Bad news about our friend
Trans Am Erik replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bud is a friend of mine also. I've been in the DMCC for 15 years now and I've always admired Bud's work. Brian (GENERAL LEE), Joe, and myself went to see him when he was in the hospital earlier in the year. He perked up when he opened up the Black Widdow '57 Chevy and began plotting and planning. Just hanging out with friends and talking cars was a great medication. Get well soon Bud, you're in our prayers. -
Save Pontiac
Trans Am Erik replied to lordairgtar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not going to get into the politics of this pie in the sky plan. From the standpoint of the cars, if GM REALLY wanted to save the Pontiac name they would relegate them to niche cars. Bring back the Trans Am and the GTO, but do it right this time! Give the cars the correct retro styling, colors, decals, and BIG BLOCK power! Before you scoff at that statement take a look at the Mustang (and Shelby Mustang), Challenger, and Camaro. These cars look the way they should, come in their famous colors, and have the same massive hoursepower as their classic counterparts. As far as what every American car maker is putting out I can not stand and here's why. The big mistake that has been made is in competing with Japanese cars is the platforms and styling mimic Japanese cars. The basic American car is a compact four cylinder four door sedan, WHY??!!!!! American roads and parking lots can accomodate large cars. We do have the technology to have a V-8 and save gas, ever hear of selective displacement and E-85. It dos sadded me to se Pontiac go, I own a '77 Trans Am (a REAL Pontiac) but I won't miss the G series cars! Ok, I'm done, that's just my opinion. -

Old car cartoons
Trans Am Erik replied to oldscool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was called Turbo Teen. When he got hot he became the car, when cold he turned back to a kid. There were a ton of car cartoons in the eighties. One of my favorites was M.A.S.K. -
Great Job! She looks real mean. I'm a TV/Movie car nut and Eleanor is one of my favorites. Another thing that makes that movie so cool is that Nick Cage did most of the driving! He also took one of the cars home after filming.

Parental Support and Car Modeling
Trans Am Erik replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Dad is who got me into modeling. He would be building one and I would help. After a while he'd help me with a part or two. As the years went on i would finish a car, take it to show him and he'd tell me i did a good job and show me how to do the next one better. Unfortunately, I diddn't take constructive critisisim very well. ( ) After the grumbling I'd do the next one better. One day I took my ZZ TOP Eliminator to show him. His eyes got wide as he looked it over. After a minute he put it down and said "WOW! That looks awesome." It's probably my favorite car in my collection. -
Astrovette poll
Trans Am Erik replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad to see that you're going to restore it. It's cool that it's complete. I'll be looking forward to seeing how it progresses. I do like the concept. Although, I'm used to seeing my Dad's '73 Stingray convertible so those skirts are a bit of a shock, not bad just VERY different. -

What about doing the grille mod yourself? It couldn't take more than a couple hours to convert the Monaco. -

Loooking goodman! It has a nice stance. -
The new track is called Downriver Speedway and Hobby. They have two tracks. One is a Daytona shaped oval track, the other is a drag strip! They should be open by the first of October and will also be selling models. You will also be able to buy pre painted bodies for your slot cars. I'll post pics in a day or two. Joe, the owner is still setting up the tracks. Downriver Speedway is located at 3918 Dix rd. in Lincoln Park just south of Moran (corner with the Marathon/A&W)

Suggestions for Toddler Car Enthusiast
Trans Am Erik replied to Terri's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Seeing a story like this really hits home. It makes me happy to see a youngster with so much enthusiasum for cars. The biggest influence on me at that age was TV/ movie cars. Has he seen Herbie, The Dukes, or Smokey and the Bandit yet? Ertl makes a very dourable 1/24 die cast General Lee that I bought for my little cousin a couple years ago. Another cool thing would be to take him to a cruise night. There he could see and hear a bunch of really cool classic cars. I don't know where you are from but, every year my Dad and I go to the Detroit Autorama. It is very special to me. We first went when I was 3 and missed only once in 28 years since. This year my Dad had bunion surgery and couldn't walk. Next year my friends and I may be in the show with about a dozen REAL TV/movie cars! -
Good looking cars! I love the older Can-Am cars. 2 questions, what scale are they, and where did you get those turbine wheels?

Video Game Car Question
Trans Am Erik replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool Idea! The car from the PS2 version of the game looks like it could be made with a Viper coupe, stretched through the rear to make a mid engine platform, or a heavily modified Saleen S-7. The old top view '80's arcade version could be made out of anything from a Jag to a Ferrari. Here's the PS2 version Keep me posted, I bought my PS2 because it had the most car games! I love the ones that let you customize the cars. -
My concept Trans Am based on the Kevin Morgan design

THE REAL THING!!!!! -
To me it looks like a massaged Gallardo. IMO McLaren can do much better. How about a car with a bit of the F-1 with styling cues from the M6GT and the M8B. If they made the F-1 in a model it would already be in the works!
-
Let me know if the tuner buildoff is a go. I've got one in the works that will blow your mind. When the tuner thing dropped in popularity I already had the car started. It was a project meant to confuse you as to just what it is.

Welcome Blackjack! Don't get me started on taking time off from modeling. My latest progress is on cars that have been in the works for 2 years! (i'm NOT proud of that). You've got a couple nice rides there and I'll be looking forward to seeing that 'Cuda. Oh, check your camera for the "macro" feature, you can get great closeups of your cars that way.
