MPC Jeep CJ-5 Renegade
Albert Moore replied to Albert Moore's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thank you, Jim! Thank you, Curtis! Thanks, Mario! Thank you, David! This was originally going to be a box art build (hence the red body, black interior), but the Golden Hawk hood decal was absolutely horrid and wouldn't lay down for nothing. I heard that decal laugh at me when I applied setting solution to it as it didn't help in the least (it made the situation worse, actually). In the end I gave up on the GH decals and went with the Renegade theme instead. The kit decals reminded me of those old-school Monogram decals from the 80's and early 90's in regards to thickness and rigidity. At least the Renegade decals behaved. Thanks again, y'all! Cheers, Albert -
Hi all, this is my just-completed Round2 reissue of the MPC 1/25th scale Golden Hawk Jeep CJ-5, in Renegade livery. The was built 100% out of box, and painted with Upol Gloss Red acrylic enamel spray paint for the body, which was decanted and airbrushed, and then polished. The rest of parts were painted with Vallejo, Tamiya, AK Interactive, Citadel Game Colors, and craft acrylic paints. Thanks for looking. Cheer, Albert

Nice work, Steve. Those Monogram T-birds sure build up into some nice models. Cheers, Albert

Thank you, Carl and Randy! Cheers, Albert

This looks so legit that it's hard to believe it's a 'what-if' stock car. Nicely done! Cheers, Albert

Thank you, Bruce, I appreciate the kudos Thanks, Larry. Much appreciated! Thank you, Craig. It was a very cool car, and a fun model to paint decal. Thank you, Don. I had my concerns initially, especially with the front bumper/valance decal and the rear bumper/TV panel decal, but Micro-Sol worked as advertised with helping them conform to those irregular surfaces. Cheers, Albert

Thank you, Sean! The duct tape detail was an excuse to add more color to an already colorful car, plus it gave the model that race-ready vibe. As for the decals, I was able to apply them from the sheet without a clearcoat. Thank you, Chris! That was the appeal of this scheme- the whimsical nature of some of the graphics. ?

Hi All, This is my #36 M&M's Poncho driven by Ernie Irvan during the 1999 Winston Cup season. The only additions made were the Earnhardt bar on the roll cage, a cold air box style air cleaner, and a section of aluminum tubing for the fuel overflow tube. The finish is Testors Racing Colors #5 Kellogg's Yellow, and the decals were from Slixx. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Albert

Hello, yes, the numbers and Goodwrench logos were included on the decal sheet (sheet #1103). The only thing not included was the silver striping on the bottom. I used silver decal film for that. Thank you, Bob! Much appreciated. In regards to the how well the decals went down, no issues at all with application. Cheers, Albert

Hi All, Sharing an older build (from 1999). I built this NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series #3 Goodwrench Chevy Silverado, as driven by Mike Skinner in 1996/97. It's a Monogram kit (#52 AC Delco Chevy, IIRC) with Slixx decals. The body was painted in DupliColor gloss black, and the chassis/rollcage is Model Master Chevy Engine Red. Raided the roof camera fairing from a Ford Thunderbird stock car kit. Cheers, Albert

Thank you for the comments, ya'll! Here's one more, this time with a 1932 Ford three-window Deuce. Cheers, Albert

This is a really neat build. It has that excellent period look to it (where's my bell bottom corduroys and butterfly collar shirt?). Cheers, Albert

The floor is various tones of AK Interactive rust paints, stippled together. The Rub-N-Buff is a wax, but is bonds to the Metalizers without coming off as it stains the paint, more or less. Oh my. ? Cheers, Albert

That sir, is one rad looking model! Love every aspect of this build, from the muted color to the stance. Excellent work all around. ? Cheer, Albert -
Thank you for the kudos, everyone! I greatly appreciate them! It was a an excellent kit to work with, and one that I am glad to see has been reissued. Cheers, Albert. PS- Here are some in progress photos.

My take on the Revell 1/25 scale 1930 Ford Model A coupe. The finish was achieved by drybrushing Model Master metalizers over a gray primer (in multiple sessions to build up the finish). The tarnished look was done with copper Rub-N-Buff, applied with a sponge. A wash completed the effect. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Albert

Thank you all for the kind comments. Here are some photos of the subassemblies to show the weathering on them as well. Cheers, Albert -
Hi All, Here is my version of MPC's 1/25th 1978 Dodge D100. I built it as a Northern Michigan beater that's still earning her keep as firewood hauler. Craft paints were used for the main colors, which was applied over Vallejo rust paints. Chipping was achieved with the salt technique as well as sanding through the paint. Toothpicks and needles were used to simulate finer scratches. Thank you for looking. Cheers, Albert

Nicely done! The weathering is especially fantastic! Cheers, Albert -
Thanks, Brad! The rivets are decals and came from the Revell 1930 Model 'A' coupe decal sheet. Cheers, Albert
