  1. Seats are done! All that's left is the dash and I can focus on the body, which is starting to get polished tonight after I get a few more carbon fiber decals applied to the dash.
  2. Nice indeed! Great job!
  3. Yup, that Blazer is calling my name!
  4. Cool! I just read through your original write up. Hope round two turns out like the original. If not, you know what they say! ;-)
  5. Like Scott said, just keep your eyes on eBay. I had a saved search that I kept checking in on for about a year and a 16th scale F40 popped up for 35 bux and free shipping. I figured nah, that'll never stay that low but I threw my max bid on it and let it ride. Picked it up for 35 bux! I've found that patience is the key to that site. If you're in a hurry to get something you will get sucked into them bidding wars and pay way too much. The funny thing is the last couple of years I've thrown a couple kits into the garage sales my family organizes, $5 for each kit, and in three years I've sold one. These are fairly new kits. Corvettes and Camaros, even a Viper. Figured kids would dig these.
  6. The seats are almost done! One last finishing touch on the carving. I found some small metal loops in the jewelry isle at Hobby Lobby and bent a couple of them until I had four that were the right shape. I then carved out a spot in each chair where the loops would rest. I filled the space with some putty and pressed the loops into their spot. Some careful scraping and prying with the dental pick and they all popped out! Cleaned up the seats and hit it with a few coats of white primer and they're ready for the first gray coat! After the seats are painted the metal loops will go back into them with a little epoxy.
  7. Definitely the gold base!
  8. Scott, I have the F40 as well and it looks like it will be an amazing kit! I'm excited to see your progress. I hunted down the Countach to be my practice run for the F40.
  9. Thanks! Did a test fit of the chassis to the body. Looks like it all went together the way it was planned. The hood shuts just fine even though it will be displayed up. Looking at my pics of the real car the kit hood latches were backwards. The hood stoppers were closer to the firewall while the holes the hood pegs rest in were towards the engine. Wasn't going to worry about this little detail but the kit latches protruded into the engine compartment just too much and would have been in the way of the Corvette beauty covers. So I gave them a little trim, drilled holes for the hood pegs, and mounted them "backwards". ;-) Here's the original pieces. The part that's raised is what the kit has sitting in the indents on the top of the firewall. I gave em a chop! And after the holes were drilled, glued them to the firewall. The engine compartment is almost finished! The two computer pieces cluttered up that corner of the engine bay so I only used one. The smaller unit on the fender had the red wires run to it but since I didn't use it I painted the cable on the one i did use red. Adds some color to bay! I started cutting the chrome pieces off the trees to make sure they fit on the body. Figure I'll prep the surfaces where they meet before polish in case I cause a scratch that can hopefully be polished out (I've been known to do that)
  10. I think it will only need a tiny bit of tweaking, if any. You did a great job of matching those two bodies up.
  11. Thanks! Got a little done on the F40. The Vette is taking most of my attention but I did find time to try my hand at photo etched parts tonight. I decided to start out pretty simple and try brake rotors. After cutting them off I gave them a few spins with my finger tip against some fine sand paper. Looks pretty convincing. The wheels are a very open five spoke design so these will be easily seen behind them!
  12. Ha ha! Word! Thanks for the props! (my best Ebonics) Got some parts ready to assemble tonight and figured, what the heck, with the steering wheel! This will be shot with the same light gray as the seats and dash, then the spokes will get Bare Metal Foil. Might have to ream them out after paint as they're pretty small holes.
  13. Thanks for the heads up! Stopped at HL on my way home from work today and grabbed their second to last one.
  14. Very cool! I've had my eye on this kit for a while. Been wanting to do a hot rod and I think it'd be a fun one to start with. Thanks for the pics.
  15. Amazing machine! I'm currently building one of these and have a few other versions on deck. Thank you for the reference!
  16. Getting the engine bay detailed and staring to piece together the interior.
  17. Thanks everyone. Del, I don't really know who built the car but it's a real '62. The undercarriage looks like a modern Corvette drive train fitted to a 62 frame. To do the seats I cut pieces of paper to fit the surface and made templates from them. I transferred that to tape and drew the pattern on the pieces of tape. I used an exacto knife to cut along the pattern and through to the seat. Then used a scribe to deepen and widen the lines. The glazing putty broke off at a few of the narrow shapes. Some super glue and reapplication of putty and they're shaping up pretty good. They will get a two tone grey scheme before being glued in.
  18. Seats are coming along, Little tweaking and they'll be in paint soon enough. The floor pan and chassis are secured to one another. Here are the wheels it will have. Closest Vette wheels I could find to the design on the original. They'll get the Corvette centers and a shot of clear to settle down the chrome.
  19. Yeah, I'm pretty excited to start on it, but pretty intimidated at the same time!
  20. They're Fujimi kits with a much higher parts count and usually opening doors and such. The Countach I have has engine plumbing/wiring, real springs for the coil overs, and the option for the headlights to be up. And yes, it will be displayed with the doors up!
  21. Thanks! Carving the details in the glazing putty isn't the funnest thing to spend a few hours doing, but they're in a convertible so those details need to be there. And speaking of un-fun things to do, carbon fiber decals! What a P I T A! But WOW they look awesome! Now all I have to do is paint the floor carpet and the floor pan can be mated tot he chassis for good!
  22. This one here. Thinking a metallic red with gold wheels.
  23. With the engine glued to the chassis and the coolant hoses glued in place I test fitted the floor pan one last time. Everything has room! You can see some of the carbon fiber decals that are started as well. The chassis and floor pan are going pretty smooth so far. The interior is starting to be the tricky process. I'm trying to get it as close to the real car as possible so deciding what to replicate, what can be made close with just paint, and what will be left as is are the dilemmas at the bench right now. I am really excited about how it's coming along though.
  24. I may hop on this soon. Finishing up some projects on the bench now. I have a 1/16 Countach that is an enthusiast kit that I'm eager to start.
  25. Very cool builds! So many and yet they all look like you spent a good deal of time on them.
