  1. Good to see you here, Clay! This is the place I go when TRaK's guidelines are too strict. There's some really great talent on here; you'll fit right in.
  2. When I left for work this morning, I had no emails. I have my account set to notify me by email when I recieve a PM from another member and it works everytime. I wonder how many I'll have when I get home; if any..... edit: I notice the repeat emails are received by members who joined in March 06 and earlier. I wonder what that means.

I'm bumping this one back up because I didn't post on it a month ago. When you put this on as your avatar, Randy, I remembered it and wanted to comment. I saw this at the Super Sept. Showdown near the end of the show and was really bowled over by it. I was walking around with Nick and noticed it. I said how nice it was after giving it a good once over, I asked Nick if he knew who built it and he said you did. I said I wasn't surprised. Very excellent build! All the little details pop really well. The traction bars look great. I hope I don't have to break any bones to crank out builds this nice!
  4. I have another odd story and some of you have heard it but, for the sake of participation in this thread, here I go again.... I tinkered with car models growing up throughout the late 80s and the 90s(I'm 32 now) but never really did much with them because my Mother made spray painting by me "off limits". She couldn't be bothered by me making a mess that would dirty up anything in her pristine house.(I'm not mad, she was an Air Force nurse so go figure. ) I have always been picky about how things look so I just didn't really "finish" any builds I started. The biggest reason I didn't push the model car building with her was because I had HO scale trains to tinker with. That was easy enough to build up a layout on a 4X8 sheet of plywood. Over the years I did buy the odd model kit here and there with the intention of eventually building them. I didn't really put any thought into working on them until I quit smoking and was seeking out something to help battle the cravings. Since I am in my own house and have a supportive girlfriend, I can do whatever I want hobby-wise at least. The train hobby would have to wait until I am in a different house than now as I would have to give up too much space for a layout. I was thinking, "why don't I dig out that pickup truck I started right after high school?" I decided to finish it as my first build. It took me about 3 months of slow progress to finish it and I can say that I am really pleased with it. That was around March 2007. I have been steadily building models and the stockpile of kits ever since. I can say that I deeply enjoy this hobby and I will continue to participate in it until I am unable to for whatever crippling reason that may be. It hits a spot for me that has long been "un-scratched" so-to-speak. I tried art classes in school and always felt like I didn't have enough talent or ability. This hobby is a way for me to express myself artistically that I feel represents me the best. It seems that I have always been a builder, but it has been repressed in a way. It took breaking an addiction to bring it out of me. At least I picked up something healthy to replace something very unhealthy!
  5. Ahhh, my bad. I did see his builds in the pics so I figured he was there. I imagine Dave brought them with him if he couldn't make it. He's the one who posts Ted's stuff on the forums.
  6. Viper Dave is Dave McGaughey(he's a member on here) and I'm pretty sure that the guy you have labeled "Modelsbyroni" is none other than Ted Lear, aka Chopper. I only met him once briefly at NNL East this year, and I believe that's him.
  7. What an entrance! Wow, I thought I could be impatient at times. This strikes me as humorous because he is not even in the right hobby if he wants instant gratification!
  8. ....and the Yokohama AVS Intermediate tires he's runnin' with the spoiler that looks like a MkI golf piece!(Those tires means he likes to go left and right as much as straight! ) I wouldn't be surprised if those lights are yellow for foggy driving due to living in Oregon.
  9. It looks like a Pinto with a custom front clip. It kinda makes it look like a Capri....
  10. Is it safe to assume that this is you, George? If so, good to finally put a face to the name! I couldn't make it due to wishy-washy-ness before the date. I screwed around too long deciding that I couldn't get off work. Ah well, there's always next year! Oh, you want to be geeked? You need to go to the NNL East in NJ next spring! THe 2008 show was my cherry of model car shows and needless to say, I was in a daze for a week after! WOW
  11. 1968 Checker Ghia/Centurion. This was a tough one!
  12. 70-75 Porsche 914 with a slant nose conversion. Can't see the motor but, I have seen everything from a flat 6 to a V8 and even a rotary turbo in those. Only real problem with those(besides rust), is the drive train of a type 4 VW does not a sports car make in a car as heavy as they are. They out handled the 911 by a long shot. Just didn't have any snot to pull 'em around the corners!
  13. I don't know about un-natural..... To me, it looks like he's in the middle of nature calling him!

Nice work! I like the motor choice too, and I'm glad you didn't go with the big wheels. I am also happy to see one of these Speedwagons painted a color other than blue.
  15. 32 going on 33 in Dec. I tinkered with model cars when I was growing up, but I didn't really start building until last spring. I had a couple kits unfinished and I decided to pick one up and finish it when I quit smoking. Haven't looked back and regret nothing. The $1500 I was spending a year on cigarettes went right into kits and tools.

Nothing wrong with a lot of dish! I like them!

Nice work! I like the colors too. I need to do a Mopar build sometime. Maybe I can build the one of these I have. Where did the wheels come from? They look a bit too deep dish for the kit wheels...
  18. Don't know the year, but it is this century. The Golf in the photo, however, is an 85-87 model. It also is wearing a Hella ground effects kit. That is a reeeeaaaallllllllyy rare set up these days! (Stateside, at least) This one is in England. I wonder what year this was taken.
  19. OK, I can see two 3 series BMWs, a pair of Seat Cordobas, and looks like three or four Alfa Romeos. Looks like a good race with all those cars crammed into a corner! (Might be turn #1....)
  20. Nice work! I like the last pic with the record cover backdrop. Really adds period flavor!
  21. Great job! This is by far my favorite British car. Definitely the only one I would think about putting in my 1:1 garage! It would be really cool to see a 1:1 one of these at the meeting tomorrow drifting around the dirt oval! Can't wait to see it, and I'll make sure to bring a magnifying glass!
  22. Wow! That is some creativity there, Virgil! Keep it moving, I'll be watching the progress!
  23. Nice decal work. You can keep 'em! Decal hatred is the sole reason I probably won't tackle a race car for a looooonnnnggg time! BMF on the other hand..... That doesn't bother me. Go figure.... Anyway, I like the interior the most, it's better than I can pull off. Great detail work! Too bad these Japanese kits don't have complete motors usually. This one would have had cool throttle bodies. Mmmmmmmm throttle bodies..... Can't wait to see it Saturday!
  24. It's a VW engine! (duh! ) A 24 valve 3 liter VR6 engine on throttle bodies and a header..... MMmmmm, That must be some symphonic cacophony going on there!
