MAN, that's some truck!
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I discovered that it used to be that way in the USA also, till the late 70's when the regulations were changed. That is why the COE trucks were so popular in the 60's-70's, and now there are very few being made. It had to do with overall length and a short COE truck could haul a longer trailer and more cargo, more cargo per load meant more money per load. -
What about the judging of TAT2018?

They are amazing, great details. Even the hubs are super detailed. Way better than anything that has come in a AMT/MPC kit.

Looks like the 4X4 Chevy van is a common theme this year. It will be fun to see the different ideas unfold. Clearly gas mileage was not the goal this year.

OK, I'm in again this year. My plan, been gathering parts for about a month, is a 4X4 Chevy G30. This will be a "Ultimate Adventure" off road camper van. I plan for a real 70's vibe as far as the colors and interior style. Parts included are the AMT Rescue Van. B-N-L Resins Dana 60 front and rear, HD transfer case, and front bumper with winch. Scenes Unlimited M41 8 Lug stock Chevy truck wheels with Warn Hubs, and T51 16" Snow Lugger tires. Odds and ends for a couple Chevy truck kits. At this point I am not too sure if I will leave the wheels just as steelies, or if I will drill out the stock hub caps from the kit and use them for a more "Factory" look. And Yes it will get a high roof too. Still working on getting that nailed down.

Yes, I am building a Day Cab version of this truck. I am not a big fan of the goofy high roof these have. Too much of an after thought. -
Looking for info on Cummins NHH 220
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am sure on the newer engines that is very true. This is an engine from the 50's and while they had that technology back then, it was mostly used in race cars and things that would corner fast or be on steep angles. My guess would be that for a lumbering old low speed truck like this, they would just have an odd shaped oil pan, but I could be wrong, one of the reasons I am looking for pictures of that side of the engine. I have found these, but none of them are NHH-220. -
This may be an option. As of today I have acquired a box of old truck models(all built and from the 80's). Included in it are 2 White Freightliner trucks. I do not need them as I already have an SD and a SD/DD kit. I think these will end up donating the frame rails suspension and engine to the cause. I also have the spare new frame form the SD/DD kit as I am going to build it as a DD. In this box of old kits is a 35-40 foot trailer and 2 shorter trailers. They will donate to the cause also. What was going to cost me a lot of money in kits, is now going to be much more reasonable.

You are correct, but to be fair, I don't think this guy lives in, or has every been to the USA. I think all his info is through the WWW. This is in no way a put down, I think he did a great job and I think most of use would have missed those minor details also. I love how he use the aluminum to create dented panels.

Well, it is a MAN truck. I got this on a great sale and figured I could make it something cool. The kit is a 6x4 and has a high roof and sleeper. To me the roof looks funny and the sleeper without the top is not right. So, I started with the roof, I took it off, shortened the cab and made a new roof. I was a bit frustrated by the total lack of pictures of the roof from the top. Seems all the pictures people take are from ground level and the roof can't bee seen, so I have had to guess as to what the roof might look like, but I think it is close. I have a little more to do on the cab, but it is close. I had to cut down the roof inside and make it into a headliner as apposed to a high roof. I also cut down the interior floor. Plan is to make it a flat bed, unless I find something that turns me on more. So, here is where it is at right now.

Looking for info on Cummins NHH 220
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can only see 3 of the images, but the one marked Fig 6 is perfect. Do you have any more like this one, maybe a NHH non turbo? I did not plan to use the NHHT, just the NHH, but I suppose I could add the turbo, it is a phantom build anyway. The truck I am building will be a phantom that "could" have been made by Fageol in the mid 50's. I think the NHHT was a little later. -
I have spent a lot of time searching on Google and every link I can find, but not finding much. The NHH 220, NHH250, NHH195 and NHHT 220 seem to all be of the same family of the NHC 250 that is found in the White Freightliner SD/DD kit. However, the second H I believe means "Horizontal" as this engine was used in buses with a flat floor and the engine was laid on its side. I have only found one good picture of it. Does anyone have any more pictures or info? I plan to put this in my Frageol/Road King Truck as these would have been right for the truck I want to make. Any info would be great. I can use the NHC as a doner, I just want to know what the oil pan, intake, exhaust etc. look like. https://www.flickr.com/photos/vanopolis/15172155655/

Revell '78 GMC 4wd-to-2wd conversion?
Oldmopars replied to brodie_83's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT Rescue van is correct, the 64-66 Chevy C10 would also be a good donor. For the Rescue van, the upper arms will have to be cut off the frame, but the rest is not bad. I am converting one of my vans to a 4X4 so I will be cutting it off. Let me know if you need it. Be aware, it is 1/25 scale. -
L700 question, hole behind the seats
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I decided to just cover it up with sheet stock. I may scribe a "Door" in it, but for now it is just covered. It just looked wrong, even if it was right. -
I like the 5 spokes also. The first ones just seem out of place, the last ones look OK, but the 5 spokes look best.

Revell 69 Charger R/T vs. Revell Pro Modeler 69 Charger R/T
Oldmopars replied to crowe-t's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Now see, I build mine as a General Lee many years back, and I just now found out the roof is wrong. I had the Old pro modeler version. Think its too late to ask for a corrected body? -
That is a good idea. I am not sure I will need to add that much stiffness beyond the cross members. The frame will be attached to a box trailer and it will get stiffness from that. There will only be a few inches that will be unsupported by the box, and it will hold the "Cab" section on the front. If this was going to be a Tractor style truck, it would need more support, but this is going to be more like a Bus, than a truck.

Any old Hubley metal builders out there?
Oldmopars replied to greg133's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a couple that I am working on. I built them with my Dad back in the 70's. I would go to work with him and we would build the models, all Hubley metal Model As. He owned a company restoring Model As. He died in 99 and so I am building these because of the memories of my Dad. Are you wanting someone to build them for you? Or, what are you asking for? -
Gatorade Chevelle and Regal - Built 30 years ago
Oldmopars replied to <profile removed>'s topic in WIP: NASCAR
I would be proud of those if I built them today, they look great. Very nicely done.
