  1. Where did you find ethanol free here in Illinois? Oh, that's still not too bad, 93 octane with 10% ethanol around here is closer to $4.50/gal, probably would be even worse if it was E0. I paid $2.99 for E85 yesterday, seeing that price variation makes me wish my Sister could run the stuff in that new Challenger of her's too instead of just gas.
  2. I'm all for renewable fuels, that's part of why when I bought my 200 a couple years back that I made sure it had the Pentastar in it, as it was designed from the get go to run gas or E85.........plus that 283hp on pump regular is hard to argue against too I do wish it had been built with a compression ratio more along the lines of 12:1 or 13:1 vs the stock (and somewhat surprising for a motor that can still burn regular) 10:1 compression, that would have required the use of premium gasoline, making it a hard sell, but you could get better mileage with one of those CR's as well as even more power. I do see Brazil's sugar ethanol mentioned from time to time as an example of why or why not to use ethanol........the nots are usually pushed by oil industry backed groups. There is one major advantage that our corn ethanol has over their sugar ethanol though, with sugar ethanol, you lose all of the sugar to the distillation process, where with corn, you still get the oil, the fuel, and distiller's grains, the latter of which are then used for an animal feed that is supposed to be better for the critters since the starches that are used to make the ethanol can supposedly cause digestive problems in livestock. It would be nice to see more biodiesel too, and since used frier grease can be used, that could become an additional source of income for restaurant owners as well! I'm still not sure on CNG though, if you're going to be using it in a multi-fuel engine, I'd almost rather see it in vehicles from full sized trucks, vans, SUV's, and on to larger, usually diesel powered trucks and equipment since there is more room to put the separate fuel systems vs cars like the upcoming dual fuel Impala.....which if GM wanted to, they could probably build it to run E85 as well as CNG and gas, as could be done with any of the full sized otherwise gas fueled passenger trucks since flex fuel vehicles use one fuel system for those two fuels. While I don't know how it is with CNG, the only real downside I've run into by burning E85 in my 200 is that there aren't a huge number of stations that sell the stuff, especially at the magic $.80 or greater spread. IIRC, there's less than 3500 stations to buy it from nationwide vs 180k stations that sell at least gasoline, and most are here in the Midwest. It appears that one of my neighbors has a mid-late 90's C1500 Chevy that is CNG, next we're both out of our houses at the same time, I'll have to stop by and ask him where he has to go to feed it.
  3. Theoretically, it would be possible in either situation since the affected vehicles were drive by wire, although I read of a man who ended up in jail on 2-3 counts of vehicular manslaughter after his mid-late 90's Camry took off up an exit ramp when he went to stop and rammed the car ahead of it so hard it killed two of the three in the car and the third died a few years later from the complications of her injuries. He insisted he was doing everything in his power to stop the car (don't think he thought of neutral though), but it kept going until the crash. After the more recent issues happened, his case was looked at a second time, with with the blessing of the victim's familys too, and there had apparently been issues with the early electronic cruise control systems from them causing this to happen a d he was let out of jail, I just can't remember if he was retried with the newer evidence or if the judge found that there was enough to make his conviction questionable in some way.
  4. I stopped at a 7-11 on the way home from and followed a Yukon Denali XL (tarted up Suburban) into their lot, and the soccermom driving that great pearl white whale swung it into the spot next to the handicap spot.........and had 1 foot of the entire driverside over the line and in the handicap spot, then ran it to get a bag of ice with it sitting there! She ended up running back to get something else in as I left, and the only reason it was almost fully in the regular spot by the is that she remembered what ever it was before getting too far out of it!
  5. I think it might have been something like that Harry, and I think Al Gore voted to spend the money on it.........
  6. A Polar Lights Mystery Machine model with the glow in the dark stickers for the next time my Sister babysits her friend's little boy who happens to be infatuated with Scooby Doo, and will sit where ever it's playing and watch it.
  7. You guys ever hear about some town here in Illinois that has all the gas stations collude on raising the prices, and then the mayor disovered what they were up to he started asking why and was told something to the effect of, "Because we can." ? Apparently he was so pissed by that that he got in touch with the local media sources and through them told everybody in town what was going on and buy gas in neighboring cities! Apparently these station owners were not amused, but it forced them to lower their prices!
  8. I see you failed to see my sarchasm in that post too....
  9. Priced popped over $4.00/gal here, unfortunetly, Speedway bumped their E85 to $3.09 to match their regular at $4.09....................
  10. IIRC, when it comes to tailpipe emissions vs stack emissions, even though the stacks put out nasty stuff, they are supposedly less polluting when charging fleets of EV's than the equivalent number of similar gas powered cars powered cars. Lithium batteries are much better than the Nickel or Lead based batteries in not only weight and performance (voltage and amperage), but tend to be cleaner to manufacture and just as easy to recycle. Not too worried about the whole battery fire thing like Tesla had recently since a similar situation would be far worse for the typical car.
  11. Better crank up the Hate Jim, we had Portillo's for dinner tonight too
  12. Here's your reason for the jump Craig............... https://news.yahoo.com/explosion-tanker-off-japan-coast-coastguard-reports-024531101.html;_ylt=ApX.vq4LZtGXNbiWx76_kz2xK2RH
  13. For it to make sense, it has to be $.80/gal or better less than regular, which is breaking even with the mileage loss. I usually go by what the closer stations' prices are vs that station's are. With the station I buy from, even if they're internally $1/gal less, their gas prices can be enough that it would be cheap enough compared to by home or work for me to buy gas for my Jeep there too. At one point last summer, it was anywhere from $1/gal to $1.50/gal less than regular at that station since gas was up well over $4/gal, and the stations in St. Charles, Geneva, and West Chicago that were anywhere from $.05-$.30/gal more for just gas. One thing myself and others with Pentastar equipped Mopars is that these little motors like their booze a whole lot and are willing to push their personal "spread limit" to cover premium as well as regular. Dad is kinda bummed the VVT Hemi in my Sister's new Challenger isn't flex fuel too, not only from a fuel cost standpoint (currently $1.40/gal spread vs Premium at the same station), but from a power and performance standpoint too!
  14. I just checked the Speedway I buy E85 from after seeing Craigs post, they just dropped their prices with E85 leading the way at $2.78/gal and regular following at $3.78/gal!
  15. Is that bottom like what it cures, or what you'll leave the tour site with?
  16. Dang, those wheels aren't quite generic enough!
  17. Thanks, I'll have to take a look, think we have one of those kits at work! These wheels look just enough like a TT to invoke their spirit, but not enough to be called them or Bullitt wheels......or maybe not to have to pay licensing fees to the correct parties..........
  18. Didn't one of the stunt cars survive too Steven? I Seem to remember seeing an article or something about some guy who found a well worn red '57 Plymouth that looked a whole lot like the movie cars and had deep tinted windows, gutted interiors, roll bar, racing seat, ect and not only bought it, but has saved it and I believe still owns it.
  19. Picked up a can of Testors Purple-Licious lacquer to go with that Challenger kit, now I just have to find more accurate rims (the kit comes with "Cragars", the 1/1 came with "Torque Thrusts"), a T-Handle shifter, and maybe the newer style wheel.
  20. Now where is that pesky Like button when you need it.........
  21. I like that idea Harry, the tazer portion in particular!
  22. Looks great, amd fantaetic work on the 258 too!
  23. That's some of the reasons I like using them, even when using a check like today (light on cash, still neded to fill my 200 by then too), spent enough time running one that it's just faster for me to ring myself out.
  24. Picked this up in kit form today, for obvious reasons Now I just need to pick up some Testors Purple-Licious and dig up the rest of my paints.
