Datsun 620 Pickup
Oldmopars replied to afx's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Any updates on this? I would love to see it. This is a great build -
I wish it had been a CJ-7, it is supposed to be, that is what she drove. But the kit is a later tool of the kit you have. Take a look at one, right down to the hood hinges it is the same kit. They removed the trailer and re-released it several more times, and twice as a Daisy Duke Jeep. See: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/1072736-mpc-1-0709-jeep-cj5 When it was retooled, it lost the Military stuff, like the tool box by the window, the round NATO plug on the side, the dash was changed to a civilian type, etc. But the basic CJ5/M38A-1 kit is still the same. I wish it had been a CJ7, that is what I wanted, but the only CJ7 is a Monogram 1/24 scale that is out of production.

Class 325 is Complete

Absolutely insane, your work is amazing. I love it. Hats off to you. -
Some time back I got this kit from the Goodwill for $6. It looked OK at the store, but when I got it home I found that it was a partial glue bomb with a few parts missing. The person who had it had glued the engine together with too much glue and done a poor job and even glued the water pump on up side down. The truck insert was held in with a massive glue blob that left a huge chunk behind when I pulled it apart. The front suspension was partly missing and the rear diff was gone. Other than these things the kit was all there and unassembled. I was able to get the front suspension parts I needed from another member here. (Thank you gardnerpag44) However I did not know I was missing the rear diff at the time. So, I dug through my parts box and the only diff I have is for a 80's Ford T-Bird. So, I cut out the center and put it in the Chevy axles. I know, I know, sacrilege. But, it fits and looks fine. Due to the trunk plate being destroyed and the fact that the kit has a spare tire well, but the tire is sitting flat in the trunk, I cut out the floor and removed the spare, then will remount it over the spare tire well molded into the base. I am dropping the ride height and putting on some Torq Thrust style wheels from another kit. I am going for a mild custom-daily driver type car. Paint as of right now will be a red lightly sprayed over a silver base to get the Candy look. I did it with blue on my 359 Pete and I loved the look. Interior will remain factory with the red check pattern. Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and details in this kit. A very well done and fun kit to build. The details are really amazing even with the few flaws it has. Anyway, here is the start.

So, I have more done. Because it is a Government truck, it would be in good shape, body would be nice and cleaned regularly, but the underside would still be dirty from use. As most Gov trucks, they get washed on the outside, but not the engine or frame. So, that is how I have this one. I still have a bit to do, I need to find the right wheels. Right now it is just sitting on the chrome ones, but they will not stay. If anyone has some suggestions of where to get the right stock Dodge steel wheels in a 1:24 truck size, let me know. I know where to get the decals, but have not ordered them yet. Air cleaner still needs paint too. I painted the spare, but it is drying.

Cool idea, it looks great. I think it is very Rat-Rod, even with no rust.

Rico, looks like I will be buying more from you. As I said earlier, this kit is bad. Your grill will help it out a lot. If its as good as your Ramchager grill and hood, it will be awesome.

So, I am moving forward finally on this. I have had it in the box for months. I got the interior finished, added the Radio to a bracket and put it on the hump like it would be in a FS truck. I also added a coffee cup and clip board. I have added a bit of dust and wear to the interior just to make it look like it has been used, but not abused. I live in the desert and I figure I will make this look like a desert/high desert truck. I still need to add some details and dirt to the chassis. The cup and the clip board are both scratch built.

I have not glued in the grill yet, I still have a lot of details to do on the rest of the truck first, it was just sitting in there. As for the headlights, they were left overs from a Italari kit, either a Scania 143 or a Iveco Stralis. They were in my parts box. They were clear with no detail on them, so I carefully scratched them one way then turned 90 degrees on some rough sand paper to give them some cross hatch fluting. However it did not show up well because I used some clear Elmers glue and the details went away. I also used Molotow Chrome behind them. The next one I do, I may use BMF on the grill to give it a more Aluminum look. I painted this one and it looks good, but could be better with BMF, it will just be hard with all the details.

Ford dump truck
Oldmopars replied to fordf-100's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks great, and not a common build. I think the color looks good. While many would have been fleet white, this could have been a dually someone converted to a dump years down the road. It happens on the 1:1 all the time. I own a 1:1 Chevy with service box, and it is Fire Engine Red, literally. It came from a local fire department. So, anything goes for color. -
Looks like we should have swapped kits. I got the Daisy Duke Jeep and tried to convert the Civilian tool of this kit to a M38A-1 and you converted the M38A-1 to a civilian jeep. I got the Daisy Jeep to build as the TV Jeep, but the kit is not even close, so I went with the M38A-1 theme. Next time I will just buy a Revell CJ7 for Dasiy's Jeep, and the kit you got for a M38A-1. I do like where you are going with this kit, its looking good.

Looks great, nicely done. I love the details. I had a chance to buy one of these back in the 80's. I wish I had now. It was at a dealer I worked at and I used to drive it all the time. Love those 240-260's

You did a great job, looks good. As for suggestions, you might want to use a flat clear and dirty the wheels. maybe even a little rust to the bumpers.

OK, OK, I know, the Forest Service would have used a Dodge, not a Plymouth. But in my world it could have happened. So, to that end I am making a 1974 FS Trailduster. The kit I got about a year ago from HL on a clearance. However the hood and grill on the 1980 just looks like POO. I love the early Ramchargers, and the late ones too, but the 1980 was a transition year and the parts do not look good together, and the grill is just an abomination. So, a member here, Rico offered to draw a grill and hood that could be printed from Shapeways. He does great work and I will buy more from him. Well, no one offers "Forest Service Green", so I mixed a little vallejo 70.891 Intermediate green with white and it is really close. I had to remove all the "Ramcharger" badges as well as the side trim, but left the lower trim because I like the look. Too slab sided without it. So, much left to do, but here is where I am at right now.

Well, I am making progress on this one. Here is the truck with the Plymouth grill in it. I would have to say, don't bother with the headlights. The Shapeways Frosted Ultra Detail is way to frosted to male good headlights. I tried to polish them, hit them with Future, clear, etc. Nothing worked. I just used some from another kit I had. The hood is not pictured here but it is done. I had to use a lot of filler to get the printed lines to not show through the paint. I also added under structure to it to keep it from a reversed curve. All in all I am thrilled with the parts and will buy them again. Rico does fantastic work. I am only pointing these things out so that anyone buying them does not expect that they are like kit parts. They are not injection molded, but printed in layers and this does cause problems. As of right now, you can not print "optically clear" parts, or print without layers. It in the nature of the beast.

need help locating Forest Service Green

Thanks guys, I will give these suggestions a try. I do have some HL green acrylic that I may try to add white to, to get the right shade. -

I am painting it Green, because the vehicle I am doing is a 1974, it would not have been white in 1974. I will look for the Jade green. Thanks -
I just looked it up, it was not Yamaha like the SHO, it was the Essex 3.8l V6. and had 210HP 315FT/LB torque. Cool car for the day when everything else could not get out of its own way.
