Looks like you're off to a great start still! Since you are a new modeler, and difficulties find us all, remember this: there is NO such thing as a perfect model, but the best modeler is the one who can hide, or distract ones eyes from mistakes, IMO.

Very cool! well done, and love the colors! If it were me, I would do all Alclad, or Spaz Stix Ultimate mirror chrome, because none of the different types of chrome tend to match. Even if my kits have excellent chrome, I strip all of it and redo it with Spaz Stix chrome.

You are right about that paint -looks like O.E.M rubber! I use latex gloves when building. aren't the cotton gloves slippery?
