I taught high school auto shop for eight years in the late '70's early '80' . Then the district pulled the plug. No more industrial arts. No more vocational arts after all this is the computer age we were told. The three weeks off in the summer? That was with NO pay. It was little time to continue our education, not unlike doctors, no keeping up with new trends / classes, no pay raise. Doctors, lawyers have a great support system, secretary's, aids, receptionist, etc. No one does this for teachers. In the elementary grades most teachers supply materials out of their own pockets, pencils, paper, because the school districts don't and or wont . The parents try at the beginning of the year , yeah, all that "Back to school" hype you see in the stores, selling BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH the students really don't need. Walk a mile in my shoes.
