World's fastest RC car
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well Peter,my only concern is, after having people come in with destroyed trucks from racing with friends while working on a keg or somebody automaticly buying one for a child because "They're a smart kid" or have considered a Radio Shack r/c sufficent experiance so thet think they can automaticly operate a hobby grade car that runs 50mph or more. We've already talked at work about unlocking the car's full potential for iDeviceless customers and have so far decided against doing so for liability reasons.....plus we all own Android phones anyway. -
World's fastest RC car

It should have a pretty strong radio for that kind of performance and will likely be pretty comparable to airplane radios. As a hobby shop employee, this thing kinda scares me, not so much for the tech (although being forced to use an iDevice is annoying) or the performance as is the thought of how responsible some of the prospective customers might be with it. Only place I would feel comfortable running it would be at Chicagoland Speedway, Route 66, Byron Dragstrip, or with the way things are going there, The Main Street Commons (yes, that is the strip mall my shop just moved out of and yes it's getting that dead there too) with the way it'll run. -
He must have used the stuff for R/C bodies since it painted on the inside. Looks like it goves a better shine than the canned Alclad R/C stuff too, although I found Pactra's backing black works just as good as black acrylic for the backing color too. Here's the last body I shot with the Alclad spray can chrome. IIRC, tha stuff and the Spaz Stiks canned chrome both are in the $12-$13 range for a decent size can.

Corvette Turbine by Testors
Joe Handley replied to torinobradley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Ford had a few in service with their company owned fleet of rigs, in fact, there was a video on YouTube about it too! IIRC Chrysler did build some to with their early turbine prototypes that were prior go the Ghia cars. Not sure if it would be on Allpar, but there was an article in Mopar Action where a heavy truck was mentioned and was one of the early prototypes too. -
Custom Trabant FINISHED- Under Glass photos soon
Joe Handley replied to Chuck Most's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I don't know Chuck, that car might be too boxy for a bubble top......and you may have crossed that line as soon as you took a saw to the roof of that car -
That's what figure, $30-$35 or trade for a "L-Trail" chassis for another r/c project I want to do this winter....this one Your pricing idea is a good one but there is one problem, I wouldn't pay the $12 I paid for this one to get a real one! I picked it up for a friend who changed his mind (and still hasn't changed it back) before getting it.

Joe Handley replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
About the only racing I can watch any more with out unintentionally trying to take a nap are Touring Cars, Aussie V-8 Supercars, and believe it or not, Monster Trucks?! Everything else, I'm snoring within 15 laps?!?! -
potential paint source; Home Depot alert
Joe Handley replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wonder how well it would work if it was thinned with lacquer first. Dad has done that with house paint and it tends to stick better tban straight house paint does. -
Welcome aboard!

Don't see why not, I've seen it done with rc stuff, especially with the crawler guys. The monster truck I posted the pic of over in the so crazy it's cool thread, had enough parts to all but finish a new truck.

potential paint source; Home Depot alert
Joe Handley replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It would work on a home painted beater, a friend when I was in highschool shared a late 70's F-150 (w/I-6) with his older sister and it happened to be repainted white by a previous owner with house paint and a roller! -
