  7. had a mishap with the big dog the other day. he tried to get off his leash and I dropped him on my desk. this caused the right front steer to break off the axle rolling to the back of the desk ,and on the floor into no mans land where it will remain til I decide to move my desk. the right side fuel tank, battery box, and exhaust manifold also decided to bail out. the cab also broke away. (doh) ! in another post clayton mentioned how he uses the moebius wheels and I had a set of unused steers, so the lightbulb went off (although dim !) . I raided the spares box for a new axle and worked it to except the moebius wheels and tires. I did away with the steerable front axle, with all that resin the thing is heavy and the front end was too floppy. very pleased with the result. (thanks clayton !) the rear drive tires were replaced with r.o.g.'s from the w900 dump truck I had years ago. it needed a clean because it was getting dusty and I decided to take some shots of the engine when the cab goes back on not much will be seen.
  8. here is my version of freightliner of the late 60's. this is the original issue kit that I've had in the stash for many moons. I wanted to build a truck that I would spec out back in the day. something that would be capable of hauling double 40 footers up the hills on the mass pike into new York. that's where the DD V-12 comes in. parts were collected for a long time for this build. I started on the cab first with the headlite mod, then did the grille. the amt fit of the grille is not accurate it mounts in behind the opening giving it a recessed look. on the real truck it should stick out at the top. It was reworked to facilitate this. the cab was also cut down to a 78 inch bbc. the kit depicts a 86 inch bbc which was not available back then. the cab was painted summer 2014 using testors revving red over diamond dust silver.here is what it looks like now : here is the engine, it was originally from the amt bandag bandit kit. the exhaust manifolds are made from scratch. the front steer is a r.o.g. unit . I made axle u-bolts from wound guitar string and used aluminum tube for the tie rod. front wheels are from the amt/ertl transtar kit. after trying all of the tires I had in the stash, I settled on the older small goodyears as they seemed to look the best to me. for the rears wheels I used resin 5 holes from Spaulding. for the breather tubes 3/16 copperzinc automotive brake tubing was used. aluminum tube was used for a section of the driveshaft and some of the exhaust. the radiator and engine are pinned in and can be removed when the frame is ready for painting.
  9. I first cut the axle in half, then removed an even amount of material on both sides til I got the look I wanted , then glued them together. I then glued small pieces of styrene top and bottom front and back. I couldn't really get a good pic of this but you can see the middle and bottom pieces. hope this helps .
  10. I don't mean to degrade any of the other models on that contest as i' m sure they are all great builds, but in my opinion you have a winner here ! it's hard to tell that this is a model . I think that's what we all strive for as model builders.
  11. superb build ! it looks real , I also thought I was looking at a pic of real thing , just amazing !
