I Drove a Maserati Yesterday
Joe Handley replied to cartpix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've talked to a couple Tesla owners, they love the things! Also have a friend who's driven one that belongs to a friend's sister and her husband......apparently 0-100mph comes up very quick, 100-120 however, takes some time. -

No kidding, my sister looked into getting a job in the library at the high school we went to and would have lost a couple dollars an hour from what she had been making at her current job at the time! -
'71 Hemi Cuda 'vert sells for $3.5M
Joe Handley replied to CJ1971's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, that may have hurt it when it was just a old musclecar, now that it's an uber rare collectable, that now would help add to the car's value since it makes it more rare than others. -
E98 is how they make denatured alcohol, basically they're adding some sort of denaturant to the pure ethanol so that it is unfit for human consumpsion. E98 is usually 2% gasoline to poison it enough to discourage people from breaking into tank cars, road transport tankers, storage tanks, ect and enjoying themselves a little corn liquor for free. I think it can be bought for automotive use too, but will require even more tuning and parts swapping (usually even bigger pump and injectors, maybe bigger fuel line to and from the tank) than E85 will due to the extra alcohol content if it's not a factory flex fuel car, and likely still need the bigger pump and injectors plus the additional tuning on a factory flex fueler.

I lose about 3-4 mpg, but tend to buy it when it's prices anywhere from $.80 a gallon less than premium (remember the octane thing) to $1.50 a gallon less than regular. $.80 a gallon less is the break even point for the Avenger/200, right now it's around $1.10 a gallon less at my preferred station. One big problem is that some stations or sellers to the station overcharge on the stuff, even when denatured (non-drinkable) ethanol is a good bit cheaper at the Chicago Board of Trade (which last I heard is also at a $1.10 less for e98 vs refined gasoline). I sometimes will by from Thorntons and Woodmans, but often they're running lousy spreads compared to Speedway.

Cheaper, cleaner, better power (the computer in my 200 bumps cam and ignition timing on it's own), prices aren't tied to what happens in the middle east.........

2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe
Joe Handley replied to jeffs396's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is a drool worthy successor to the E Type..........with the return of the Stingray name to the Corvette, I wonder if a rewrite of Deadman's Curve coming............. -
98 Octane?! Lucky buggers! The only way to get better than 93 here is to buy race gas (100 octane for $6.99/gallon by me) or E85 (up to 105 octane for $2.76/gallonat my preferred station)!

Will GM's problems ever end?
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wouldn't, that's the only way I could get insurance, from both a financial standpoint as well as a not being told to get lost by insurers. -

Bob has a point, wonder how many of those who were involved in this made it through the Bankrupcy/Bailout and still work there or got a nice fat retirement before all this went down........... -

No plastic 2014 Stingray kits? Could it be?
Joe Handley replied to Len Geisler's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Maybe they'll wait to release it in '15 due to quality issues like 30 years ago. ?! -

Honestly, I'd rather wait to see if Dynacorn comes out with a reproduction tub and build a SRT 392 powered clone of that, at least then I could drive it. -
Hey now Harry, with the way they've been going, that could really be next!

Hmmm, happened right as they went from Daimler to Cerberus and seems to stop as Fiat took over............ From what I've seen in the two '06 Mopars we've had, that's not a shock. -
I think it was same tooling that the MPC Shelby Charger came from, probably updated the tooling to the L-Body Charger spec before Shelby started playing with the real cars.

I haven't either, even from when they were still doing the chassis dyno tests on pre-OBD2 vehicles, other than they don't usually hire anybody who could give you an idea where to start looking for a repair. I've even had a difficult time finding cranky employees over the last nearly 20 years.

I remember that thread This visit went surprisingly quick considering the line and an initial estimate of a 26 minute wait (not something you want to see on a 90° day when you have a bad radiator!). I chose the line closest to the building's parking lot just in case I needed to get out of line because it was getting hot or something related to that before I made it to the building, as all I would have to do is drive across the grass to get there, plus I only ran the engine enough to move it forward in line before shutting it back off.

Been driving the 200, the Jeep is primarily a winter driver now. I had to take it out to get the emissions check taken care of then go buy a plate sticker for it since I kinda forgot it was to be purchased by June 1st, not August first and it had to get the green light from the "Air Team" before I could renew the plates. The truck's radiator is a bit iffy for spring weather, so I wasn't sure if the truck would overheat or not while running around today. I was actually more worried about that or having an issue with buying the plate sticker the day of the test than I was it passing it's emissions test! Apparently here in Illinois, if you get your emissions tested, the info goes straight to the DMV via computer and it it doesn't, there is a barcode on the passing paperwork that the DMV worker can scan to override any related blocks that might still exist in their system as proof that the vehicle is still legal from that standpoint and can continue to be registered!

Oh, and I figured out how I locked myself out of the Jeep with the key still in the ignition. The key was still in the column, but just far enough out of the ignition that it didn't trip that door lock failsafe..........luckily it happened only a couple miles from home and Dad has his own key to the truck.

The property management has been very good about taking care of this, I know we've made a stink a out it more than a few times just in the last 6 months and I'm kinda wondering who else in the strip mall has had this issue eith as quick as it's taken care of. Honestly, the guys from the tattoo shop from the other end of the building are better neighbors, we once had an alarm go off after we closed for the night and the former owners' daughter called them to check things out until her Mom got there, and they went in with her as protection in just case somebody had gotten in and was still in there when she went in.
