Grrr... Seriously, Flies?
redneckrigger replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey, it could be worse.................they COULD have decided to take a journey across the hood, up the A pillar, over the roof, down the C pillar, and finally giving up the ghost half way down the trunk lid! Ask me how I know...............had it happen many times on 1:1 cars before I had a super spray booth. One or two suicides in single spots can be handled! -
Absolutely fantastic sorting of parts! WOW! I keep my parts sorted by categories, but no where near as well as you. I keep all auto intakes , heads, engine blocks, interiors, chrome trim, radiators, firewalls, chassis, suspension/driveline, and pretty much the same way with large truck parts, though with the trucks I keep tote boxes full of specific make frames and bodies and associated parts separate from each other. As far as wheels, all car wheels together, and all truck wheels together. Tires go all by car or truck, and reside in about 4 full pillow cases! At least I know which b ox to go to to find that one of a kind part, though I often never find it! All in all, not counting my very large cache of resin, my parts for all cars and trucks, would fill about 16 thirty gallon storage totes. But I really LIKE your system!

Extremely nice build.......great colors! -
After a summer off doing outside stuff, back at it again.........................got the suspension fitted, from Moluminum. Final fitted the deck and finished the deck extensions in front of the frontmost rear axle. Also repaired the flip down ramp on the front that somehow became detached along the way. Next up is hydraulic piping for the gooseneck and the stinger. Also have to do the brake piping. And......................gotta get the old B815 out of the shop and done as well! One step at a time!

This seems appropriate
redneckrigger replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Been there, done that...............used to restore cars for myself, working on my own cars..........had a blast, and being a perfectionist. Then started doing work when others asked me to. Then got busy so hired couple guys to work for me. Ended up with a full service collision and restoration shop, two tow trucks and also a full mechanical service garage and a payroll of 12 people, and no time, or desire to work on my own stuff any more. Got fed up one day, closed the shop, sold the spray booth, the frame rack, the tow trucks, the lift, the shop machinery and tools, laid everyone off, and sold all of my cars except one Mustang and one old truck. And still now, 20 years later, never finished fixing my own two remaining vehicles, getting only the car to the point of being a driver, and loving it just right there. And have refound model building, for myself, and no one else. I build stuff that may not have ever existed, but COULD have. And I only have my worst critic to satisfy..................me! -

News of Revell molding preparing in US

Yes there are other hobbies where people whine LOUDLY about prices......................I own a gun shop. Listening to people whine about "you want WHAT for that gun??!! The last one of those I bought cost me 79 bucks!!! When was that? Well, I bought three of them for that in 1967, and you want $229 for them now???!!!" And it's even worse when the guy who bought a new Super Blaster 45 from you a year ago comes back in to sell it back to you and demands to make money on it.................and complains when you won't pay him $100 more than he paid for it, even when you still sell new ones for the same price he bought his for. They think guns have markups like jewelry...................ain't so! Not even close!!! It isn't a hobby problem...................................it's a PEOPLE problem! -
Perhaps if the Quote function was changed to just quote the text?? Just a suggestion.

1960's GMC V6 engine dimensions?
redneckrigger replied to Mblur05's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Get in touch with "landman", also known as Pat St-Martin, who is a builder here. He does tremendous truck builds, and is a superb scratch builder of engines. He did a complete build up post of a GMC V-12 engine a while back, which is two of the V-6's joined together in one block. He should have most of the info you need. Check it out on this link: -

Brings back memories of a very similar truck I used to have, only difference is mine had the flip nose and a 24 foot roll back equipment body. BEAUTIFUL build! -

Thanks Warren, they truly do make great stuff. And, it is indicative of a great businessman to be concerned when he receives criticism, but I hope he discounts the sources it is coming from. In this day and age when it almost seems a sport to attack people from the annonymity of a computer, way too many good businesses get attacked, and unjustly so.

One of the best makers of resin parts for all of our builds, be they American, European, or Australian, has been being attacked on social media pages for the times it has been taking to get their items delivered. As they are in Australia, they are subject to all of the slowness and other problems from Australia Post, problems that are beyond imaginable. Shipping, as with ANY aftermarket supplier, or internet seller, is out of the control of the vendor, but there are always those keyboard commandos who attack vendors over things they cannot control. They are considering closing their shop, and that is going to be a huge loss for the entire hobby of truck building. Please take a moment to contact them through their website, https://www.auslowe.com.au/ or message them through Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/auslowe/ and give them a word of encouragement. As we all know, doing resin bits is an art, and is not one that can be done in a minute and have the item, which was made to order, on it's way within the hour, though there are those who think that way, believing that they are the ONLY customer, and therefore should have their order shipped within seconds of receipt. I use resin parts from many suppliers, KFS, AITM, Auslowe, Double Take, Moluminum, Gary Wallace, and several others, and all of them are superb. Losing just ONE will make a a huge hole in our hobby. Sure, there are those who sell resin bits who take your money and then do not deliver in a timely manner, but those are the fly by nighters, and they rank in the same low place as those customers who use social media as a weapon to attack those GOOD companies such as Auslowe. Auslowe has been in business for 25 years and needs our support. Please lend a hand!!!
