I know it sounds crazy, but it is for a very special project. See this post: I am going to make this kind of truck and the frame will need to go all the way from the front to the back. I am going to use a 40 foot trailer box as the base, the "Cab" will be added to the front of that. It may not end up being 48 foot long, but will be close.

What I would like to find is at least 10mm or 3/8in, but would prefer 1/2in or 12-13mm. I may have to have it cut out of flat sheet and make it myself. I like the idea of brass, but I would have to get sheet the right length, draw up the frame and related cross members and have them cutout for me. The I would need to solder it all together. It would be stronger, but I don't really need that much strength.

Scania Streamline rebuild.
Oldmopars replied to Kostas Parchas's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yellow is a pain, you did a good job. I have only done 2 trucks in yellow. Both were school bus yellow, one was heavy weathered and rusted the other a Septic truck. I will never paint any model pale yellow, too much work to get it to look good. You did a great job, yours look great. -
I know the 300 I6 was not very popular in the F350, however if you ever see those stair trucks at the air port or at a military base, they had them as well as the fleet service (poop removal) trucks. I used to see a lot of F350 trucks in the military with the 300 I6. We even had those super short flight-line tugs with a 300 I6 in them and they are all F350 Duallies. Flight-line vehicle were limited to 15MPH, so speed was not an issue. In the civilian customer world, I don't think many were sold, but they could be had.

Mercedes MP3 Ghost Busters edition
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
engine pictures. I added foil beside the engine to simulate the reflective foil on the real trucks. other than that it is basically just a stock build -
Ok, so there was never a Ghost Busters Edition of this truck, I got to the end of the build and the spot on the cab looked empty. So, I browsed my extra decals and these just jumped out at me. So, here it is, it is build box stock minus the extra roof top and side deflectors. I wanted this to look like a working truck, not a show truck. So, the bumper and grill area are grey, like the grey plastic of the lower trim trucks. No chrome, no flashy paint, just what a normal guy in Britain would drive every day. I did a very light weathering on the frame, mostly to show details. The cab fit on this this was one of the worst I have seen. I played and played with it to get the cab to be able to tilt, but no can do, so I took pictures with the cab off of the engine, and with the cab on. This was a RoG version, but it is the same truck as the Italeri offerings. If you want a good challenge, this is it. I normally enjoy Italeri truck builds, but this on fought me the whole way. Even the paint gave me issues. I painted the white, then the red, then clear. Once the clear hit the red, it all wrinkled. I had to strip and redo the red. Oh well. It was still fun and that is why we do this to ourselves. Enjoy

So, I grew up in Oregon and I remember seeing these odd trucks running around. I also remember that they were made in Oregon. The truck is the Hendrickson Paymaster. I know there have been posts of the Ryder R-100 Paymaster that was built with a contract from Ryder, but I never saw these, the ones I saw were all log trucks or OTR type long haul stuff. I have located some pictures and wanted to post them here. The fist 4 are the ones I saw a lot of, the 5th on is from a town not far from me, so I am sure I saw this one at least one or twice. I could see the Hwy from my house and these truck would pass by all the time. Maybe someday I would build one in scale. Could be a fun project. As a side note, the truck in picture #2 must have been on the road a while, the Lincoln in the background is a early 90" and does not look new, the Ford truck looks to be mid 90's. It is the same truck as #3, but showing faded and rock chipped paint.

The nice thing about this is that it is a phantom truck, none exist and so I can build it how I want and nobody can say its wrong.

I love the 2CV, great cars, your 1:24 and 1:1 both look great. Have fun with a very unique car.

I have decided to go ahead with this, however I think I am going to make it Vintage/Retro Mercedes. I want to make a truck like the one in the picture you posted, with a nose that has the feel of the pictures below. It will still have 2 drive axles out back, 2 steer axles in the front and the engine will either be tucked under the middle, in the back like a GM bus, or laid flat if I can find the right Mercedes 6 Cyl. If I use a V6/V8 it will stay upright. Because I am making a Fantom truck to begin with, I could take any 6 cal (Scania, Mann, etc) and use the valve covers off the Mercedes engine and make a Fantom 6 cyl Mercedes. I want the cab to be large, to be able to have a sleeper as part of it. With as tall as it may end up being, the sleeper may go under the main cab and have a really high driving position. Or, go the other way and have the drive low, with the sleeper on top. But thinking driver high, sleeper low for now.

I am going to be building a cab for a truck, it will be a fantom truck, nothing that exists in real life. With this in mind I have a lot of flexibility on the details. I would like it to be made out of as few parts as possible for the main cab. Details will be added, but the structure should be one piece to give structure. My thoughts so far are to mold it from clay, foam and clay, wood and Bondo, or foam and Bondo. Then I would either vacuum form it, or use fiberglass and mold it that way. The pictures below are the idea I am looking for, I am not going to replicate any one of these exactly, just the basic feel. Again, it will be a fantom truck cab. It will also not need a back, the back will be taken care of another way. Yes, it is going to be a Mercedes Truck. I am going to attach the "nose" to a trailer to make a 40 foot long truck. Like shown in this post: I have found a Mercedes truck with trailer from Italeri that will have most of the structure I need as well as the drive train. I will be building the Nose on the front. What would be your suggestion on how to make the "nose" for this truck?

Congrats to DA_ASHMAN, great job on a great build. Hope to see you next year.

Great job, looks very nice

I think you have just inspired a future build. I am thinking this concept, but with a little more art-deco feel. Like it was for a "Trucks of the Future" show back in 1952. A cross between this and the GM Futureliner.

No copy rights here, feel free to copy anything you want. Thank you everyone for all the comments. I can only get them done that quick because I get a lot of bench time. I am lucky and work from home. My "work" is done from the same desk as my models. Computer and phone at one end, models at the other. I help customers fix problems with industrial machines. Tech Support. While I listen to them talk, I keep my hands busy doing this. I have ADHD and this helps keep me from going crazy. I sometimes sit for 20 minutes at a time waiting for the customer to pull something apart and put it back together to test an issue. Models keep me same and from hitting the end of the internet.

MPC Open Roadster Corvette has a set, I sent them to another member here. It also has a set with the caps. -
Well, this has been a fun build, but I am finished. I have way too many hours in my day to spend building. Anyway, check it out in the "Under Glass" section. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/138229-peking-to-paris-41-plymouth-rally-car/

So, this is my entry into the P2P community build. If you don't know, the P2P is a race from Peking to Paris in Vintage cars, pre-76. I chose a 1941 Plymouth for this race. So, these are the things that I changed, added or modified to make it a race car. For the body, I opened up the fenders, removed the running boards and opened the trunk. Trunk lid was covered in fabric to simulate a skeleton frame with vinyl/fabric cover to save weight. Aluminum Fuel cell in the trunk as well as a second spare tire, chain and a tarp. Suspension was lifted2in front 3 rear for added clearance, custom rear shock mounts and shocks. Skid plate under engine. Stock engine modified with a 4 barrel carb and a open air cleaner, real world this would be a 242 Desoto engine with stroker crank and a low compression for the bad fuel they would encounter. 5 speed Tremic T5 from a Ford was swapped out, new custom mounts fabricated. Wheels and tires are from the AMT rescue van, off road AT tires front and rear. Mud flaps on all 4 wheels made from painters tape. Hood is flat black to reduce the glare, all stock chrome was left and BMF'ed. Scratch built roof rack. Scratch built tool box and 2 sleeping bags for camping. Driving lights for night driving. The interior has been fitted with seats from a Plymouth Prowler, Satellite Phone on the custom center console, CB radio, custom steering wheel, 4 point harness and roll bar, rear seat was removed and replaced with a flat cargo area. I am sure there were other things that I changed of modified, but that is all I can think of right now. I have to say that some of my favorite builds are the ones that I have done for a Community build or other build where I am building to replicate a vehicle that "could have been" like this car, my Cannonball Septic truck, 40 Ford Gasser, etc. Hope you enjoy. Also a big thank you to Pete J. for the awesome decals he supplied.

Does the body have the openings cut. Not going to buy the kit just for the glass, I can make that. But if it is cut, that would be nice.

AMT '60 Chevy Custom Fleetside
Oldmopars replied to MachinistMark's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
BTW, how do these compare to the Revell 64 Chevy truck? I see the top of the cab is the same design. I want to build a copy of my 1:1. Its a 65 Chevy long bed fleetside with a 230 inline 6. So, I think I will need 3 kits to make it happen. 1 AMT for the engine, 2 Revells to get the bed right. -

Kind of funny, On my Cannonball Septic truck entry, I used JL5-2020, from the Ghost Busters. Nobody caught it yet. Who ya gonna call?
