Love the 57 Ford. It looks kinda like my Dad's old car. His was candy apple red, shaved, roll pan, custom made grille out of old door knobs, 57 Plymouth moons, and red/white tuck and roll interior.
Too cool! I'll be watching this one. I was planning on doing a forward flip hood on my Merc (49 Merc Extreme Custom) I just haven't got to that point with it yet.
This thing is CRAZY! I love it. With the right paint job you could have the Blue Max vs the Blue Angels. Just be sure to reverse the curvature of those wings so she doesn't take flight at mid track.
Wow, this is really different. Of the hundreds of custom '57 Chevys I've seen, real and model I have never seen someone lop off the fins. This is really cool. It gives the car a whole new identity. It in effect backdates the design five to ten years. Keep it up! One thing you may want to consider is removing the eyebrows over the headlights. That would help balance the new look. I'm looking forward to see how this one turns out.
Lookin good Dirk. Nice details, I really like the color, and good job on the bare metal foil. That stuff can be a pain no matter how good you are at it.
I love the design of this one Ira. The shapes of the 30's era boat tails, particularly the '35 Auburn Speedster are so elegent. This one melds that with a high speed streamliner look. Whatever power plant makes it under that hood i hope it's supercharged. Could we see a top view shot of this one?
ps. don't miss my 49 Merc Extreme Custom
LOL this thing is sweet! It's an insane ammount of bodywork (as usual) and you gotta smile when you see it. It looks like a driveable Zinger.
I have a theory on how this project was concieved:
We find Ira clearing his mind after his Starfire build and he decides to relax in the model room. He's thinking of a custom Ranchero so he gets out some old magazines, the ones he stumbles on just happen to be a Car Toons and an old Hot Rod featuring Zingers. On the TV is an episode of Speed Buggy. The wheels start turning then BAM!!!!
The Detroit Area Auto Modelers (the DAAM club) is having it's bi-annual show and swap meet at Macomb College on 4-29 (it's a Sunday) from 9am til 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Lots of cars in the contest and lots of vendors.
I'm a member of DAAM and have been a member of the Downriver club since '94.
This thing is sweet, I love funny cars. I'm surprized that there wasn't one of these things tearing up the tracks in the70's. Hey Don, have you ever seen the full size pro-mod 49 Merc?
Lookin good! I'll be looking forward to seeing the progress on this one. OK, I may be a LITTLE partial........ the Bandit has been my dream car since I was 3 years old. The Monogram '78 T/A is my favorite kit (i have a ton of them). Also, with the help of my family and friends I built a 1:1 Bandit replica out of an '81 T/A.
Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'm a lot happier with the profile now that I shortened the rear fenders. I feel that it has a more balanced look. Next I need to find a front valance that compliments the look of the Merc. Instead of a cruiser sled I think the car has more of a pro touring muscle car feel. What do you guys think?
