I will probably bring some kits to trade. I will get a picture of them up here as soon as I can to see if anyone is interested in them.

A friend of mine and I picked up a few snap together kits to work on throughout the day so we should be easy to spot. We each only have one kit to enter into the show, my house remodel had the work bench shut down for way too long! Looking forward to meeting some people from here as well.

One of my favorite movie cars. I dig Chevelles and it's name just has a certain ring to it. ;-) Your interior looks great, can't wait to see more progress.

I'm planning on being there.

The stripes are amazing! You gotta do the rear stripes too.I bet it's super tedious but the concentration and time I bet you put into them shows! -
I love the color, and the stance is perfect for that car! Very cool model.

I just completed a trade with Paul Jurczyszyn "Slotcar12". Great member to work with.

Nice work! I dig the color combo, and the extra details make that engine bay look really nice.

I hadn't checked up on this in a while. WOW it is looking mean! Very cool work you're doing. -
Yes, there's a walk through door at the end of the paint/styrene/reference isle that goes to their "as is" area. If you take an immediate right after walking through that doorway you'll see a dutch door. If the track is open walk right in I imagine, if not there is a sign with track hours. I've never been there while it's open and I forget the hours but I always peek in, it looks fun!

I'm hoping to be there. I have a couple builds I may be able to finish up in time. If not, it's always fun to check out all the cars on display.

what off road vehicles would you like to build?

Grave Digger - Monster Jam time!
Toast replied to Toast's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Managed to get her finished in time for the show! I rigged up two battery powered LEDs to light up the headlights. Gotta have bright red lights on the Grave Digger! A quick shot of it before heading to the Monster Jam. I have to tell a little story cause I was really surprised when I got to meet Dennis Anderson. I missed the first line to get his autograph before he took a break. I wandered around for a while checking out all the other trucks but a second line began to form right away so I hopped into it. Two long lines of people waiting to meet him. This guy was signing hundreds of autographs and I figured when I got to him I'd be able to give him the truck, he'd sign it, I'd get a picture with him, and I'd be shuffled along. When I got to him I handed my model across the table and he looked at it quick and said, "Oh that's cool." and we had a picture taken quick. After the pic I handed him my pen but he didn't take it right away. He was checking out the truck, looking at it from all sides saying, "Wow that's neat, you did a really good job." I was totally not expecting him to take that much interest in it and was honestly star struck for a while because of his compliments. Such a cool experience. -

Grave Digger - Monster Jam time!

Had some fun with the wheels. Totally winged it on painting the rim but luck was with me and they turned out great! Since they were nice deep wheels I taped them down and filled them to the rim with water. Shot a few coats of clear purple over the aluminum and kept my fingers crossed. When I pulled that paint film away and wasn't sure what to think, It wasn't the clean edge I hoped for. But after a light pass with some very fine sandpaper the rims looked perfect! Just have to give them a wash and they'll be ready for the big chunks of rubber! Got a good coat of clear on the body too. Hoping to wrap this one up soon. If I get it together solid in time I want to bring it with this weekend. There's a nice space on the roof that would be cool to have Dennis Anderson's autograph. -
that's what I used for mine and love it! very quiet and moves plenty of air.

Our Auto Tech at work built a display to show off remote starter features and operation to clients and used an RC Mustang. It is a really cool display but I thought it would be better if we threw a little branding on it. Basically an excuse for me to start another painting project (which I probably didn't really need). I took the body apart and went to work turning it into a Geek Squad Mustang. The yellow had to go! First step was to sand it down, primer, and a couple coats of orange! I printed a sheet of Geek Squad decals. These are on clear decal film. Made a bunch of sizes in case I get the itch for a Geekmobile in another scale! I used another printout on regular paper to make paint masks. ready for some white. A little brush painting to bring out some details, glued the lights back in, and popped in the window. And of course a custom license plate! Here she is on display. the fog lights flash when activating some functions and the rear tires spin when the remote start is activated.

Getting ready for one last Monster Jam at the Metrodome! I started building this Revell snap kit a bit ago but the decals that come with the kit are, well, not decals. The peel-n-stick sheet just wasn't going to cut it. I tried to get a set from the AMT release but it seemed no one had them and the kits go for a little more than what I wanted to spend for a decal sheet. I pretty much gave up but mspeanut from this forum offered me his set. AMT's body must be a little bigger though so the decals had to be adjusted but I think it's turning out really good. I tried to keep it a quick and easy build but there were a few things that needed to be changed. First was the cockpit. The kit has the drivers seat set to the left side of the truck, like a regular vehicle. I moved it to the center and the steering wheel as well. I moved the tach to a position that seemed to make sense with the centered driver's position. I also added some gauges and a switch panel from a Nascar dash for some added details. I cut up the decals a bit and squeezed them in the space that was available. Not too bad. Huge thanks to mspeanut! looking at reference pics online was really fun. They have a bunch of these trucks traveling around to numerous shows at any given time so I just picked colors from each different one that I thought would make an interesting combination. The flames were quite a task but I managed to trim and modify them enough to get them to fit the different body. There were a few gaps that I'm taking care of with a bit of brush paint. First coat of green. The green on the decal is much darker than what's really on the truck so I used a brighter green to fill in the spaces and brighten up the flames as well. I'm getting excited to go to the show next month!

Love the two tone silver. These trucks were mean looking but the black and black gets boring. Good choice! -

To have some fun at the work bench I let a friend pick out a kit and take over most of the creative direction of the build. The original deal was I had no say in it, I just follow her direction. But there are a few techniques I want to try so I will use this build as a guinea pig. I rolled my eyes when she picked out the color but as it's coming together the Sublime Green is growing on me! For the most part I'm just going by the instruction's painting suggestions. Going with a mild street tuner look so I made a larger tail pipe. Starting to work on the interior. The color scheme of the interior in these cars is really neat and is going to be interesting to replicate!

that looks amazing! I always wondered what would be a good way to make a late model.
