Ford W Series cab 3D printed. Interested?
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If I were to do this one, it would only be a section that fits under the AMT C600 cab. To do the whole cab would be too difficult to get right and a waste of time because AMT already made the cab and it is really good. -
So, I have been working on this off and on this week. I saw a truck like this in Paul Idaho the first time over a year ago. I have been back a few times and it is still there and it still interests me. So, I decided to draw it up and see if I can get it 3D printed. You learn a lot about a truck when you start to replicate it in scale. These started in 1966 after the H tall cabbed C Ford was discontinued. Many small things changed over the first few years before the redesign. These ran from 1966 to 1973, then got a redesign in 1974 with the Louisville style grill and some other updates. 1966 to 1973 had a bunch of little changes, door handles, the F O R D letters got smaller, the sleeper storage door changed size. Some had the deflectors at the front, some did not. These are representative of about a 1968, close as I can get anyway. The plan is, if there is any interest, to off these through Texas 3D Customs. We have spoken and is willing to offer these through his site. If you have never purchased stuff from him, you need to check it out and see the reviews. His printing is awesome, and he takes great care to offer the best products. So, let me know if this is something of interest. I do not have the interior yet, but I think it will be an interior plate, dog house, and dash. You would need to provide the seats. Do to the doors being rather thin in real life, I may do the door panel detail on the inside of the doors as apposed to separate parts. It will also keep the cost down. If these work out, I may do the GMC Cracker Box and the boxy Dodge cab too.

My C4 Corvette
Oldmopars replied to jdcar32's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
I envy you guys. I have loved the Corvettes since I was a young buck. My father was an auto body man for a Chevrolet dealer and he restored Corvettes at work and on the side. In 1984 I was a teen looking to get my license, the C4 was a dream. I will never forget Mary Lou Retton in her 1984 Corvette that GM gave her after her Olympics win. (Remember the McDonalds commercial?) Or Lee Stetson from Scarecrow and Mrs. King, a silver one. Or the White one "Face" drove on the A-Team. Sadly, while my income has greatly increased, and the prices have come down, my body has paid the price for doing the jobs I have done. I am currently 90% disabled through the VA, soon to be 100%. I almost bought a 1993, but it was too painful to get in and out of. The ride also was very unpleasant. I still hold out hope, my dream would be a 84-86. Yes, the worst years. For me it has to be the older one with the full video game digital dash., the bread loaf dash, no air bags, etc. The car I fell in love with. If I ever do get one, it will have to be an auto, and I will spend more time dreaming about driving it, than actually driving it. -
Help me ID this truck, 60’s Ford semi

It blows me away that he was able to do that with styrene. I have a lot of respect for that kind of work. Me, I figured out how to do it a different way. I said I was going to model it, I am getting closer. -
Cabs under construction
Oldmopars replied to Repstock's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
As I said earlier, I have been thinking about making this cab. I am still a long way off from it being something for sale, but I think it is looking reasonable so far. -

Looking good. Any more built pictures? I have this one somewhere in the stack, it would be nice to see how you got this far. -

I know this is a really old thread, but any chance the OP is still around? I am working on drawing up the W for printing and these pictures are excellent. The craftsmanship is outstanding. -

Very nice, that is a lot of work. A lot of design work went into that. It does look like the master was 3D printed, and these parts are cast from the 3D master. That is why they all have those large blocks attached to the parts. It allows the resin to shrink and not effect the part. -
I'm working on that right now. These are actually 1:1 at the moment. However these will get scaled down to the correct scale before printing. So, they could be offered in 1:32, 1:25/1:25, 1:16, 1:8, etc. Printing them in 1:24 may be best, if they are a little too wide, they can be trimmed down a little bit to fit, but that makes them fit the widest range of trucks.

So, you asked for this. I made it this weekend. The Warn 8274 is created off of "blueprints". The bumper is just a design based off the pictures. I

So, my plan was to create the cab in 3D software to be printed. As it is a simple very square design, I figured it would be a good cab to attempt this with. I have designed many things, but have not done a cab or body. -

After a lot of guessing and searching, I found that it is a W series. About 1968-69? By 1974 they got a new grill. The truck above may be a WT1000? The Blue Mule was a WT, but after 1974. -

The cottage model parts business is tough, and it looks like "Life" has claimed several recently. Who all has closed recently? And what is the current status? AITM-- Closed but bought out by ST Supply? B-n-L -- Closed? Rookie Resins -- Closed? Scenes Unlimited -- Closed? Olsen Brothers -- Closed? Are there any more? Any news on reopening or new owners?

All very do-able. Let me work on this and see if we can make it happen.

Post Pictures of what you want. I am sure we can make it happen. (I know a guy )

Its not that I don't want to share, its that its not fair to the guy that is spending his time and money doing the printing, trying to support his family and then have those same files out there for free or cheap and someone else comes along as sells them for less than the other guy. That is one of the reasons the resin casting industry has suffered over the years. A guy buys a part/body from the master/caster and then copies it and sells the copies for less on Ebay. It ruins it for everyone.

So, this is where I am trying to gauge interest. For someone running a business to commit to print and sell a design, they need to know that the same designs are not out there being printed buy other people. While I wish that they could be offered both ways, its just not a good option for the business that is investing time in printing them. So, everyone let me know what other Semi specific parts you would want. Bodies are not an option right now as they are too complex in shape. Well, other than maybe the old cracker box trucks, not a curve to be found on those.

I am saddened to see some of the great casters closing up shop and no longer having those parts available. I feel for them and wish them well. In their absence, is there any interest in some 3D printed parts like tool boxes or fuel tanks? This is just one example of the kinds of things I can do if there is interest. These would be sold by a printer, (printed parts)not me. BTW, this is my design taken from a tool box being sold in 1:1.

How big is your... stash?
Oldmopars replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well, I don't feel so bad now. My stash is under 200 (I think). Almost all are more resent kits, lots of big rigs, 60-70s cars and a bunch of pickups/SUVs. My 1/8 scale stuff is the biggest space hog, I have those stashed under beds, in the shed, behind stuff, etc.
