I have had this kit started for several months, but I kept running into a block as to what to do with the paint. Nothing seemed to hit me right. No color seemed to speak to me, so I asked the question if OD green would work. I got a response that the Swiss Army has a contract with Iveco to supply them with trucks, and the Stralis 4x2 was on the list. So, inspired I build this truck. I put the EcoStralis decals on it, because it seemed like the thing the Swiss Army would order. Some Swiss plates and no chrome.

If it was me, I would modify a 454 to look like a 6.2/6.5L Diesel. Unless the Chevy truck you are building is 1/24 scale, the Meng motor will be a bit large. It would not be too hard to make a 454 look like a 6.2. The intake could be modified and the carb removed. Then add an injection pump and delete the distributor. Then use stiff wire for the fuel lines and bend them to look like fuel lines not ignition wires. A big thick aircleaner with 2 wings nuts and your set. If you do it right, you will be the only one to know if was not a 6.2L Diesel to start with. I am sure the Meng is nice, but they are not a cheap way to get a motor.

Thanks, mine will be a Stralis 4x2. Just need to add some military stuff to the trailer when I get it. -

Well, I said the heck with it and took it out and shot it with OD green. I like it so far. I will have to post some pictures in the build area. -
Military Iveco Stralis Hi-Way?
Oldmopars posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have an Iveco Stralis I have been building for a little bit. I keep running into a blank when it comes to the paint job. So I have been throwing around the idea of painting it OD Green. However, while I have visited the UK/Europe I know very little about the military and don't know if a truck like this would even be used. My plan is to get a 1/24 or 1/25 scale tank(rare) and maybe a 1/24 Land Rover to put on a trailer someday. Would this be totally wrong, or would this be something that is seen on the road in Europe/UK? I guess it would be more Europe then UK as this Iveco is Left hand drive. -
Modelhaus Shasta w/ 60 Chevy SD resin build thread ..
Oldmopars replied to Dale Gribble's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great Idea, but I think you are right, the Shasta looks more like 1/24 or larger and the Chevy 1/25 or smaller. Maybe a 1/24 car or truck would be a better fit. I love the idea though. -
Very cool, I will be following. I have 3 Hubley Fords I am working on. I have at least 2 hours into trimming and sanding on one of them.

65 Chevy Shcool Bus
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thank you. Also, it is done and can bee seen in the "Under Glass" section -
The shifter he is replicating is the Hurst(or clones) that had a finger pull lock out. Stock VWs you had to push the shifter down, then move into reverse. The Hurst style you pulled up on the finger pull and over, not down. These were very popular in the 80-90's, I had a couple in my many Bugs. Looking good MrMike. After owning 36 Aircooled VWs, I have a soft spot for them.

1988 - 1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Scratchbuild
Oldmopars replied to DEL's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I know I was on the list a while back, but I am still wanting one of these(or 2, or 3). My daughter and I love these cars and I would like to do up one for her. She is getting married this next month, so maybe for her 1st anniversary? BTW, she currently drives a 2011 Crown Vic, but she had a 91 that so young kid rear ended and totaled it. -
I totally forgot Curains. However a little background. I was living in a bus when I started this build. I bought some land over in Yakima Wa. and we moved onto it with the paln of putting a house on and live in the bus while we waited. This ended up taking a lot longer than we wanted and we sold the bus and bought an RV because the bus had no insulation and instead of curtains, we used that mylar covered bubble wrap stuff to block the heat in the summer and help keep heat in in the winter. So, our bus never really had curtains, so I guess I forgot them on this one. Pictures are of our 1985 Blue Bird bus with our new 2017 Keystone Bullet Premier 30 REPR in the background

This is going to be a hard cab to chop, but not impossible. I don't know what you are using for a saw, but I would use a quality hobby razor saw, hard back and thin blade. This will give nice straight cuts to work with. I would cut the top off, remove the wanted "Chop" and then cut it into 4 parts. As you go down, the top needs to get wider and longer to cope with the angled A and B pillars. Here is where an extra cab would help with the needed sections to fill the gaps. No matter what you do, this is going to be a lot of work, lots of reshaping and a ton of time.

New project challenge!
Oldmopars replied to Flynlo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am an avid motorcycle rider, I love to ride. I would never ride that thing. I feel much safer on my bike, that on top of that crazy thing. I like to ride in groups, can you imagine how the other riders would feel with that in the group? You either lead and plow a trail, or follow and hope no one stops to fast and you mow them all down. No Thank you -
Well I have finally finished this bus. Its been about 9 months. I started with an ARII Isuzu Bonnet bus, cut the front end off of it and grafted a 1965 Chevy truck nose on. I then shortened it by removing 2 of the windows, one in front of the wheels, and one after. I wanted the Short Bus look. I had to convert it from right hand to left hand drive and it was 1/32 scale. Its now 1/25th. The interior is all scratch built with a stove top, Dorm fridge, dresser and bed. The comforter is a Kleenex that I used thinned green paint on, when I did that it wrinkled up perfectly to look like a comforter. The bus was a curbside, but I put a regular nose on it, so I put a mid 80's small block chevy in it. I figured the original engine would have long ago died and the Hippy that owns it would just put in whatever he could find. I wanted the "Old Bus" look, so I weathered it to look like it has been around the block a few times. I did not want the "Hippy" flowers and tie die look, but an old worn bus look. While it is not perfect, it was a fun challenge to do this much work to it. Its the first full weathered model I have done. So, enjoy, moments welcome.

Looking good. I just got this kit and the Revell 57 Ford wagon. I am surprised (maybe I shouldn't be) that the Revell is a much nicer version of the Ford. No opening doors, but the rest of the model is way better. You did a great job on this one, keep it up.

Progress has been very slow on this one. However I have finally moved out of our RV and into a real house. I have an office with work space for my models. No more working out of a tackle box on an RV table. Still need to get my Air Brush set up, but I am getting there. So, I got some work done on the interior. The interior tub is scratch built, the stock one sucks. I made new door panels as seen in another post and got everything painted and installed today. As you can see, the final color will be some kind of blue or blue/white combo. The dash came out pretty good, but wish I could have sprayed the door panels. You will see I added window cranks and arm rests to the doors.

65 Chevy Shcool Bus
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I keep plugging away at this project. I got the interior finished. I used some tissue painted with some thinned green paint and Future. It caused it to wrinkle up just right as I did it. I also got he engine installed, the old guy that owns this had to replace the engine with one from an 80's Chevy. It is dirty and I wired it. It is hard to see the ignition wires, but they are there as well as the coil. I've got he wheels and tires on, weathered the wheels. I still need to get the grill and the front bumper dechromed and painted white, then weathered. But I am getting there. -
I love this, that movie was so bad, but I still remember it from 30years ago. I would never had thought to do the car. Maybe it was the best "B" movie ever?
