spelled out specifically in the Constitution. If you want to talk about Constitutional law I can go there to. I am a born & bred Southener who knows the history of the "War of Northern agression. What the Union did before, during & after the war was wrong on so many levels. Kinda like what's happening right now.
  5. History has a tendancy to be muddied over time. The flag everybody has an obsession with was never used as a national flag of the Confederacy. There are still VERY strong feelings in the South over this issue. And don't forget, the history books are written by the victors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_...ates_of_America http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederate_S...es.27_rights.22
  6. The larger scales scream for more detail than is available so scratch building and imagination are a must. Fine job on the dio Mr 1/16.
  7. Try this Junkman www.largescalemodeler.com You will have to join the site to access the "For Sale" section.
  8. Good looking builds for streight out of the box. I built the drag car when I was a kid (still have it) but it doesn't look any where near as good as yours.
  9. Got some plumbing & wiring done today.
  10. Y'all have already seen the Chevy six and a mock up of the short rail I'm building so here's an update. I got the motor bolted in place and the rolling chassis done. Also got the fuel injection / headers done.
  11. Found some more great stuff for my "Never Ending Diorama". First, every garage needs a trash can. Got this at a Georgia WM landfill. Then I got some beer cans & whiskey bottles today. Gonna scatter them around the trash can. The antique glass door knobs will be great shift knobs.
  12. Here's a question for you Aaron, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc will sell 20,000 resin gnomes in a weekend, ya think our hobby will support sale's of that many resin car body's or part's ?
  13. Good job RatRod, that 1/9 Harley seat look's like it was made for it. I've built several of these kits and they are definately a pain in the butt. Here's a couple I did several years ago.
  14. My sons are into the "Warhammer" game and constantly pilfer my CA glue and paint to construct their figures.
  15. The gap is not in technology, it's in money and profit margin. While most resin casters use rubber molds and pressure pots the big boys use steel molds and plastic injection. It costs thousands of dollars to create one injection steel mold where you can create a rubber mold for less than $100.00.
  16. I built the Revell kit a few years ago to display my cars. It's box stock with a KW COE. Any combination vehicle (truck / trailer) in excess of 24000 pounds requires a class A commercial drivers licence.
  17. That is the ugliest, most horrible looking, rolling piece of junk I think I have ever seen. Excellent work Keith, you've gone above and beyond on this one. I love it !!!!!!!!!!
  18. Close up's, detail shots, my eyes are old. Look's great from here.
  19. Got a little side tracked and started an old timey short rail. Using the Lindy Exterminator kit as a starting point. I shortened the frame 4.5 inches and mocked it up with the six. I'll post a new thread when I get a little further along. Frame is done with new motor mounts for the six.
  20. How about some more pics of that 1/12th 57 Steef. That thing look's good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never mind, I just checked out your gallery. Impressive work.
  21. Wrong direction Junkman. Ya gotta look up for inspiration. It's kinda like the old joke about the stone carvers elephant, "I just take a big block of stone and remove everything that doesn't look like an elephant".
  22. Where's my sun glasses. Excellent detail and very clean, crisp build.
  23. If you have some time and want to do a little research start here. http://www.draglist.com/sitemap.htm The kit decal sheet has AA/D with B,C options depending on which version you build, single engine - blown or carbed, dual engine - blown or carbed etc...
  24. A very simple answer, Greed & Lawyers. There were more law school graduates in the last few years than ANY other profession. What does that tell you ?
  25. I've built several variations of that kit and it is great. As you said there are so many versions possible plus all the leftovers you can kit bash with. With a little scratch building the possibilities are endless. Here are my builds based on the Exterminator kit. Box Stock Long FED Twin flattie F/C
