  1. So, more progress. I was able to get the chassis put together for some mock up shots and I wanted to be sure the Turbo was going to work with the interior tub. I am going to need to massage it a little, but it fits pretty good. Because it is a septic truck, I do not want chrome stacks, so I am running the exhaust out and down so I can run a large muffler under the frame. You can see the down pipe in the pictures. The chrome valve covers will be removed and stripped, but I needed them there to fit the turbo. I also hit up the hardware store for some plumbing fittings. I got 2 pipe caps and a coupler. I need to shorten the coupler a little, but the 3 parts will get glued together and become the tank. It works out to a scale 5 foot 7in diameter, about what I have seen in the 1:1. Still undecided on the wheels, it is a commercial truck and they like to have a little flash, so I may just leave them chrome. The 1:1 truck seem to be a mix of both chrome/Aluminum and painted white.
  2. So, I just put mine together tonight. I did as was suggested and put some sand paper on the table and cleaned up the edges. It all went together fairly well with some plastruct weld. I was able to get the seams really nice, and some light sanding and the seams are perfect. The plastic is shinny on the back and not on the front, so it looks different in the pictures, but in real life you can't even feel the seams.
  3. Glad to read this, I just started on the SD version of this kit for the 2018 Cannonball
  4. So I decided to do the 2018 Cannonball. However the rules this year mandate an inline engine. So, I came up with a plan to do a White-Freightliner with a twist. The Cannonball is a coast to coast race, so I thought about what kind of vehicle would the Cops not really want to stop? How about a truck full of sewage? So, I am building a sewage truck/septic tank sucker/honey bucket truck. Its nick name is going to be The Stool Bus. So, as of now I have the kit. I started it today and I was able to add a turbo from an Italari Iveco kit. I figure even though its a septic truck, it could still use some more power.
  5. So, I decided that I'm in on this Cannonball build. However, I wanted to do something different, but still me. So, here it is with a Cumins Inline 6. At this point the plan is to build something the Cops would not want to stop, like a Septic Truck or maybe a Forest Service brush fire truck. Either will have a hidden fuel tank inside the Fake tank, this way it will have the range and no need to stop for fuel. Maybe an extra Turbo or 2 will get the speed up.
  6. I looked up Groom's car/truck thing. I must say that I like most of it. I like the crazy Mad Scientist flare crossed with a little Steam punk to create a unique Rat Rod. I would have liked to see a better windshield and maybe something crazy vintage for the wheels, the rest of it speaks to me and I would have fun driving it around. That drive shaft setup is crazy, scary and kind of cool.
  7. I would like more info, but I think I'm in. I have a 359 with Peerless log trailer I just started and a 65 Chevy School bus I just started in Jan. Plus about 5 more I need to start.
  8. Looking great, nice job
  9. Well, I've made some progress on it. I am working on the weathering. I plan to do a wash and dull clear. Interior is progressing too, but slowly. The grill and front bumper will be painted white after they come out of the purple pond.
  10. I love the slant 6, did this come with the Volare kit? I want one for some future projects.
  11. For me, I would never quit my current job to become a model builder. I happen to have the luxury of working from home. My work desk is connected to my model desk in the same room, so as I work, I am working on my models. So, I am getting paid by my employer as I work on my models. I talk on the phone doing technical support. So, often times I can sit and work between phone calls, or work on stuff as I talk to the customer or wait for them to do what I asked them to do. If I did build models and sell them, it would only be to supplement my income, not replace it. Way too risky and would take away any fun. So, if I only made $5 an hour, no big deal, I am still getting paid by my regular job during that time anyway.
  12. Well, you learn something new every day. I guess I should improve my skills and start selling some cool stuff. I have the time.
  13. See this ad for a E-bay model. https://www.ebay.com/itm/292481166350?_trksid=p2471758.m4704 I even looked at the bids, more than one person bid on it. Am I missing something or is there a market for built models? I was looking at it before the bidding closed, and it is nice, don't get me wrong. Someone did a quality job on that little car, but it is just a resin kit. Please explain. Maybe I need to start a side gig of building models and selling them if that is what they are worth. (not likely)
  14. I have the bus in primer now, it is coming along. I am working on weathering it to look kind of like the one I showed above.
  15. I've made some progress. I got the door moved to the other side and some of the bodywork finished up. I still need to do some finish work on the door and the connection of the bus/truck. I really like to shorter look of it. Now to figure out the interior and modify the floor to work with the door flip. I have also been describing the body lines to make sure they don't get lost in the bodywork.
  16. Yes it would, it will need to be cut shorter to work as a pre 1971 or a M38A-1.
  17. I just picked up the latest reissue of this kit. If it weren't for it being only $6.50 at Hobby Lobby, I would have left it, I hate the 1980 Grill. I have been working with a guy here that has super skills with 3d modeling software, he is making a 1974 Dodge and 1974 Plymouth hood and grill. I need to get mine ordered and I will hopefully show it off soon. It will make these kits so much more attractive.
  18. Looks great, I love the idea. I also love that you did the trim around the side windows, I have seem several of these that the trim is missing, it looks unfinished without it. Fantastic build.
  19. Cool stuff, but I think you have ADHD. Squirrel!
  20. Thank you, this helps. I hate to buy a kit and then find out is is BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH and have to go buy another. This has happened to me before with the Daisy Duke Jeep, its a CJ5 not a CJ7 and with Chevy tow truck kit that was so bad I can't salvage anything out of it.
  21. Looking forward to this one. I had an original perfect condition 1967 Bel Air back in the 90's. Got it in Arizona while I was in school. Loved that car
  22. So, I am looking to build a Back to the future car, what kit is better, or are they the same? The box art on both kits are just pictures from the movie. Price is close so that is not a factor. I just want the best kit and not end up buying 2 kits just to get it right.
