1:24/1:25 Woodlites?
Dave in Seattle replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, there was a kit that had Woodlites in it. I thought it was the "Bathtub Buggy", but not so. I simply cannot recall the kit name, but recall it being one of those "wild customs" of some sort. Just know that they did exist. I have a set in 1/25 that I stashed away for future use/casting, but would be hard-pressed to find them at the moment. If you are inclined to scratchbuild them, Google "Woodlites" and you can find a drawing out there. I just did. -
He'll have a heck of a time starting this engine with that many bubbles in the gas line! Hope the battery is fully charged.... Fabulous work!

Hey man! You got the hiccups or something?

Great! More help. Many thanks. Now I get the outside contour much better. Now, what about the inside? I suspect that I will need to compromise that anyway because of the limits of making a part and casting it. (You did not seriously think I would do this without casting it, did you?) Of course, Art put another bug in my head with that seriously great photo of the artillery wheels too... Dang! Too many projects for the time alloted! Actually I love it. Keep the info coming please!

All helpful info guys. Many thanks. I guess my real question goes to the shape of the cross section line of the "dish" of the disc. I've never seen one of these wheels "in the flesh", so all I have is pictures. In cross section, is this wheel shaped like a shallow bowl - akin to a birdbath, for example? Or is it pretty much conical, with straight sides?

The recent thread regarding colors for the 1930-ish Packards, has once again tweaked my interest in these beauties. Out in the stash, I've got a bunch of those Monogram kits that need to be built. What I'd really like to do though, is a version or two that uses the disc wheels. So.....I'm looking for any kind of drawing or dimensional information regarding same. I can certainly turn them on the lathe, but don't know the details. Can anyone out there help? Many thanks.

That figure is "Warner", one of the ones from Supply Line. Here's a link to their site: http://www.slmonline.com/

One that has not been mentioned from Monogram is the Bugatti Type 35 B/C, depending on which issue box you're looking at. That one can be used to build so MANY Bugatti variants with a little kit-bashing and scratchbuilding. I'd love to see it get re-released sometime soon, and would buy a case in a heartbeat.

There was also an old Renault TN6C bus kit in 1/24 scale made by Heller a number of years ago. They show up on that auction place every so often.

I found my picture of the kit discussed above. Everything shown in the photo is in the kit, including the shadowbox. -

Yup. I've got it too, along with the other two in the series. If I remember correctly, there were two (the Winton and a brass-era Ford fire truck) that were in wooden shadow boxes, and one (another brass-era Ford) in a plastic one, for a total of three. I can't look for my pics until at least Thursday, and god only knows where the kits themselves might be in the stash! -

There actually was a model of that exact car done in 1/24 scale back in the 60s. It was issued in a shadowbox-style diorama setting, and included figures of the driver, mechanic and the dog! The kit was made by tonka (yup, the same one) and is extremely rare and therefore expensive. It was part of a series that Tonka issued that only made one appearance in the market and then disappeared. I'm not at my home computer right now, but think I have a picture of the kit that I will hunt up later this week. The kit does rarely show up on that auction site once in awhile. Good luck finding one! -

Got one word for all y'all: ZICAM. The stuff REALLY works. I like the pump spray best. Dave -
Looking for a horse in 1/25...
Dave in Seattle replied to Brizio's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Go to Walthers.com and do a search for "Preiser" and then a refining search for "1/24". All kinds of animals and people, and other stuff too. -
Very nice! Inventive too! I made the cover of SAE many years ago with the stock version of that little beauty. One of these days I shall take pics.... Dave

Hey Art! I am always impressed with your problem solving and methodology. I always learn something from every one of your started modeling efforts. I only hope I live long enough to see another one finished....

Me! Me! Flying in Friday afternoon. See you all there..... Dave

RIP Lee Baker
Dave in Seattle replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll miss him too. I had the priviledge of meeting him at the Amelia Island Concours a few years ago, and it seems to me I was him again at one of the GSL shows. I shared a love of the Classics - the REAL classics, not the 50s and 60s stuff that today's "kids" call "classics"! I so much admired his work that I bought all the old master parts he did that AAM used to sell. Still have them carefully packed away. I've always wondered if there would be enough interest to warrant a new round of casting, but never was convinced that there was. It's a shame really.... Dave
