  1. Wichita, it was.
  2. Oh, wow. Dinner at Gibson's Steakhouse. Amazing! Apparently there's a nearby Brazilian steakhouse on the agenda tomorrow. My colleagues like to eat. Fortunately, I'll be flying back in a Boeing 737 'wide body.'
  3. Well said, Greg and Harry. Add to that: He's a true gentleman who's always willing to share ideas, techniques, or 'brainstormpower.' And ever quick to help a fellow modeler whenever he can. Quite a guy.
  4. Usually the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Sheryl Crowe, Beatles, Garth Brooks, Chris Ledoux, the Beach Boys, George Strait, Reba McIntyre, Kansas, Moody Blues, Chicago, Brian Wilson, Stan Kenton, and often the voices in Tom Geiger's head, the voices in Harry's head, and the voices in Agent G's head. I try not to listen to the voices in my head because they generally get me in trouble.
  5. As always, Charlie, your rigs are gorgeous. I hope mine ends up half as nicely. I also saw the one Greg built, and it too is beautiful. I came upon a couple of old pix of an impressive one Carl Rees built. Anybody else out there have one? Built, in progress, or unstarted; let us know, let us see it.
  6. Here is a pair I just recently acquired - from the bottom shelf of a hobby store in Denver. They didn't know what they had. I won't tell you what I paid for the pair - - it's nearly immoral. One . . . just ONE . . . has been my "holy grail" for the better part of 34 years. I was lucky to score one of the original fibreglass shells about 14-15 years ago, but since it was one of only a dozen or so, I've never been able to bring myself to cut into it. Now that I've scored the pair of detailed resins, I will leave the fiberglass shell in its virginal condition. I suspect the amber resin may be the first generation of bodies marketed by Uptown Hobbies in New York, and I believe the white resin version may be the second generation. Both were late 80's/early 90's while the fiberglass shell was very late 70's/very early 80's.
  7. Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I'll take them all under advisement and research them further. Any 'can't-miss' hobby shops?
  8. I probably would, too, if not for a business requirement. I'm not particularly attracted to the Bloomingdale's Outlet Store.
  9. I vividly remember that episode also. If I recall correctly, before he sold it, he announced he was going to cast it and sell it as his own creation. Being an AAM and occurring right after AAM shut down, his scheme wasn't highly regarded. He kept running "polls" to see how much "demand" there was for his 5.0 scheme. Still not much favorable response, but I guess there was at least one guy willing to part with big bucks for the last AAM casting. Guy's still around and occasionally floats a "poll" to ostensibly determine what market there is for "new" resin products. I still have little stomach for his shall we say "business plan."
  10. Any suggestions for a car/fire apparatus/model junkie to do in Rosemont/Des Plaines/O'Hare area with which to kill an empty-agenda day? I have a 'down' day next week. I had a plan, but then was bummed out to find (1) the Original McDonald's Museum is closed on Tuesday ~ and, it's really NOT a museum one can tour anyway - shocker - I didn't know that ~ (2) Giordano's doesn't allow you to take up residency in a booth for the whole day, no matter how many Chicago pies you order, and, (3) the Pristovnik Museum of Fine Art and Extraordinary Brass Era Models is booked solid for the next two years for drop-ins. I hear there's an engraved invitation included with my MCM Issue# 202, but I don't think it will get here before Tuesday. So I find myself with a day on my hands and nothing to do. Any suggestions for things to do and/or killer places of repast near the Loew's Rosemont (Chicago O'Hare)?
  11. You got that right!
  12. Holy Carp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {The Bronco}
  13. Copy that. My heart is at half-staff.
  14. Thanks, Jesse. I didn't remember the exact date & I couldn't find anything online. No reply from an email to the big guy, so I was starting to worry . . .
  15. Whazzzzzzzzzzzzzup? Any news?
  16. With great sadness comes the news of Arizona modeler Tim Pentecost's passing. Tim died yesterday after being struck by a massive heart attack. A robust and enthusiastic drag racing fan and scale modeling artist, Tim has struggled in recent years with some health issues. He seemed to be besting it all, but it had taken a lot from him, too. He was a great friend, master modeler, perpetually cheerful soul, and indomitable spirit. A Moonlight Modeler for decades, Tim was a big supporter of the Copperstate Model Car Championship and the Desert Scale Classic. Tim was a moving force behind the White Mountain Modelers of Northeastern Arizona, and his was the personality that brought us the legendary "Best Little Model Car Contest in the West," a wonderful event in his St. John's, Arizona community. Tim's presence at GSL was always a highlight of everyone's experience. And, his superbly crafted drag racing models have always been a treasure for the eyes. His presence among us will be (correction - is already) missed. No more information available yet. Please have prayers in your heart for Tim's soul, his lovely wife Paula, their children and grand-children, and the many close friends left behind.
  17. The Clinton Machine has made HUNDREDS of millions that way. Very disquieting.
  18. Nice!
  19. Temperature? Or SPEED?
  20. What she did is not stupidity . . . it is depravity. Even smart people can be depraved.
  21. I'm in.
  22. Exquisite!
