WOW!!! This looks amazing. I'll be watching closely

I found it!!!! Automotive Touchup to the rescue again. Mercedes 396 Blue. I'm in love with this color and they got it perfect: Let the project begin!

Yuri, MAN, THAT IS STUNNING!!!! Gorgeous work!!!!!! Seriously one of the most beautiful models I've ever seen.

One word: BRAVO!!!!!!

I'm sticking with the kit 440... Have a pre-wired distributor I'll use and will look to add a vacuum hose or two. I'll also play with the firewall a little and try to add to it. The brake lines are nicely molded in, so I'll just paint those. I wish all AMT kits were this good. This and the 70 Camaro are the best I've built, but depending on the age of the tooling, they are so inconsistent.

As we are still setting into the new house back in our home city, I get little windows to accomplish things on my builds. I have 11 kits in the stash... This one was started when we still lived in AL... Haven't done much, but I've added a few pieces to the engine and today I got the clearcoat laid down. This is one of AMT's best kits and one of my favorite cars, so it's been on my to-do list forever. I'm taking my time with it, anyway, and don't have an actual workspace yet, so I can't get into detail painting yet, but thought I'd share the paint finish so far. I'm using Pontiac Verdoro Green spray from Automotive Touchup, and their spray gloss clear. Great stuff!!!! I'm also going with some AMT pad-printed Polyglas GTs and some resin dog dish caps I found on eBay. Also going with a two-tone interior. Flocked the carpet. Here is the pic I posted in AL with the layout of my scheme and color laid down, and two shots of the body now with 4 coats of clear. It isn't totally dry, so it may come down a little in gloss, but I also have not polished the clear yet. I did use a full polishing kit on the paint before moving to clear. This stuff is really nice... I highly recommend using them for a project. More to come soon.

I LOVE it!! This is one of the best Charger builds I've seen. The color combo is a little out there (I think that's what the paint chip comment was about.. Not chipped paint but too many color chips), but the late 60s were out there, so it fits. Great vinyl top, great details.... Just superb

I bought "the turd"... Possibly the worst model ever...the MPC 1972 Pontiac GTO. I've always loved the car anyway, but I asked my best friend what his dream car was, and that was his answer, so I'm going to try to make something out of it for him. I've seen the Reliable Resin body, and it comes with clear headlights and parking lenses, which is a plus, but the biggest problem with this kit isn't solved: the terrible, far too wide rear bumper doesn't seem to come with this kit. Has anyone made an accurate aftermarket rear bumper for this kit?? I feel like someone has to have done it. Thanks!!

Greetings everyone from St. Louis! I'm not even close to moved yet, from a "settled" standpoint, and our house is (unfortunately) still a construction zone, but I was able to escape for a little while this evening and do a little work on some plastic for the first time in two months. I had to try a Moebius kit, and my favorite was the new 65 Belvedere. I'm going total sleeper... Light turquoise body, light/dark turquoise interior, staying with the smaller tires and dog dish caps. Cleaned up everything that will be body color, primed, sanded the body and got my color coat laid down: It was great to get a chance to play a little. It will still be quite a while before we have our house fully functional, and because it wasn't when the moving van arrived with our stuff, everything we own was loaded into the basement of the house. We lived in two rental houses and a hotel since Memorial weekend, and still don't have a fully functional kitchen or bathroom in this house, but we are finally entering the home stretch, have the finish in sight and are beginning to feel at home since showing back up on the 4th of July. So, it will be a slow project.... But, I am also thrilled that when I am able to fully resume building, I have some fun projects on the horizon. While unable to build, I thought about what my next projects would be. Having built only muscle cars and NASCAR classic vehicles to this point, I wanted to change things up a little and focus on some great subjects that are also great kits I've always wanted to build. So, I have bought all of my paint and supplies to build a stash of 10 "holy grail" kits: 1. Fujimi Ferrari 250 GTO- metallic blue, white stripe, after the second one ever built 2. Tamiya Mercedes 300SL- Mercedes B396 blue, light gray interior 3. AMT 1971 Dodge Charger R/T- metallic green, green/black two-tone interior, dog dish hubcaps. I posted a pic of the body, seats, wheels and flocked floor before moving... Always wanted to build one of these. 4. Moebius 65 Belvedere 5. Revell Ferrari 458 Italia- baby blue, black interior with baby blue accents, custom ADV wheels which will be painted black 6. Revell Ferarri California (open)- white or gray, red anodized custom wheels, saddle interior 7. Revell 427 Cobra- street version, deep metallic green, black interior 8. Fujimi Ferarri F12- silver/red interior, black wheels 9. MPC 72 GTO- I'm taking on this pile of poop. It's my best friend's all-time favorite car, so I'll do one for him. I bought the 69 442 to use the chassis, will borrow heavily from the parts box, and I ordered aftermarket Pontiac rally wheels. His color choices were orange with black interior... I would have gone with something less obvious, but I'm doing it for him. It will be a fun challenge. 10. Revell Audi R8- this will be Darth Vader's personal ride... Black, carbon fiber "blades," black/gray interior, black wheels looking forward to really getting to build again, but I'll be taking my time with these, as they are awesome models and I'll need to do them justice. I'm sure as I get into some of them, I'll need help. Peace, everyone.

I need to call the Lifefix customer service department about a missing piece. Where's the bourbon on that parts tree????

Now, oops... hijacked the thread... Nick, this build is awesome!!! You're making me want to go buy another one and build it as the pace car. It's a great kit, but you really executed it perfectly.
-
When I posted my build of this kit back in January, I said the same thing. (didn't do mine as a pace car, just a Bahama blue 442) Now, I find any model people to be a little creepy.. they just can't look real enough to my eyes.. although I've seen people post diorama builds with mechanics or something that can make a model look amazing if you can't really see the faces of the figures. BUT... this particular figure of one of racing's most beautiful women in history is... how do I say it.... particularly off-putting. It's pre-painted in the box... maybe someone who does occasionally use figures with their builds could do this up better than the pre-painted version, but it frightened me. I put an extra rubber band on it and threw it away, but took it straight to the outside garbage...

Beautiful work!!! This another one of those "cusp" muscle cars that still had some performance and style, but have been mostly forgotten about. Really nice conversion work to make this into a great looking model.

If you could only choose ONE photo of any of your builds, wich would it be?

Hey everyone! I've got two kits I'll be starting once our relocation settles... the Fujimi Ferrari 250 GTO and the Tamiya Mercedes 300 SL. I'm really excited about both. On the SL, I looked through a bunch of research photos, and one caught my eye. I'm debating a little on using the interior color in these photos or going with plaid seat decals if I can find them, but the exterior color will be this: My question to everone out there is about this color. I haven't checked automotive touchup yet, so maybe they have the exact thing, but... I don't have an airbrush, so I can't mix... does anyone know of a good color match for this out of a can? THANKS!!

Ferrari 250 GTO - Fujimi or Revell Germany?
Kmb0319 replied to Kmb0319's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
THANK YOU ALL!!! I've been meaning to respond, but I'm packing up the house for our move and work has, of course, gone crazy right as I'm doing so. I got my emails that my 300 SL and Fujimi GTO have shipped... I'll be excited to get going on them once I'm settled into the new house. Matt, thanks for all your input and pics... I also looked up a few other Ferraris you've built, and you do some seriously nice work!! That Gunze GTO above is beautifully done, but I agree with you and others that the proportions are better on the Fujimi. The car above looks really good, but slightly "puffy" in its overall proportion... could just be that particular pic. Bill, that Italeri build is phenomenal!!! Gerry, thank you, and I'm completely jealous of your Ferrari stash. WOW!!! Especially the 250 SWB and 275 GTB... and you have multiple Hasegawa 250 TRs. That's the next one I have to try to track down and build. -
This is just AMAZING!!! Wow.. Count me blown away by this build!
-
That is just BA.... incredible job. Is that the Revell Torino for a chassis?

Ferrari 250 GTO - Fujimi or Revell Germany?
Kmb0319 replied to Kmb0319's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
OK, it's official.. I ordered the Fujimi kit and threw in the Tamiya 300SL for good measure... but one last question, especially for you, Gerry, since you've got all of these. I looked at a couple of the Enthusiast kits, but the ones I saw for sale were older versions asking much more $. But, it looked like they said 188 pcs as well. So, what's the difference between the enthusiast and sports car series kits if the piece counts are the same? And, you mention lots of detail parts available for the Fujimi kit.... what detail parts are available that you know of? THANKS! -
Ferrari 250 GTO - Fujimi or Revell Germany?
Kmb0319 replied to Kmb0319's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Awesome, guys... Thanks!! Sounds like my original inclination for the Fujimi kit was correct. I thought the Revell might be a newer tool, but I didn't realize they got the old Protar kit. Fujimi it is! -
To all of the experts out there, I need a little advice. I'm going to shift my building a little... I still want to add several more muscle cars to my collection, but I've gotten very interested in building some classic sports cars as well. I've absolutely got to build a Tamiya Mercedes 300 SL, but there's another "must have" that I need some advice on. I need to build a Ferrari 250 GTO, but I'm not sure which way to go. Back in my teens, I built a couple Fujimi kits, and have always considered them and Tamiya to be the best out there. I've seen the Fujimi Enthusiast kits on Ebay for around $40, and would happily jump that way. But, I also see the Revell Germany kits that say they have something like 250 parts. I've looked up build pics of both, and they both seem to be great models. SO... anybody got any good input for me as to which is the better way to go?? Thanks, everyone!

I purchased the orange one a year ago. It did have a lot of flash, but was also a nicely detailed piece that fit together nicely. Here's a couple pics of that exact kit: Others have done a far better job than me, but this one was the orange plastic version you're referring to.

As I mentioned in the WIP thread, this is my last build for a little while. After moving to AL for a job nine years ago from St. Louis, MO, a shift in my job is relocating us back to St. Louis. I had started the WIP thread really more documenting my last build before moving... I don't think anyone else really needs to see how one of these is built, and I realize I'm not "moving the needle" when it comes to technique... but I wasn't certain if I would finish before moving. Well, it made it. Nothing spectacular, but I did wire the engine, add battery cables, flocked the carpet . I had plans to use the smaller of the two AMT Goodyear Polyglas tires with some wheels from another kit... they looked great with this. But, this is another one of those Revell kits with the slightly larger diameter wheel/tire combo (while a nice standard size, they look a little too low profile for 60s muscle cars, to my eyes), so while the tire and wheel were great with the kit, the wheel backs were too large. The other issue was that those AMT pad-printed Goodyears are really soft and pliable, so it's difficult to get a wheel to "lock" into them firmly, and that larger wheel back was stretching them out of shape. So, I used the kit tires, a set of Cragars from the 67 GTX kit, painted them with Duplicolor Chrome to bring the shine down and then painted the centers to look like Torq thrusts. With the paint color, I'll call this one the gray ghost. Overall, this may be Revell's best kit. The last few I've built... 67 GTX, 69 Nova, 69 Shelby have all fit together beautifully, but this one is just beautifully engineered. Detail where it needs to be to enhance the model, but not overly complicated (If Revell gives me one more model with a two-piece rear view mirror, I might make the news.. it's hard enough to get those tiny things to sit upright without sliding and getting glue all over the paint, now let's make the mirror and its base separate pieces for frustration's sake!) But this kit also had markings in the body for where the door handles, mirror and wipers go that simplified placing them, had a better receptacle to place the interior rear view mirror... just little things that made this kit a pleasure. All for now.... next post will be my 71 Charger that will be built in our new home. On to a few pics: Interior before it went in: This was the Hemi kit... i'll build it and use it in another car, but I went with the 440 here. The rest... Took a couple outside.. liked this one.
