Now that will be cool. great job.

I made some progress on the interior. I wanted it to have a full interior with a bathroom in the rear, so I made an enclosed toilet. I found a portal window in the kit and it is the perfect size and shape for a little camper sink. I still need to make a faucet. The stove will be in the closed position and so I covered it with some BMF. All the doors with get handles and trim, and the fridge, the square cornered one, will get a rim of BMF around the outside. All the other doors are round cornered like the Westy's from the 60-80's. Things are still a little rough and need some finish sanding, but it is getting there.

I am building an S-Series 2674 and was looking at a nicely finished 4300 in the Under Glass section. To me it looks like they share a lot of parts. Are the frame, engine and chassis parts all the same? If so this will be helpful to replace the broken parts as I just got a 4300 kit and I know they are still available.

That this is awsome, very well done. Care to share how you do your weathering, like the ripped seats and the flaky rust?

I learned to drive in one of these. I love it. Wish I had a real one today. Very nicely done.

Its Landman's build, but I agree, they look good.

VOLVO F7 Toter Truck for Mobile-homes

Great job, that thing is perfect. My favorite line from that move: "green means go, red means stop, and yellow means go very, very fast" Great job on that truck. -
So, this will be my build thread for the B.R.B.O. I am starting with a pile of someone eases problems. I got these kits in a deal from a forum member here. Very happy with the stuff I got and in it was these 3 built up kits. All have some bit of damage, all 3 need to be rebuilt, and lucky for me the Cat D8H was never painted, the cab/body of the F2674 was never painted and the trailer was painted, but done well. The D8H will not be completely disassembled, I am afraid I will break too many parts. So, I plan to do as little disassembly as possible. I will remove the engine to paint and detail it. Then I will paint and detail the rest. Lucky for me, these things came from the factory all one color, so there is no need to break it apart. The trailer will go for a dunk in the pond, get stripped and redone. I will pull most parts off, but leave the main deck together for painting. The truck (F2674) is going to require a lot more work. Just getting this thing apart is going to be a challenge. It is a mild glue bomb. Nothing that will require too much work to fix, but still a chore to get it to a point that I can start the rebuild. Also the frame has been broken and will need to be fixed. With it being in pretty good shape and as hard to find as these things are I feel it is worth it to invest the time in a proper rebuild. I think all the parts are there, we soon shall see.

Oshkosh M 1070
Oldmopars replied to Grzegorz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I know it is a different scale, and a slightly different truck, it may give you some inspiration. Looks like a huge project, I am looking forward to seeing it. I would love to see it in 1/25 or 1/24 scale. -
Trying to copy my son's 1:1 pickup

If you find out please post it back here. I also need one fr a project I have been working on. The Deserter GMC grill is OK, but does not match my 84 Chevy K30 truck. -

Please remove the Green tape from your hobby area. This tape is good for painting the walls in the bathroom, but it will give you more problems with you models than you want to deal with. I have had it mess up good paint that was under it. It does not stick well, it makes very poor lines, it screws up any paint it touches, etc. Get good Tamyia tape and forget the green stuff -
Styrene casting test, not a complete failure
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I came to the same conclusion, I wanted a way to replicate just one part without a huge hassle. I have found that the Epoxy was a little better in some ways, but requires I use CA glue to put things together. I would never try to replicate a large item, or a large number of items this way. But, it can be done and it does work in a very small scale. -
Styrene casting test, not a complete failure

Well, more playing around. I got some of that molding polymer that you melt in hot water and form around stuff. (See Blue Stuff). I then used my melted (In MEK) styrene and molded a new door handle for my Van, I am changing the sliding door to a pair of singing doors and needed a new style handle. It worked very well. I poured in a large amount of styrene so that as it set and the MEK left, there would be enough left for my handle. It worked great. I let it dry for a day and now I have a very nice styrene door handle. I know this does have limited uses, but this worked for me. I also cast the same thing with Epoxy and now with Superglue/CA. Going to see what one I like the best. -
Ok, so another thing about these vans started to bother me as I looked at the pictures. I could not help but notice that the body line right below the drip rail is completely missing. Also, the rip rail is barely there at all. So I found pictures of the early 70's G10's and from day one they had the body line below the drip rail. So, I had to add it back in and at the same time I added to the drip rail. A little putty, a little sanding and she will be looking better. I also scribed the missing fender seam at the front edge of the door. Still need to do the one at the top of the fender. Still not sure if the hood is coming off or not. I then cut out the side window. I am getting close to shooting this thing with primer. I am glad I will be going with a 70's medium brown, the red has been a little hard to cover so far on the roof.

I like it, its looking great. I love the added snorkel. And as a huge slant 6 fan (I know that is weird) this build is striking a cord with me.
-
Very cool. Do you plan to add the black rubber marks from all the prior races? Having that would add to the realism.
-
I did not like that there is no real interior other than seats and dash. There are no door panels. So, I scratched up some basic door panels. I also added some details to the side. I was not happy with the one door with the vent, so I added some slats and then I made the door for the heater. I will add window crank and door handle later, after paint. Time to cut the side window out.
-
Still messing around with the Ultimate Adventure Van. I am adding details to the exterior that a camper would have. Things like the vent and door for the fridge, water heater, water fill port, power cable inlet, heater door and a few other details. I will be adding an awning too. All the extra doors and fittings get painted body color, then a few will get a silver trim around them and some decals. I am going for something like the picture of the rear thing.
-
I got a little more done on the van today and yesterday. I had planned all along to cut out the doors and change the side door to 2 side doors. They were more common on camper vans. I got them cut out, cut the valance off the rear of the floor and added it back to the van to give it some structure. I have also added some structure to the inside to hold the paneling on the sides of the interior. I added the paneling and will be working on the front door panels this next week.

No problem. At first I was just looking at the roof from the Man F2000 and thought it might work, then I decided the worst that could happen is I would screw it up and you would have a 3D one for me. As it turns out, it is looking just fine and while not a replica of any one high roof, it captures the feel of the Open Road and others from the era. So, thank you for at least considering it and its no problem, I totally understand time issues. While I am not the one making the rules, I see no reason why not. There are right hand drive cars in the USA, they have been imported. As long as they were imported legally they can be driven on the roads here.

Well, I'm in. For right now put me down for a ERTL International F2674 with lowboy flat bed and a Cat DH8 Dozer. All of these will be complete rebuilds from original kits that are in bad need of rebuilds. I got them as part of a collection of stuff and I love the combination that they will make, I just hope I have the time to rebuild all 3.

Fageol Superliner/Road King
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yes I am sure it would, and if I could find one super cheap I would get it, but I have this one right now and so I am going with it. Got one you want to part with? -
Fageol Superliner/Road King
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I have not made a huge amount of progress on this, but I did get the cab partly mocked up. I made this out of cardboard so I could play with it and get things right before I cut it out of Styrene. I still have some things to get figured out, but I think this will be the basic design. The cab will be divided as you can see. The bottom half will be the drivers area, the top half will have a sleeper. There will be a ladder that goes up to the top sleeper and there will be at least one bed, maybe 2. There is a lot of space to fill and I need to decide how to fill it. There will be more that hangs down in the front and it will slope down to meet the skirts that will be on the sides in the back. The truck will have full skirts all the way around. The rear (Cargo box) will get sheeted with thin styrene to give it smooth sides and match the cab, then the lower part will get Evergreen Metal Siding .080 spacing and that will get covered with chrome. I have not decided yet if it will extend around the front, or if it will get terminated in some form of a curved design before the cab. We shall see.
