Judging will be fair and impartial . . . or it won't . . . regardless of whether a builder's name is displayed. If the builder's name influences the judging, there is no impartiality or ethics involved in the judging. Besides, as Tom says, most people (other than first-timers or infrequent attendees) can recognize a builder's style whether his name is affixed to the entry or not. Hiding or identifying the builder doesn't seem to really be a factor, IMHO, if the judging has integrity in the first place.

At the upcoming DESERT SCALE CLASSIC, we're going to have nametags with forum usernames ("handles") available for anyone who wants them. It's a good idea.

1977 F-150 4x4
Danno replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This model is absolutely stunning, especially in person! Gorgeous. What Mike is too humble to mention is that this model handily won our club's monthly contest (last night) by a huge margin of votes. (And there was some seriously stiff competition. It wasn't a cake-walk by any means.) -
Scott, A true Scandahoovian has been there, done that, and has the T-shirt! I have one of these. A fellow club member, also a Lutefisk survivor, gave me this T-shirt a few years ago. I earned it throughout my youth. Oh, ya, you betcha, dern tootin' don't cha know.

Absolutely gooooooood!

Indeed. I believe that is it. I cut three sections for the hood. I believe I have about the same amount left over; enough to do one more hood. I've had the MCG (and other) photoetched hinges, but you (or at least, I) just can't get a good, tight hinge out of them. That's why I continued searching until I found the one I used.
-
Bernard, They (actually 'it') are/is brass. I got it years ago online from a doll house supply shop in New England. The hinge was about 5 or 6 mm wide, 6 inches long and VERY expensive. So, I only bought one - knowing it would be plenty for one model but figuring I would buy more if it worked well. Needless to say, it worked very well and I was very impressed. I tried to buy a few more, but the supplier had gone out of business! Just in the span of a few weeks. I haven't seen the same hinge since in the U.S., although there's one that is very close available from an English purveyor (ironically, Phoenix Model Developments) and it may well be the same product.
-
Jon, I've done it. But, I used a manufactured piano-style hinge that was ultra tiny and worked perfectly. I'll be the first to tell you, it can't be properly done with plastic. It takes three hinge sections, as your illustration shows: one the length of the top/center rib, and one each where the top sections meet the side panels (as shown as the horizontal line in your illustration). Both hood sides of the 1:1 can be 'open' at the same time, creating a "M" figure as seen from the radiator or the cowl, but due to the limitations imposed by the thickness of plastic parts, it can't be done on a 1/24-1/25 model. One can only hope to open one side or the other of the hood at one time. Hope this helps.

I agree, Harry. I've enjoyed the movie every time I've viewed it. I have it in my personal library and I've watched it several times at home since the first time at a theater. Highly recommended.
