  1. Well I go to church with the guy that owns Rowe Farms, I am sure he will let me take some pictures of his trucks when I am ready.
  2. Nice, an L700 with Cummins. Those have to be few and far between.
  3. It looks like both the OP (Ironman63) and I are building the 1/24 scale Revell 1980 Dodge Ramcharger. And you are correct, those wheels are no good.
  4. For me the idal rims would be something that looked like the stock steel wheel with a dog dish hub cap. All that I have found have been for cars and they won't fit the kits 1/24 scale tires. I might be able to find some generic steel wheels with tires. But not sure where to look. Any suggestions of Resin casters that would have something? It would need to be a stock looking steel 5 lug rim with a stock sized off road style tire. I know Mobius has something close in the Ford 4x4 truck kit, but no caps. I am sure I could find the caps through a resin dealer, but have not found the wheels.
  5. I live in central Washington. Around here they grow fruit, and lots of it. Apple, peaches, pears, cherries, etc. The big fruit companies are all right here, mostly in Yakima where I live, but also in Ellensburg, Wenatchee, and many small towns. During the summer and fall these trucks are all over the road shuttling fruit from the farms to the fruit companies. I want to build one because they represent the area I live in. As you can see, the trucks that haul them are just Plane Jane day cab trucks, fleet type, mostly white, some single some dual drive. No fancy wheels or extra chrome. Just a working truck.
  6. So, this is the only example of what I am looking to build that I could find. These trucks are all over the place here and I want to scratch build the trailer.
  7. I am wanting to build a Day Cab for a project in the near future. I like the Italeri Pete 377 A/E. Does anyone make a Day Cab conversion for this kit? I am going to be making a copy of a local fruit hauling truck and they all use Day Cabs, mostly IHC, Volvo, Pete, etc. I like the Italeri Kits and the 377 fits the bill. 1/24 scale would also be nice for the huge amout of scratch building required for the trailer.
  8. Please let me know if you find anything on the rims. I have been working on my Ramcharger turned into a 75 Plymouth Trailduster. I am almost done, but can't seem to find a rim that looks right for the truck. It is a Forest Service truck and chrome slot mags are just not right.
  9. I have looked at as many pictures as AI can find, looked at the instructions and just can't seem to find what covers the hole in the back of the cab behind the seats. Is there anything.
  10. Wonderful, that will work. Right now I have hit the end of what I can do till the rear axle arrives. Should be here next we. Till then I have made a few other improvements. I added the rear push bumper, it is brass tube on sheet stock brackets. This is where the fishing weights will be stuffed. I added a fuel line up to the carb and some linkage to the other side but still need to fix the hole with a grommet. . Rad hose is in place and the body is all glued down for the last time. I also gave the body a light clear coat with some matte clear. I want it to have a slightly used look, like the car was found at a local used car lot and turned into a Gasser. So the paint is not shinny. When I get the tires(today) and the rear axle (next week I hope) this will be done. I have had a lot of fun with this project and learned a lot about the Gassers of the era.
  11. Cool, crazy, but cool. Leave it to the Japanese to come up with racing Dodge Vans
  12. Looks like I will need to start hunting for a Van kit. The P2P rules look like with give just enough room so that all cars are not just box stock builds. looks like fun.
  13. Well, I am getting closer. I have the interior finished and I got the body painted and decals installed. The first paint job did not turn out well. I went with a blue that was just too bright. It was not something that would have been stock, nor do I think anyone would be stupid enough to paint their car. So, I went with a different color. It is called Ambrosia. It looked like a color that could have been stock, even if it was not. To add some contrast, I painted the wheels red. This is a budget family car with a local small town sponsor so no fancy high dollar wheels. I had some, but they didn't look right. I decided to add some weight to the car in the form of a big truck battery and I will add a tube rear push bumper that will be filled with lead weights for weight transfer. Along with the Ford 9in that will be installed this will push my weight/Cubic in into the B/G class. This way I will be right at the top of the class. I had to check on the decals. I looked up every company to make sure they were in business prior to 1962. While all were, I was not able to verify if the Logo on the decal was correct for the year, but I will just have to assume it was. Most came from the 1958 Chevy kit so I hope they were right for the era. I am still waiting on the 9in rear axle to arrive, so the rear springs are not painted or installed, just sitting on the butchered 40 rear. It will get traction bars once the rear arrives. I know most people think the 3.5 gallon gas tank belongs in the grill, but I just could not find enough pictures from the early 60's with it there to justify it, so it went in the trunk. Anyway, I am getting closer to the finish line.
  14. Who ever said the engine has to stay in the stock location. If you want engine detail, put it in the middle like The Little Red Wagon, only in a van. I think there are a lot of Options. Will Van include Panel truck, Step Van, Cube Vans, Moving trucks (U-Haul), or Sedan Deliveries? Or no Car based vans like the Pinto Sedan Delivery?
  15. Sounds like a Win-Win! Let us know what the rules for the P2P will be. I am looking forward to this. Do we need to post pictures of our in-liners for this years race in any special place? I finished a while back and just need to make sure it is in the right place.
  16. If I understand the rules to the P2P, these are cars made before 1976 and run completely stock, no engine swaps, no custom stuff at all, right? So, if we did the P2P this would mean that anything we build would need to be mostly stock with the only mods being "Rally" related, am I right? So no 454 LSX swapped Gullwing Mercedes or the like?
  17. Does the Lindberg 40 Ford Coupe count? I got one I am working on right now.
  18. I have to say, I love both the P2P idea and the Vannonball Run idea. As a matter of fact, I would do both if they were offered.
  19. I love this idea. And whether we do this instead, or do both, I am in. I even have a couple of kits set aside that would work perfect for this.
  20. For the interior you might try to make a seat frame out of wire, thicker for the out frame and thinner for the springs. Then use some cloth or paper towels to partly cover it and paint to look old and ripped up. You could use ball point pen springs, a lot of them, for the springs in the seats. Use some cotton balls for the padding under the fabric? I would fill the floor with dirt and old car parts. You could even make the top frame out of wire and styrene with bits of the top still hanging on. I may even use these ideas on an old 53 I have.
  21. As I have been building this Gasser I have learned a lot about the early Gasser history. One thing I can't seem to find is a tire history. I know that M&H Race Master tire were around from the 50's. but when did they stop the Pie Crust side walls and go to a smooth side wall. Someone said the Goodyear Blue streaks did not come out till 1964 or 1965? What other tires were out there and when were they produced? Is there anywhere that has a history and timeline for when the different tires were made and what they looked like? Google has not been much help this time.
  22. Well, in a way, yes. I took the rear half and used it to make a flatbed. I extended the frame and moved the axle rearward. I think it will better represent the double duty truck that I wanted. I want it to look like a farm rig that is used to haul the family race car to the track on Sundays. I don't have any pictures, but I fixed the rear axle. The way it is from the kit the axles are weak and misshapen. I cut off and drilled out the axles and replaced it with .125 Evergreen tube. I pushed it into the axle about .5in to make sure that it is strong. Way better than the way the kit has it.
  23. I have been moving a little slow on this, but I did get some work done on the seats. I figured that in 62 there was no Simpsons seat belts, or if they were around, Air Craft seat belts were way more affordable and available. So, I put a set on the drivers side only as the Ford would not have had them factory or needed them for racing. Added a little weathering to the seats too. Got a little paint on the dash too. I also mocked up the truck that it will be paired with.
  24. Looks cool, are you going to put the motor in it?
  25. So, I am working on a new project. My plan is to build a L700 and put the 40 Ford that came with it on the trailer. However the Ford is really bad and so I decided to make it a period Gasser from 1962. I have the build for that here: As for the L700, I have started it. I have spent a bunch of time first getting the stance correct so it does not look like a stink bug. I also got the doors fitted before the paint so I could make sure they fit right.
