  1. Thanks for the compliments guys. Troy, you may be on to something with the rocker panels. I'll have to do a couple tests. It's important that the new design doesn't lose the flavor of the Merc.
  2. This past weekend I went to the Detroit Autorama. It was the 50th anniversary of the Riddler Award and there were some amazing cars on display, along with some great TV/movie cars. Besides being my Dad and I's 32nd trip to Autorama I got to talk briefly with Chip Foose! I knew that he appreciats seeing peoples drawings. I told him that I sketch in plastic and showed him pictures of the Merc. He said "WOW, that is a great looking model. I really like that design." That was HUGE for me.
  3. That is what I did, I popped the centers out of the Pegasus wheels and popped in these. I have tried and couldn't find a big inch snowflake wheel that looked right. The big Trans Am kit was a 1:12 and those were too big. I would like the snowflake pattern to be bigger but after their painted they will look good.
  4. Brought this one out of moth balls because of getting a new set of wheels. The Pegasus wheels were the closest thing I could find to a 20" snowflake wheel but I never really liked them. The new wheels are a true deep dish snowflake wheel.
  5. Nice! Keep it up, I'll be watching this one.
  6. creating a peak down the rest of the nose of the car
  7. Here's the Merc's engine 6.4 litre supercharged V-10 512hp 640ftlb of torque!
  8. Lookin good so far. I'll be watching this one progress. On a side note: I NEED one of those hoods for the Merc. THAT'S the look I am needing to make that nose more angular. The hood that is on it is a modified 49 Ford hood so I know that one will fit the current opening!
  9. I'm going with a set of New Beetle headlamps
  10. So, along with adding the seam to the hood and squared off it's edges. I also flattened out the surfaces of the fenders quite a bit. Now I have to find the best way to do the same treatment to the valance. The grille won't have a center seam.
  11. Heck yeah man!!!! Bagging it is the way to go with this one, Laying frame
  12. What color scheme are you thinking of?
  13. With this kit you can put the bumpers on the car before paint, the chassis will slide into place without much problem. However, in 1:1 scale the bumpers DO have to be removed before paint!
  14. How about borrowing some of the body lines from this design? I'm trying to solve that whole round/sharp thing
  15. Hi guys, I will be starting on the frame soon and it will be modern. I'm using the CheZoom frame, the problem is I need to find a much more detailed Corvette suspension to use. The IFS and the four link provided are awful. Billy and Todd: The drivetrain will be modern. I have a Cobra engine and a Lightning engine in the parts bin. However, one idea was to take one of them and stretch it into a Triton V-10, and keep the supercharger. David: I am going to keep the round headlights to keep the identity of the Merc. I see the problem of the round/sharp thing. The grille will have sharp edges, plus I was thinking of modifying the hood, and maybe the front valance somehow. I would like to take the "whale" look the nose has and make it more muscular and angry.
  16. You could try tooth picks.
  17. Here's the grille that I want for the Merc. I'll have to fabricate it but oh well. It's a 2013 Ford Fusion grille. For the Merc it will be mounted upside down.
  18. Wow! I am really liking this one, great concept. I'll be looking forward to seeing this one progress. I'm going to agree with Daniel G on seeing what a smaller wheel would look like, not too small though. Maybe the big inch smoothies out of that Snap Fast Slammer car. I'm woorking on my Merc tonight too (49 Merc Extreme Custom)
  19. You have my attention, I'll be watching this build.
  20. AWWWWW MAN!!! I've had those problems too. I do love the car though, don't give up on it. I really like the fab work. The bodywork is killer too. What kit did the suspension components that weren't scratch built come from? That is exactly the look I need for the chassis on my Merc (49 Merc Extreme Custom). I'll be looking forward to seeing more progress. Hope you can get her ironed out.
  21. Really cool car! Good choice on the top and I love the side windows. Depending on how big of a grille you want to go with I have a few ideas. I like the 37 Ford headlights but, mold them into the frnders. For the grille how about something like the Whatthehaye by Boyd? Another idea is to use an upside down Aluma Coupe grille. Even a 53 Corvette grille turned on edge. Either way you may want to stretch the nose of the car down a bit. I understand the design process and how things can change on a whim. I like that you are seeking advice. It was the people on here that gave me some awesome ideas on my 49 Merc. I will be looking forward to seeing your progress.
  22. Ha ha not yet, I do have the red shirt though.
