  1. I really dig the big spot light, good function over form detail.
  2. Thank you She's now under glass! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=98427
  3. Brought together a couple Corvette kits and many random parts from the parts bin for this build. It's a replica of a friends Corvette, awesome inspiration for a project! Paint is Testors One Coat "Graphite Dust" with "Wet Look Clear" and a mixture of Rust-oleum sprays and Testors sprays and bottle paint. Bare Metal Foil. Studio 27 Carbon fiber decals. Lots of Microscale "Micro Sol". I also tried Walthers "Solvaset", it's very strong stuff and got the decals to conform to the toughest areas. To replicate the original car I used the engine, transmission, heads, and rocker covers from a 98 Camaro kit, Intake, Water pump/accessory assembly, and engine covers from a C6 Corvette kit. The pulleys and belts from the C6 kit were modified to re-position the AC compressor. A modern Battery, AC hoses, brake booster, and ECM were sourced from the parts bin. Intake was made from solder and rubber couplers are painted tape. Electric fan is from the C6 kit. Seats were filled with glazing putty and the pattern was carved with an exacto and a dental pick. the metal rings were from the jewelry isle at Hobby Lobby. Steering wheel holes are drilled out. The dash was filled in and a hole cut to fit the modern head unit from a Chrysler 300 kit (yup, the one with Lambo doors and a giant stereo). The only body modifications are shaved door handles and the side moldings were smoothed and covered with carbon fiber decals. Also did away with the front plate so the brackets were smoothed down to flow with the body. The rear Wheels/Tires stick out just a bit much but here you can see they're right up against the leaf spring so without totally redoing the rear frame and suspension or notching the spring, that's just the way they'll stay. Work in progress here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96450&page=1 Enjoy the pics and comments are welcomed.
  4. This is a really cool build! Excellent job on the paint and decals. Decals on silver always scare me but yours look great!
  5. Just finished! I'll get the display base done tomorrow and hopefully have some nice light outside to take some better pictures. Just in time to relax for the weekend!
  6. Great looking Camaro. The color is very nice and looks like you did a great job soothing it out.
  7. We're on the home stretch! Thanks again for the support on this one. This has been the most involved and technical build I've attempted and was ready to put it aside a few times. The engine covers particularly had me wondering if I was going to be able to hand this over as a completed kit. I'm not super excited about how they turned out but they look the part and finish off the engine compartment nicely. Here is the third and final attempt glued onto the engine. If I had the time I would start with a new set and use the third method I tried. It worked great but the covers had been painted and stripped two times prior so they weren't in the best condition. The intake was glued into place as well. Tonight I brought the body and chassis together. Very worried about it but the process went smoothly. The hood has a few dobs of epoxy on the hinges to keep it open. It will be in a display case and don't want him to have to pull open the case any time the hood fell down. Plus it was a lot of work to get the car set up, figured the engine is kind of the point of this build. It also displays the eagle painting on the under side of the hood. I took as good a picture as I could of the original, tweaked it in photoshop, then printed it out on decal paper. After the decal set I blended it in by dry brushing the body color around the edges. Here's how I left it tonight. Ready for her shiny new shoes tomorrow and a few small trim parts.
  8. Finishing that will be quite a victory! Looks like a very cool change of processes from cars. I look at all that rigging and say to myself, "nope!" You're much braver than I for tackling this project but keep up the good work and you'll have an amazing piece of art on your shelf when done!
  9. Great work on all the seats. Very interested in items like these, I'll be watching to see when they're available.
  10. Thanks. Ha ha I can't wait either! Had to pull myself away from the project bench to get some sleep before work. I was getting a bit frustrated with the bare metal foil so it was probably a good time to call it quits. So here's how she's sitting after the weekend. Finished the decals on the dash and attached the modern head unit. Foiled the steering wheel, glued it to the column, and attached them to the dash. Then mounted the dash assembly to the interior. The intake just needs a little touch up tomorrow and it will be resting in the engine bay. Rear badge mounted. Front Bumpers/grill assembly is mounted. And it's hard to see but the passenger side chrome molding is foiled. Touching up all the small chrome pieces with BMF is pretty tough. There's so many chrome parts and most of them are very small. It's coming along though and with some good momentum and time at the bench I think she'll be done by my Feb 1st deadline.
  11. One: The forced perspective of your pictures really does make it look real. Bravo Two: As Ray pointed out, awesome choice of music in the back seat. very fitting for this rig. And the German techno on top is a nice nod. Three: A pack of cigarettes! How?! Very nice work.
  12. Yup! your lights make it 100 times better. You're building up a very nice version of this pickup.
  13. Nice productive weekend so far. Got the polishing of the body done last night. As well as a few of the trim pieces attached. The breaks mounted to the front wheels so they're ready to attach as soon as the body is mounted to the chassis for the final time.
  14. Sounds like a solid plan, should turn out to be a nice example of this car. I agree with you that the street fighter styling can get get to be too much alot of the time.
  15. Bummer! Can't say I've never done that though so I feel ya. And from experience Tamiya is great at getting you the parts you order. You do have to order the whole tree a part comes on though so if you need a new bumper too you'll get some extra parts for the spare parts bin, but they're pricing is very reasonable. Good thing you've got a couple of other builds to keep busy with in the meantime.
  16. Sweet custom bug!
  17. Wow! The wheels and stance look great! I dig the color as well. Looking forward to more of this build.
  18. Thanks! Round one of polishing is completed. The dash also got a shot of semi-gloss to simulate the vinyl cover and seal the carbon fiber decals. The climate control decals are from a 98 Camaro so they're even GM. I have a screen from the Uptown Chrysler 300 kit that will go in the opening of the center column. And here are the carbon fiber side moldings.
  19. Thanks guys, getting excited to see this one complete. I test fit the chassis to the body after I got the seats and door panels secured, just to make sure the new shape of the seats still worked, and it looked pretty slick under the white unpainted body. Carbon fiber on the dash is done too. Might get home tonight in time to get some more work done.
  20. Nah! That sounds like a new custom built hobby room to me!
  21. I'm glad they had the balls to customize the F40. I love the car and understand it's history, but if I spent a million plus on a car I'd throw a couple hundred thousand more at it so it's not the same as everyone else's red F40. I think it's the equivalent of a woman showing up to a party in an elegant dress to find another woman there wearing the same dress. And I could probably get both their numbers if I pulled up in that car.
  22. Y'all are taking my ideas. I'd have to learn how to do a chopped top if the 34 Chevy wasn't done already.
  23. Uhm, you have my complete and undivided attention! Can't wait to see these come together.
  24. "Third time's a charm!" :-D
  25. Ha ha, they already have the 2017 out?! No wonder they can't get the 2011 onto the shelves! Looks like it'll be a fun project, I dig the blue.
