jeffdeoranut replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
just an idea im bouncing around in the brain and was hoping someone hear had already tried it. so plan b is: has anyone used montana cans crackle spray paint? -
in my perfect world im gonna have a multihued crackle effect paint job on one of my projects. the only "crackle" paint I can find is sold in the uk and cannot b shipped to us...I found crackle nail polish and I think it would give me the look I want. here goes with questions: 1-can I spray nail polish through the preval paint system? (ive used an airbrush a little but am far from comfortable with it) 2-I understand to treat nail polish like its lacquer..good primer and thin it bout 50/50 with lacquer thinner, finish with clear lacquer...anything else I need to know? 3-has anybody used the crackle nail polish?

chopping top on superbird?
jeffdeoranut replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
how do you handle the a pillars on a superbird? my eyes may b wrong but it looks to me as if on the chevelle you cut a horizontal slice out of the c pillars and cut a slice off the bottom of the a pillars thereby lowering the roof...any chance of the stock windshield still working on the bird? -

question for yall super detailers...what size miniature bolt do yall use for wheel studs and what size nut? and where to get them? ive found several sources for these but when I scale them up into 0ne to one I get lost. is there a source for predrilled t fittings? I got some that were white metal, no holes and have no idea how to attach lines to them w/o making a glue mess. thanks

I too would not support a thief but I gotta think that if a part was no longer offered by company A that I would but this part from someone else if they recast the original part...if co A was concerned about this they shouldn't have discontinued the part. the same as us as individuals casting copies of kit parts for our use...there have been many "how tos" regarding this posted here and on other websites. anybody know what the royalty payment for revell to produce a new Camaro kit for example? it couldn't be a huge number or revel couldn't afford to pay it as according to research it cost at least 150,000 bucks to physically produce new kit-tooling and mfg costs, etc. kind of a rant...sorry...in the past I lobbied with Shelby motorsports over a 5 year period to somehow get a 1/25 full detail kit of the Shelby Daytona coupe in production. revell said they would love too but that Shelby just wanted tooooo much money. maybe im naïve but aren't model kits a form of advertisement for the car mfgs...how many of us built a kit as a child and said"im gonna own a real one when im grown?"

I don't know who owns licensing rights to cheetah, but that is y there have been no 1/25 full detail kits of the cobra coupe...I spent some time contacting mfgs several years ago and was told that they would love to make that kit but Shelby wanted too much $$ for licensing rights. I then contacted Shelby enterprises and they said they had not been approached by the mfgs and would allow kit to b made if the MONEY was right-not one word about the accuracy or fidelity of kit...it ALWAYS comes down to the money especially with Shelby enterprises.

I did consider sectioning body but I liked the slab look in this case...lol. as this was first 50's custom I wanted to do something different.may build a sectioned version or one with severe chop. my tastes never parallel popular design, ie I cant stand the last 4 or 5 "foose" customs but love full custom garage...go figure

2nd onefinished this year. 50 ford convertible with 65 custom gto roof, 07 mustang drivetrain, decals from 59 elky...has many flaws but I did learn how NOT to attach a roof to another kit....lol, albeit the hard way.hood and trunk reshaped to shorter height. made the taillite bezels n lenses..as with most of my builds the design is way better than the execution...this one is definitely a 15 footer. when using ca kicker it ran onto windshield anf fogged it pretty bad but I'm not gonna take it apart to fix...on to the next one. bty feel free to critique the design. u can point out execution flaws if u like but I'm aware that there r more than a few. thanks I think I shudda dropped trunk some more...

Historic Racing Miniatures Cobra Daytona Coupe
jeffdeoranut replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
twice in the last 15 years I have attempted to organize a write in campaign on another board to the kit mfg's and there just wasn't that much interest-I was shocked.after the last attempt(about 7 years ago) I decided to contact all the domestic mfg's. revell, round 2(not sure what their corporate name was at the time) and lindberg had basically the same story: they would love to do the Shelby Daytona coupe as a full detail kit in 1/25 but Shelby licensing had sold rights to produce kits by cobra chassis numbers and that he daytonas were not available. so I contacted Shelby licensing and after a lot of beating around the bush basically said they were willing to sell rights to produce this kit in 1/25 scale but that they wanted to get paid well. just my personal opinion and I do understand Shelby should get paid for use of his work, come on...how many new mustangs or other real cars for that matter have we seen them slap a Shelby sticker or two on a car and jack up the price 15 grand? I finally gave up and acquired a g-s 1/24 curbside Daytona kit for 102 bucks on evil bay along with a 289 engine and plan to make it as close to full detail as I can..the g-s kit is not as accurate as the others and the chassis construction will b a challenge but it wil b good enough for me.
