  1. Just received my trade from KevinMoparFord, great experience.
  2. I'm actually pretty excited about this. I've been wanting to build a Revell Challenger ever since I saw it compared to the AMT release in, well, the other magazine. just needed the right excuse to pick the kit up.
  3. Wasn't the saying about the GN and GNX was that, "You can get it in any color you want, as long as it's black."? I'm sure there were a few people with enough money and desire to make theirs stand out to drive the car from the dealership lot to the paint booth.
  4. I really dig the paint scheme carried into the interior.
  5. I like the concept you had and I think you pulled it off great!
  6. That's awesome! I dig it! The weathering is great. It's not super dirty but it's definately taken a few trips through some wormholes.
  7. I always loved the tear away paint scheme on this car. You did a great job replicating it. Looks like a fun decal job!
  8. I dig this car. Looks like your on your way to a nice replica of it!
  9. Yup Brodie, down here in Southern MN. I was just up in Duluth on vacation about a month ago. Gonna be in Gilbert later in July. Thanks for the kudos everyone, it was nice to finish a model again finally. (I've been waiting to post something in "under glass")! This is a great site for inspiration and the tips and advice definitely helped this build stay on track as well as kept it fun.
  10. Glued the last piece on and put on the last dab of paint this morning. Just in time to haul it to a model show! Build thread http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56591 Thanks for looking.
  11. Ha ha like I said, the Monte Carlo will live on. The damaged spots aren't pretty but they're not as bad as I thought. I got them fixed, put the interior tub in and attached the body to the chassis. The only issue I had was the upper radiator hose didn't reach it's destination. With it attached to the proper spot on the intake manifold it wasn't long enough to reach the radiator. I added a little extra plastic to bridge the gap, applied a little strip of tape to simulate the hose clamp, slapped on some paint, and she was good to be called done! Just a little extra was needed. added a small amount of clear glue to make sure it doesn't let go over time. post paint, looks like a part right out of the box! Fin! Here's the worst of the damage. I managed to hide the other spots very well. And the best part, I made it to the model show today! Thanks for watching friends!
  12. The repairs are underway. Still not too excited but I'll be able to make the damage less noticeable. One thing I'll say is that when it's all said and done the model will have survived this whole ordeal, unlike the bat who caused it.
  13. I could not be any more frustrated! I'm almost done with this project and I wanted to enter it in a show coming up. I was fitting the windows tonight, holding the body up against my chest to steady it, and a bat that had gotten into my basement swooped down from the corner of the room. I dropped the Monte Carlo body. The paint is chipped in a few spots and the driver side mirror broke off. I was really proud of the paint on this project. I printed out a tutorial and it helped a great deal. Wasn't a perfect paint job but sure was the best one I've ever put down on a model car. On to the carnage. I still want to finish it by this weekend but I have a feeling my motivation has suffered after this incident.
  14. I built this kit Quite a few years ago. Always had fun building the Monogram Cup cars. Unfortunately I rushed the body to get it entered into a contest and the result wasn't great. The one thing I didn't like about the first Monte Carlo kits was how the body curled in at the bottom of the rocker panels. Before they started making the kits with the slab style bodies I decided I was going to finish another body and take much more time on it. Well, umteen years later, I pulled this puppy out of storage and figured all the hard work was already done. All I had to do was clean it up and get some paint and decals on it. On to the progress. . . Here's the extra material to make the body continue straight down. And the rear got some attention as well. This is how it looked when I pulled it out of storage. Ready for some detail painting. Out with the old and (almost) in with the new! I've got a set of Slixx decals to go on the new body.
  15. Love the pose! cool to see a model that looks like it's moving while sitting on the table!
  16. Bob, as much as this project may be frustrating you, I say it's worth it. I think it is awesome! The Beretta body style really looks mean widened and wrapped around that roll cage.
  17. She's getting close! There's only a couple pieces left in the box that aren't glued to something. Spent the last two days detailing under the hood. Hope to get the window trim and chrome exterior pieces done soon so I can hit it with some clear and put the three main sub assemblies together!
  18. Amazing work! I love the interior details.
  19. Thanks Bryan, I'll have to try that tip. Kirt, a fine brush for the knobs and a carefully placed black wash for the vent details as well as to pick up on some of the smaller details. Thankfully a decal for the gauge cluster is provided in the kit. The engine detail was pretty basic. I grew up around an engine shop and always loved that part of building a model. Not brave enough yet to wire a 24th scale engine but I'm sure in time that will happen. The best way to make a model car engine look better is grab a bunch of different metallic paints. Different parts of an engine, although made of the same stuff, are machined and put together differently. The aluminum of the transmission casing is going to look different than the intake manifold or heads if they're aluminum. Using different manufacturer's "aluminum" paint, or shooting a clear flat coat over some silver will add some contrast to the different parts, and ultimately, give the model a more realistic look. I'm just waiting out the weather so I can get the body finished. Today would have been great day to paint but of course I was stuck at work. :-P
  20. Great day for painting today. I got a bunch of projects prepped and hit with primer, some even painted, including. . . The Monte! These pictures show the the color a little better but it looks darker like in the first picture. The color I found was a nissan color "Burgundy Berry Metallic", but I just didn't like the GM options I had available. I just browsed the touch up isle at Auto Zone.
  21. Plugging away at her! Niko, here's the carburetor. I spent a few hours on the tire lettering and was pretty darn proud I kept most of the paint where I wanted it! (I also kind of dig this look, reminds me of all the cars at shows with their tires drenched in armorall). But then I got a too excited with the second layer of dullcoat, and put it on a little too heavy. the White paint spread in some areas. The chassis is mostly completed. . . and all four tires touch the table! Close up of the rear suspension. I suppose I did add the Bilstein decals from a Nascar kit as well so not totally box stock. :-P The body is mostly prepped for hopefully the final coat of primer and paint. I did all the previous coats of primer and sanding with the mirrors off and now that I put them on I'm super paranoid about how to handle it for the rest of the build. Cross your fingers for me!
  22. The gunmetal on black looks very sinister! I like that combo. Looking good!
  23. Thanks for the compliments. I'm not afraid of constructive criticism so if you have any suggestions or tips your input is welcomed. The paint is Rustoleum spray enamels with Testors bottles for details. The interior was shot all gloss red and then semi gloss clear for the vinyl and matt clear for the fabric. Got the wheels painted tonight and a clear coat on the tires. Figured since the car will be darker painting the white lettering will help add a little contrast. still shopping for the body color. I found one that I like in the dupli color lacquer sprays but I gotta browse hobby lobby's model paint section before I decide. The decals in this kit are pretty fragile, would spraying some decal maker on them help or is there a better method?
  24. Started this a couple months back. Been taking a few progress pics but haven't gotten them on the computer to post. I'm building this to try and get some momentum at my work bench. I've had a few projects I took too seriously and they ended up stalling out. This build is almost box stock with just some basic detail painting. Was going to do the classic black paint scheme but I saw a picture of one online that was dark red and I really liked it so pretty sure that's the route I'm going to take with the body. The only deviation from the box parts was the exhaust, it was fairly plain to start with. So I chopped the tips off and replaced them with some leftovers from a Lamborghini kit. I think this fits style of the car much better. Some engine detail. Suspension sub assemblies. And the interior bucket. As soon as I get some good painting weather she should go together quickly!
  25. Hey, this thread wasn't a complete waste. I've never seen one of those kits before. After doin a little ebay searching I picked one up to strip down and build back up. Thanks hachey for tipping me off to this kit!
